Sometimes I think Atkins is too pro-player to be a successful GM, and then he goes and does something like this lol.

Like him or not David Samson interesting on Blair and Barker today. Spoke on Jays:

 

- 2024 is over. Its now about the deadline and off season.

 

- Loves Vlad and his Dad but Vlad will want a 10 year deal, and to be paid as one of the Top 3 offensive players in the game. No way he over performs the deal = Bad investment. We have to pass on both Bo and Vlad. Move them out.

 

- Change the window, it doesn't have to be a rebuild. Not a tank situation. More of a re tool. The ownership has the $.

 

- Move pieces in and out and change the window dressing. Not a fire sale.

 

- We always got more value for pitchers at the deadline and bats in the off season. Lots of buyers in the off season for big bat potential.

 

- Owners fired his GM. He didn't really want to. Doesn't just look at record of the team. Thats more about changing the Mgr.

 

- Went into why so few firings of FO people mid season.

 

Anyway...interesting perspective FWIW.

 

-----My favorite part was the discussion between Blair and Barker. They were discussing how GM Ross Atkins performance is evaluated by how the team performs. Then Blair asks Barker (knowing the answer), do you believe every major (baseball) decision is made solely by Ross Atkins? Barker: Absolutely not...I've met Mark before (giggles).......have you met Mark (sheepishly)? Blair does not answer and quickly changes topics. So, that shows two 2 things, Mark rules with an iron fist, and he exerts a lot of control over baseball decisions. Therefore Rogers needs to cut the head off the snake.

You're trying to contend and Correa right now makes your lineup so much better as he's a huge upgrade offensively over what Bo has done so far.

 

Correa this season: .305/.374/.508 with 11 HR and 45 RBI and a 148 wRC+

 

Bo is only four years younger and even when he's going right offensively, his low BB% are a point against him in this league. Sure if Bo returns to his previous form, his ranking is higher but there is also the concern he turns into a Javier Baez offensively.

Correa definitely helps your team more and makes it much better. Age difference isn't as large as you think as well - Correa is 29, Bo is 26.

Correa gets on-base as well, whereas Bo's BB% hurts him in a league like this.
