saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 Twitter is such a cesspool. 24 upvotes on this Ok one of our top young prospects isn't exactly accurate, but I fail to see why Wes Parsons a 31 year old with average stuff was kept over Zuleta. Yes Zuleta was wild, but it's not like we kept the stable solid vet who can control the zone. Parsons walked 8 and hit 3 in 10.2 innings this spring..lol.

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 What’s the synopsis for those of us without twitter who can’t see the thread. Varsho sucked on hard pitches inside in 2023 He didn't suck on them before 2023 He made a lot of hard but foul contact on them in 2023 There is no real conclusion but some aimless speculation that it was some combo or bad luck, bad bat path, or being too jittery/anxious with new team

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 You fail to see it? Skill issue. Study the sport more. Has there been a move the last 8 years where you haven't immediately proclaimed it as being great and the obviously correct decision? Have you actually disagreed with any move this front office has made? I'm not going to lose any sleep over this decision. It's highly likely Parsons or Zulueta have much service time. Parsons is 31 with bad command, average velocity and avg spin rates. Zulueta has above average fastball velocity and above average spin rates on his off speed offerings and he's 26. He also has bad command. I'd have rather seen Pop or Danner on the Roster until Swanson or Romano come back. The Wes Parsons experience is not going to be a fun one if one of those 2 don't get back soon.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 Would be nice if Nate Pearson can become a reliable high leverage arm for the Jays this season. See what he could do with Swanson and Romano on the IL.

So far so good through game 1. Time will tell.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 The issue with keeping Zulu on the 40 man would have been that he is unlikely to contribute to the 2024 team. It’s possible he develops and turns things around this season but if the Jays truly felt that he would then they probably would have protected him over a fringey guy like Pop. Would have been nice to trade Zulu for a non 40 man lottery ticket but I can’t imagine he had enough value around the league for that.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 Zulu was way further down the reliever depth chart than Parsons is on the starter depth chart. The Jays are down two very important relievers to start the season and Zulu still wasn't going to get a sniff of MLB action. It's too bad but this is what will.happen when you have this many good relievers knocking on the door and tons of depth. Remember, the Jays snagged Cabrera off waivers just last year.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 Jays had Zulu long enough to make a fairly accurate assessment of his MLB chances.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 Brendon Little 100% should have been the guy to go. Why they keep him over Zulu I don't know.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 Brendon Little 100% should have been the guy to go. Why they keep him over Zulu I don't know. Probably just came down to who they felt was more likely to competently eat some MLB innings this year. That's probably Little unless Zulueta drastically improves his command in the next few months.

See what he could do with Swanson and Romano on the IL. Even though the result was decent yesterday he looked more of the same to me. Not much command of the fastball or secondary pitches. If he can at least get some consistency in his stuff outing to outing you can live with the below average command, but last year one day he would be 98-99 and then the next time 95-96 and get shelled.

I've seen you lose it over 3 innings of our AB's just yesterday, how can you scout 20 pitches from NP yesterday and claim anything with conviction?

Yeah, I thought the same. His command isn't there and his fastball is very hittable. Bad combo. Maybe he might suddenly put it all together, but I'm not holding my breath.

During today's game watch how he has opened up to get to the inside pitch ie. perhaps see it better.

I'm saying yesterday he looked like he has his entire career up to this point, which is below average command. I'm not telling any tales out of school here...

Zulu looks completely useless as 2024 MLB depth Little is more interesting short term IMO. He added a cutter and it grades very well. He might be decent.

I dislike many things the FO does, I just don't whine about it endlessly Zulueta's pitches don't even grade out better than Zach Pop's. He's essentially useless as 2024 depth since he can't throw strikes. Parsons on the other hand might be able to fake it for some MLB innings. He held his own in AAA in 2023 with a SP workload. His pitches grade out better than people think, he has some good shape on his stuff.

I think what Derosa is trying to say that by tightening up his hands making him shorter to ball he will naturally go to centre and left more. Hopefully it happens.
