BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Your critique is going to get an F from me as well Sherminator. If it were up to me, Schneider would obviously make the team. Schneider is the quintessential darling of the casual. They all think he will be a "30 HR 100 RBI guy". They haven't heard of WAR or projections but they will forever cling to his historic debut and mustache in 2023. I'll take the under he produces his projection in '24. Still hope he is on the team. Love Votto but he could be a nice little story or a total blip here and gone. Its incredible how much media coverage and comments on X etc there are. Neither him or Vogelbach are great options. Guy hits a couple of spring home runs and some fans swooning.

I've also been a fan of his (like many others on here who follow our prospects too) since before he even got called up for the first time. Steamer600 ranks him 5th among Jays position players in projected fWAR with 2.7 (behind only Kirk, Bichette, Vlad and Varsho), with a projected wRC+ of 112 as well.

Some focus solely on his debut first week or so and think he's the best thing since organized religion, and the others focus on the 0-30 or whatever it was that he finished with and think he's a complete bust and isn't deserving of oxygen.
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 I gotta admit, in my heart, Schneider is competing for MVP. In my head, I'm thinking Buffalo. That being said, Robo Umps might make him something.

Really hope Arjun becomes a decent player because that would be huge for getting more of the Indian demographic interested in the sport

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 10, 2024 Posted March 10, 2024 Ah so Espinal's salary is guaranteed. As noted by Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area, the Giants would have the option to release Davis in the event that he clears waivers, while paying only a pro-rated portion of his contract as termination pay. The club would have this option due to the fact that salaries decided via arbitration such as Davis’s $6.9MM salary are not fully guaranteed under the current collective bargaining agreement. Had the Giants and Davis avoided arbitration, his salary would have been fully guaranteed in the event of a release Espinal and Toronto avoided arbitration. Not that it really matters anymore. Releasing him to save $2.5M was only a hypothetical thing after a Chapman signing

They were recruiting a lot of college baseball guys etc, obviously a similar skillset
Beau Verified Member Posted March 10, 2024 Posted March 10, 2024 That was a tough lineup to deal with today. Kooch challenged Holliday, and got burned a bit. But give the kid some credit, he looks like he's really settling in. Can probably win a Gold Glove at 2nd with SS capabilities. Could do something like 30/20 with a .280 avg this year with a deep versatile lineup. Love him. How about that Daulton Varsho!!! GG defense and can just swipe whenever he wants. He's simplifying his game, that's super exciting to watch on an everyday basis. Nice Mindset. Brian Serven has been clutch everytime I've seen him and i want to see him more. His game calling abilities seem to be good and he wants to do damage Collabello style. Teams going to be after him, must protect him. Danny hitting free agency next year. Votto, Biggio, and IKF will pick it up soon and will be grinding runs all the time. Springer looks dangerous. Vlad looked good but is now dealing with a bit of a knee thing...KK solid. Big day from Kirky. Love what Horowitz does at the dish. Ernie Clement!!!! I see u buddy!!! contact hitter that cranked one today. Genesis is lock down right now. Bassit is tricking a lot of guys and is nasty. Love Connor Cooke stock.

I wont put too much into the HR today as a negative on Kikuchi. Kikuchi went into the game with the specific goal of focusing on finishing his delivery with the fastball which had been identified as an issue from his side sessions. He walked a few early on as he was still having issues and kept at it until he figured it out. Had it been a game scenario you know he wouldn't have thrown 3 straight in the same spot. The fact that he threw it exactly where he wanted to rather than losing it up and in, which had been his problem with the pitch to a LHB, or up and away to a RHB, was good. I mean, sure , credit to Holliday for mashing a mashable pitch, its what he should do. But in a regular season scenario 0-2, he would've got the slider or curve on the next pitch. And his next PA he struck out Holliday on three pitches and made him look silly. That first PA is probably the ideal representation as to why fans shouldn't overreact to stuff in ST, especially pitchers (Manoah notwithstanding - though his issues are decidedly different from what Kikuchi's are). This early on they're still working on specific things on specific pitches and not caring about perfect sequencing or results.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Jesus Christ, it’s one AB. Nobody is trying to determine anything about JH for that AB.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Jesus Christ, it’s one AB. Nobody is trying to determine anything about JH for that AB. Read it again. I'm talking about negatively judging Kikuchi (or other pitchers) for giving up a HR in ST. And if you think that doesn't happen, you're not reading the board very much during spring GDTs. Anyways, I'm not calling anyone out individually, just providing context as to why Kikuchi was throwing almost nothing but fastballs early in the game despite the bad results. You really see things in statements that aren't there... a lot.

Not worried about the big 4 but it will be interesting to see who wins the 5th spot. I’m guessing Francis but he probably has an option left ?

Parsons has 1 option left, Francis has 1, Manoah has 2, Yariel has 1 contractually allowed option that had to be used this season if it's ever to be used.

That was a good summation of Kooch, that next AB Holliday couldn't pick up the slider at all, I forgot to mention this as I just now am watching the game, Green is getting his tits lit ATM...

It's strange he looked good, but was getting squared up, a lot. Springer/Kirky/Vlad/Bo/Varsho/Clement/Roden have all looked really good this spring, I'm kind of excited.

I'm not sure how Ernie Clement doesn't make this team. 0 Ks in 22 PA this spring. 4 Ks in 52 PA with the Jays last year. 16 Ks in 320 PA with buffalo last year.
