The only way I will be able to stomach Danny V is by optioning Espinal. I hate the idea of having all three of Vlad/Turner/Vogelbach all posing as statues

Yeah he's just so limited. He brings a different skillset than keeping around ANOTHER slap hitting infielder on the bench, but when you factor in Jansen and Kirk needing more ABs than just sharing the Catching duties 50/50 I think cutting Danny Burgers makes a lot of sense.

how much does ol' spankermeisterburger donate to get mods to lie on his behalf like this ?? i'm impressed !!

He’s actually a salaried employee of the forum. Him and Terminator are the only two people paid to post. They drive traffic, so it’s worth every penny even though Laika took a pretty big pay cut to make it happen.

I'm starting to wonder if Schneider starts off in AAA and Clement effectively platoons with LF. IKF could pick up some at bats in the outfield, Clement to 3b. Schneider hasn't looked that great in LF, maybe needs some better time there. Devon White could help him a bit.

That career 125 wRC+ v. RHP is pretty sexy though.

Alright alright my bad, let's get back to the bench talk.

I'm starting to wonder if we even want Vogelbach. If Turner plays the field some then we have more room for him but even then Jansen/Kirk are good enough bats to handle the backup DH/pinch hitter role that Vogelbach is trying to win. Schneider can get some DH ABs as well. And it seems like Vogelbach might be on borrowed time anyway with Horwitz and Barger knocking down the door.

If one of Vogelbach/Horwitz do make the team then we have to move an infielder. If it's optioning Espinal (or even better trading him) that would be fine. But DFA'ing Clement or optioning Schneider seem like dumb moves to me. I'd rather dump Vogelbach.

I have zero interest in Vogelbach and Escobar and I don't really get it.

Old f***ers that sucked last year.

I mean, I get it if they are in here as fallback plans in case players get hurt.

The awkward thing is that the FO needs to tell them they have a shot to make the team in order to sign them, even if it's not really true. So the Rogers mouthpieces also get fed that idea. It's hard to figure out what the FO actually intends.

All I know is that we see this every year and I don't think there is a pattern of demoting the younger players for the sake of depth. Last year, Nathan Lukes and Zach Pop broke camp with the team. The year prior Greg Bird and Mallex Smith did not make the team.

I dunno. Vogelbach doesn't even have a fun amount of game power, he just walks a lot and has 60 pop. Meh.

Vogelbach only makes sense if they plan to use Turner in the field a few times a week, which I doubt. A fat DH-only platoon bat on the bench who exists to pinch hit for IKF seems like a waste otherwise.

Ideally they sign Grossman and punt Espinal into the sun. Bench of Biggio/Schneider, Kirk/Jansen, Clement, and Grossman would be solid.

If we had 28 man rosters I say keep Vogelbach but with 26 and Turner as the starting DH and Vladdy healthy, I don't see the need.

What about Duval? Steamers projects him to be turrrible, but he's coming off a 116 wRC+ season and he's a .200+ ISO guy. He'd add some much needed pop if you could land him for <$5M and dump Espinal. We have Jimenez to replace Espinal anyway.

I don't understand Vogelbach or Turner on the roster tbh. Horwitz has the same projections as them but we all know someone will need the DH slot in like the first week.

Apparently, Vladito now lives in Dunedin with his familia year round, yes he has a house in the DR, but said it was better for his wife and kids in the off-season. This was from 30 teams in 15 days on MLBN.

But why, he has an option left?

Turner looks so f***ing old this spring. Just the shape of his... belly... and his face and s***. Geezer.

Danny Burgers signing never made sense. I can't see him sticking around unless the Jays make a trade.

I don't understand all the Turner hate. Give the guy a chance ffs.

Just not really any upside there, not very inspiring.

He probably hits .265 with 13 homers in 450 PA, gives the team 1 WAR for 13 million, but does a lot of media bits and has a decent RBI count. Then he retires.

If he could play a position it wouldn't be that bad but like what happens when Springer hits his knee on the wall in game 14 and has to DH

Right? Belt looked absolutely terrible and old last spring and even through April… then he turned it on

Stop being positive.

Everything is terrible this off season. Everything.

The Jays are the worst and Atkins is a beta devil.

Yeah he could have a nice year. He got off to a slow start after taking a ball to the face last year in ST and then he finished the season horribly after he got a bone bruise on his heel.

He slashed .300/.365/.522 from 4/11 (ball to face) to 8/27 (heel injury). <---- yes, I'm cherry picking

Seems to be seeing the ball ok this spring with 5 BBs to 2 Ks so far.

Add in that the Jays got over 2 WAR out of the corpse of Brandon Belt last year and Terminator is officially BUYING Justin Turner stock for this coming season.

the 1st start in LF he made an amazing diving catch toward the line, has he not looked good otherwise? outside his weak arm

I thought the same looking at the ST stats yesterday, there's a lot of backfield action too though that we hear nothing about, and stats don't count.

He's probably replacing the CF all the time

Might be the only real CF near the majors, after Varsho and KK. Assuming Springer is done as a CF.
