I disagree to a point. Making better swing decisions would likely result in better quality contact and thus...and increase in some numbers.

That, and cleaning up the hand movement.

I’m speaking to when he was acquired.

Interestingly his o zone rates have improved since coming to Toronto and contact rates have remained stable

I was checking his swing decisions on savant...it's the same thing we saw with multiple players last year, doing f*** all woth pitches over the heart of the plate and is terrible on the edges. 0 swing runs and -5 take runs on heart of the plate pitches.

But you're right in that his other major issue is Sweet Spot LA. From ml average in 2022 and 2023 to...bottom of the barrel in 2024

Must say, I'm shocked the Jays are still pulling in the crowds they are. 35k for a Tuesday game vs Baltimore is impressive considering they are out of playoff contention and basically fielding a AAA ball club.

Dumb question because I haven't been following s*** - who's our starting catcher next year? And who's our backup?

Kirk and somebody who isn’t on the roster yet

On that note, Vlad's is up to 58th percentile. Which is a huge increase from last year and even higher than it was in 2021. Interestingly his actual launch angle (6.9) is still a decent bit lower than both last year and and 2021.

I think it's a bit basic to continually pound the expected hitting numbers, but after Vlad's numbers started matching his expected ones, I think it feels more reasonable.

In which case it should really apply to Kirk who has to be one of the biggest underperformers in baseball this year. WOBA of .282 and expected to be .336. If he was at his expected or even underperforming it by like twenty points instead, he's worth at least 2-2.5 WAR already and we're talking about one of the better catchers in baseball.

He's been better after a terrible start, and he's continued to improve the last couple of weeks.

Jays picked up a reliever from San Diego - Blue Jays Acquire Tommy Nance From Padres

The Blue Jays announced that left-hander Génesis Cabrera has been placed on the paternity list with right-hander Tommy Nance selected to take his place on the active roster. The Blue Jays’ 40-man roster count was at 37 after their deadline dealings but now jumps to 38. Nance had been with the Padres on a minor league deal but the Jays acquired him for cash yesterday, per Keegan Matheson of MLB.com on X.

Though the trade deadline has passed, certain swaps are still allowed. MLBTR’s Steve Adams recently explored the different ways teams can still add to their rosters after the deadline and noted that trades are still allowed if the players involved have not been on a 40-man roster this year.

Nance, 33, signed a minor league deal with the Padres in December and had been with their Triple-A club all year until this trade. He has thrown 33 1/3 innings over his 26 appearances in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League with a 4.05 earned run average. He struck out 23.3% of batters faced, limited walks to a 5.3% clip and got batters to hit grounders at a 51% rate.

Ya that’s probably a fair assumption. Biggest question is obviously the body and how much it can handle.

One would hope that him knowing he's the defacto #1 catcher, he's going to put in some work in the offseason. Maybe it's that knowledge of being #1 that will be the light switch going on.

So we acquired Tommy Nance from the Padres for cash

He wasn't good enough for their bullpen anymore I guess

Jays traded Cam Eden to the Yankees for cash.

wondered when that would happen. he kept starting at Buffalo but not really doing anything. Time to start clearing out that roster

I kind of checked out waiting for Atkins to get fired and it almost feels like he won't be.

It was so obvious so early that they can't develop pitching (they are from cleveland!) and should have been gone when that was obvious.

He is so fake smart. Yes, we have all heard about team control. It was the cutting edge 15 years ago.

Not good enough in this division.

Why would he be fired during the season? Has there been a single GM fired yet? What is the benefit of firing him before the season ends?

Give a new guy a chance to come up with a free agent plan. New free agents would probably want to meet the GM and management first.

I would just give Click the job, let him handle the trade deadline (which i think was an important deadline) and then he can hire his guys during the summer.

Do these cash deals help with getting under the Tax threshold?

Yes. Any cash received by the Jays counts as payroll they didn't pay. Any cash they send out in deals counts as payroll they did pay.

I'm not sure what happened or is happening behind the scenes, but if Shapiro intended to give Click the job, then Click could have been running things at the deadline anyway with Atkins as more of a figurehead until the end of the season. Something similar probably happened during the JPR to AA transition in 2009, though I have no idea if it did or not.

Many wanted his ass fired after last season so it's not unreasonable for people to want him gone asap.

Hopefully, this is what happened.

Is there no sense of justice here? You have people like Bloody Chin making trouble and causing fights and he likely gets less than my 2 weeks for a harmless tranny joke. Then my last 2 weeks, was another harmless fellatio joke. I mean, Laila, who proudly called himself a FO fan boy all last year and last offseason, says he was “cautiously optimistic on the FO” going into the year. How is one with a little bit of charisma supposed to lay off that meatball right down the middle? If you hang one over the middle, it should be owned.

repeat offenders tend to get progressively longer punishments, in all facets of life.

This is such a bizarre comment.

This is such a bizarre comment.

It's impossible for anyone outside of the organization to know if Click is part of the disease instead of some type of supposed cure. If he had all of the answers for the Blue Jays pitching development woes I would surmise that these would already be implemented by this point given how long he's been with the club.

I actually think there are potentially enough higher ceiling arms in the minor league system at present to allow the team to eventually improve upon their pitching development. The key will be getting these guys healthy enough to continue their development and eventually have a shot to contribute to the major league team. The recent draft and trade deadline have Yesavage and Bloss as potential replacements in the short term to add to Macko, and the lower minors has players such as Barriera, Rojas, Maroudis etc. as potential longer term options if these guys can manage to get back to full health and remain on the field.

Atkins has been here nine years and years ago on here people were telling me its too soon to know if we could develop pitching, you have to wait for the lab and so on.

Click has been here a year and six months and he is not the boss, and he should have solved this? Ridiculous.

If Click is some sort of pitching development savant as you are suggesting why wouldn't his knowledge immediately be implemented by the organization? This literally makes no sense whatsoever.
