Man, that's awesome that Yariel might be something.

Nice to have depth.

Need Mitch White to come out strong and RT to work out the kinks in AAA.

Between those two and Francis, and maybe even Parsons the Jays would have really deep starting pitching IMO

It did hit the top of the fence but was ruled a HR

Either way, good start :)

Imagine that bat in our line-up? just the threat alone would help

Yariel will fight for starting time this year and could be pretty key as we start to lose other starters over time - like Kikuchi at the end this season

Also Joey Votto hit a home run to dead center off Zach Wheeler on the first spring training pitch he saw

You're late to the party... we've already penciled him in as our starting 1B with Vladdy moving to 3B now lol.

*If* things go well for Votto is there any reason he couldn't get a spot to open the season?

He has 3 more weeks to get ready and you can't be much more "vetrin" than he is... He and Turner always seemed like guys who could sleep all winter and just wake up day 1 of the regular season ready to hit.

Definitely a chance

I edited my post because he can't DH every day because of Turner of course

But there should be lots of PA's for Turner, Vladdy and Votto if they're all healthy and hitting. And if any get hurt you can shuffle them around.

At the same time I know haw bad Votto has been so you can't promise him anything other than a chance.

The question comes down to how we can make it work defensively without totally creating a black hole there. Turner or Vlad at 3B could create the worst defensive left side in baseball but we would desperately need that left handed bat to add to the top of the order.

Nevermind

Votto apparently hurt his ankle and got pulled from the game

Back to not expecting anything from him

I'm going to hate watching IKF up in big spots all year long

Like it might be the worst part of my life

Vlady will be taking reps at 3B, this should have been the plan all along

Spring Training should be for trying all sorts of stuff out. Now sure why this hasn't been tried yet. It's always good to have potential options.

He has such good arm strength

It sucks he coudn't stick at 3B

Ya... it would have opened another spot in the lineup to add a powerful bat.

I'm surprised we didn't give him a similar shot that we gave to Bo at SS. We pulled Vladdy for being fat and never let him try again there.

Vlad isn't even a good defender at 1B, in fact he's atrocious there too now. Lmao at trying him at 3B again.

I want to see him at DH where he belongs but that's a season away at least, with in all likelihood barely any DH reps available this on this year's team.

I told you all Springer looked washed, lol. He must have been playing with a nagging injury last year, combined with that flu bug he couldn't shake. If Springer and Varsho can keep this up and hit beyond their expectations, the offence will become scary again.

He ended the 22 season with an injury on collision with bo and then also had to have surgery to deal with the bone spurs he had been dealing with all year. You come to camp with the body not feeling completely right and you can fight it all year. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Springer had a .900 OPS season this year.

Is there any starter that doesn't really need much of a 3b? In short, where we could hide Vlad at 3b for a few innings?
Posted
If Turner plays 2 days a week at 3b, Votto plays dh/1b for those 2 and Turner gets a day or two off per week then there may be some good at bats to go around. And then maybe PH for some of the weaker bats like the backup catcher or whatever.

Gausman (and Kikuchi) certainly strikes out the most. All the starters have a GB rate in the low 40's. Problem is aggravated by our average-ranged shortstop.

Eric Pardinho is a super sleeper now I guess

Was popping 96 today with various pitches. Heard he hit 100 at the end of the season in Vancouver.

Can kind of ignore the ERA in the minors since between COVID and TJS he has barely pitched.

Could be someone they just jump straight to the MLB pen at any point

Unfortunately this is what I was thinking too.
