Personally, I'm thinking the cuts are:

Pearson

Espino

Mayza (IL) or White if not.

White would essentially be released, as he'd be waiver pickup for somebody like Cleveland.

I doubt anyone gets DFA'ed, for depth reasons. Guys with options will go to Buffalo, Pearson, Espino, Cabrera. If Mayza goes on the IL, Cabrera stays. They can pitch in Buffalo until injuries.

Don't know if they'd want to go down to one lefty in the bullpen. Only do that in the case of injury. Pearson and Espino can be optioned, that's easy.

Mayza has shown something isn't right so he better be going on the IL to figure his crap out. We don't have the luxury of throwing away wins just to get him right. Our bullpen is too good for this.

You can practically treat Richards like a lefty with that nasty change.

Richards is quite useful. The fastball is becoming less relied upon in the major leagues. Makes me think this is part of White is meh.

Blue Jays provide updates on injuries, how Yariel Rodriguez is set to be deployed

Sportsnet Staff

April 12, 2024, 4:45 PM

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider provided some updates on the schedules of a few of the team’s pitchers going forward, including some more clarity on how they intend to deploy recent call-up Yariel Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, 27, is now on the taxi squad and the club plans to add him to the 26-man roster on Saturday in time for an outing against the Colorado Rockies.

Manager John Schneider said Rodriguez willl be activated in a length role this weekend, depending on what happens in Friday’s series opener.

Schneider added that the club wants Rodriguez to pitch close to a regular schedule, possibly piggybacking with a starter.

Bowden Francis is still the scheduled starter for Saturday’s outing, but some different scenarios could be in play. Sportsnet’s Arden Zwelling added that Francis was told to be ready to pitch, but not necessarily start. Rodriguez is an option for length in that outing.

Piggyback start, I'm down with that.

I like the idea of Francis for 2 innings, and Yariel for 4-6 after him depending on effectiveness.

Personally I'd start YRod and have him pitch 3 to 4 and then go to Francis. YRod wants to be a starter and has looked good in spring training and AAA, so get him actually starting and work from there.

Atkins, Schneider and Walker obviously haven't decided yet

Several decent options though

From what Dan just said on broadcast, seems like this is what’s happening.

Atkins hasn't told Schneider what to think yet.

It looks like Manoah came out throwing 95 today, but the velocity had dropped to 91 by the 3rd inning. Nice to see the early velocity, but I feel like there's something bigger wrong with him. I don't think it's a simple injury.

He also gave up 8 hits and 4 earned runs in 3.1 IP

Freeland v Berrios tomorrow

If the Jays lose that one, might as well not even watch the rest of the season

The velocity is a bit like Gausman in that he has so limited innings in spring training this year that he's probably only built up realistically for 40-50 pitches at max effort and then the fatigue sets in. He'll likely get optioned get another 3-4 weeks in AAA and be where he would have been without the spring training shut down.

Him getting velocity back is great, it means his stuff should trend back towards being average.

I just expect quality starts from Berrios now

I want more runs scored though

On the bright side, only 1 walk and 4 Ks.

But yeah the number of hits is concerning
