Heck yeah

Didn't give up s***

I could see Matt Svanson potentially being a late bullpen arm. No idea what his stuff is like, he's old for the level, but no ERs in his last 21 innings.

I took a look at one of his first appearances to open this season in Dunedin on Statcast. He was throwing a 93-94 mph sinker and a cutter. No idea if his stuff or velocity has changed since then.

Ya Bo's position for the future is clearly 2B.

I have a really hard time seeing the team move Bo off of short stop long term in order to replace him with Paul DeJong. DeJong has a really good chance to revert to the bench quality bat he's displayed for 3 of the last 4 seasons.

Matt Svanson, RHP, age 24 (DOB: 1/31/1999), grade: 30+

Svanson was also drafted last year in the 13th round as a senior from Lehigh University, signing for $50,000. His college stats were largely unremarkable, and actually made a couple strong starts after that on the Cape, which may be what bumped up his draft stock. He then debuted in Dunedin’s bullpen, posting a strong 2.30 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 15.2 innings.

Listed at 6’5” and 235 pounds, Svanson fits the classic power profile with a repertoire that backs it up. His fastball sat in the mid-90s with touching, touching up to 98, with a low-80s slider as the main secondary. He also had a very strong ground ball profile at over 60%. Ultimately, the ceiling is a middle inning reliever which limits how placement on a list, but he’s shown the stuff at least plays in the pro ranks and could move pretty quickly.

what are the chances that Heyman is correct that "Bichette is not expected out too long"?

How do you trade Matt Svanson!

Another flame thrower reliever gone. Fire Atkins! Frasso 2.0

I’ll believe it when Bo is back on the field

very low?

toronto was probably just telling certain other teams that so they did not appear desperate

Team defense is going to be insanely good when DeJong is in there over Bo.

According to OAA we will be replacing a 6th percentile SS with a 97th percentile one.

Could see Bo DHing a fair amount to ease him back in to the lineup.

Defense is going to be excellent

Need more offense from somewhere else. Realistically need an addition but also NEED NEED NEED more from within. I'm looking at Vladdy, Springer and Kirk.

Yeah this offense should be fine, who would have guessed Vladdy, Kirk and Springer would all be ass this year? Plus Varsho too, couldn't even pull off a league average bat FFS

Anyways, smart trade for sure. Insurance against Bo being out long term, and now more options for next year too.

Svanson had been really performing lately, but the jays system is suddenly stacked with pretty strong relief arms in the upper minors. Guys like Cooke, Danner, Burnette, Eisert, Fluharty, Brock and Jeunger, plus guys like Pop, Pearson, Francis and maybe even Zulueta will figure out his control issues.

So when Bo is back they probably move him or Dejong to 2B and Merrifield plays more in LF? That's the plan?

I hope so

Against Left-handers probably. Dejong is not the bat the Jays needed to add though lol.

More than anything the jays need their current bats to stop sucking. Vlad, Kirk, Springer and Varsho to be specific.

Kinda funny to see the Jays make three separate trades with the same team in less than a month.

They would've paid less had they done one deal. Always best to sell assets individually

I don't touch Merrifield from where he is now - right through to the end of the season

Once Bo is back which of these is the better option?

1) Bo - short, De Jong - 2nd, Merrifield LF

2) Bo - short, Merrifield - 2nd, Varsho - LF

I think I prefer option 1 (depending on opposing pitcher of course)

Yeah, depends on the handedness for the SP, more versatility is good once Bo gets back.

neither dejong or varsho are going to hit so I'd rather just leave Varsho in LF and dejong on the bench and Merrifield in 2B. I feel with Merrifield it's a comfort thing and I know he prefers 2B - so why mess with him. Having said that - if djong comes in and starts to hit a bit that could change things plus as you said depending on the mathcups

It's just a simple platoon situation. Varsho and KK still play the OF vs RHP, Whit and 2b. Vs lefties, Whit goes the left and DeJong plays second, Varsho sits more often, but will probably get the occasional look in CF if KK needs a day.
