Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 Ricky T nowhere close. Good thing Wes Parsons turned into Charlie Morton overnight Don't forget that we also have Bailey Ober (Bowden Francis)

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Too bad about Jansen, but I'll trade him being out for the demolishing of the Yankees squad any day of the week. Also, as an extremely right-wing and hate-filled person, I am totally fine with slurs. Especially those against weaker and more vulnerable people than myself, which is most of the human population. But after having gone through 10 pages since I last checked this thread only to find out that 7 pages were garbage and 3 were about Jansen, I'm fine with what the mods are trying to do by keeping the board free of "triggering" words. I come here to check up on news about the Jays and quick analysis. If I want to dunk on sensitive losers I'll go to political Reddit subs. Mods need to do a better job of eliminating the trolls though. "One" goof posts something useless and then the "three" same goofs thank his posts. Not even trying to hide it?

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Laila put a strain on our close friendship one time by banning me for essentially saying NBA players liked rap music. I accepted it and moved on though. Best to do the same.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 so is a hamate and it notoriously saps raw power for like 12 months It's the pisiform bone which is next to the hamate. I have no idea what effect a break of this particular bone would have on power as it doesn't seem particularly common.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Everyone was lining up to sign him for 4/44 if you could get it. He’s not going to see anything near that in FA.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 I was in the "extend Jansen" camp, but can understand the FO's reluctance given his injury history. Even if some of it is just bad luck, missing that much time in your 20's and having to extend a catcher into his 30's with that type of injury history is a big risk. I figured there was/is a number that makes sense for Jansen and also minimizes risk on the Jays end, but clearly they could not agree to it, whatever it is. Hopefully Jansen comes back strong and has a good season even if it's his normal limited PA's.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 The guys that people have been worried about have looked great this Spring namely Vlad, Kirk and Springer... have a year boys! Also, *Year of the Bowden* has a nice ring to it. Jano will be back soon, baseball activities as early as next week, just worry about the power being sapped as Laika mentioned.

Yup, feeling good about spring training and looking forward to watching Bowden show everyone what’s up.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Good for us. Still hope they extend him if it costs like 4/30 or something Danny Jansen's head could literally fall off and his fanboys would still be suggesting contract extensions
deanmike Verified Member Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Jays are getting ripped by other agents and execs for the IKF deal
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 The IKF deal looked bad before we knew what the market would end up becoming, so hindsight is not going to be kind to it.
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Turner deal is worse. There's like a million ways he'll give us nothing. Injury, continued decline, babip luck, hr/fb luck and he's just nothing. IKFs deal is also insanely terrible within the context of the market but you can see how he might contribute. If he runs a little luck he could even be good.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Jays are getting ripped by other agents and execs for the IKF deal So not just the trolls I guess lol. it’s definitely a black mark on them. Laila will come to the rescue with the obvious fact that it’s not as consequential as say Avasail Garcia’s contract, which everyone knew was bad when signed. However, they certainly didn’t just shrug their shoulders giving him 2/15. They completely misread his value and the market.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 I don't know everyone is obsessed with this. The market cratered. Most teams didn't play it well. The Jays overpaid for a couple players. Neither contract is a huge obstacle or problem. It is what it is Boo hoo, you bunch of f***ing babies Whine about the IKF contract for the next two years, see if it makes you feel better
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 The teams scooping up these cheap vets after the cratered market are the Marlins, Pirates, A's, and Rays of the world. The teams who don't spend any money, and weren't competitive on players before before things fell off a cliff. Basically every team with an actual payroll bought players at prices that look high compared to what we're seeing right now.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 lmao "Oh noes!! The Jays have two ALBATROSS contracts on their books that will sewer the organization for YEARS to CoMe!!!" I can think of a lot worse things than $7.5 million for IKF this year and next and $13 million for Turner for this year only.

I can think of a lot worse things than $7.5 million for IKF this year and next and $13 million for Turner for this year only. This forum is pathetic sometimes. The Rays run a payroll less than half of Toronto's, and shockingly 6.5M for Phil Maton is not a daily source of histrionics. Nor are Braves fans melting down over Joe Jimenez getting 26M. I get that 15M for IKF is a bit much, but also, it just doesn't really matter.
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Ya but they all block Everyday Ernie Clement and Babe Schneider It actually does matter what the incumbents are paid like it or not
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Ya but they all block Everyday Ernie Clement and Babe Schneider It actually does matter what the incumbents are paid like it or not I don’t think that’s an actual problem. 2B is open if Schneider earns it. They can easily roster Clement. Playing time will be available. I’ll concede the point if Clement is waived and then plays well for whoever claims him.

IKF is the kind of guys those teams sign and they would pay him what all the other guys got paid. First and foremost, the Jays failed to come up with a better solution than IKF as the primary 3b. They jumped the gun with a bad contract that did prob lock them in after the Turner signing, where a contract like 3/75 to Chapman would never be offered, as they got themselves set for 2024.
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Just my opinion, but it seems like Espinal is being showcased for a trade, Babe Schneider 2-3 starts per week effectively as 4th outfielder sharing that job with Biggio and Clement as backup getting a couple of games a week sharing with IKF. That's assuming health for all concerned.

The Jays did make a late offer for Chapman, he didn't want to play here.

That's not actually true though. Teams like TB, LAD, ATL all spent IKF money or more on players expected to be worth about 1 win this season. I'm not really defending the choice to sign IKF. I think that's the valid criticism to make here. We'll see how well they evaluated him. I think the cost is immaterial though. They decided that they were comfortable with IKF getting 400+ PA at 3B. If he's good nobody will care that he cost 7.5M a year and if he's bad the the opportunity cost of going to him instead of another solution will be the real harm, not that they signed him for 15M instead of 5M or whatever. I think the complaints about the cost are mostly just silly. First it was whining that they couldn't afford Chapman because they signed IKF. Then it turned out that the FO isn't completely moronic, and knew at the time that Chapman didn't want to come back. Now people are complaining that Clement is blocked. We'll see how that plays out, but almost all whining that fans do in ST about players being blocked ends up being a complete non-issue once injuries and poor performance start to kick in.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Ok let's say we waited out the market and didn't sign IFK and instead signed Urshela for a few mil. Same with KK and others. Under that scenario, the people bitching would have: -Been losing their marbles all offseason about Atkins not doing anything -They would have been furious when we signed Urshela instead of Chapman -Overall their panties would have been more more bunched than they already are
