jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 white even being on the team is hilarious Yeah on a team with Postseason aspirations, you can't keep running out these types of players. Giving innings to White, ABs to Tapia, high leverage situations to Brad Hand, running out Manoah every 5th day. This has been going on for the last 3 seasons. Its frustrating that the FO ignorance to this might cost the Jays a playoff spot by one or two games. It did in 2021.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Why do you troll now? I'm not trolling but some homers on here just the other day said this pen is really good and has been one of the best in baseball. It didn't look like that tonight. A lot of homers on here need to stop being apologists when it comes to this team and FO.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Cherry picking stats will do that Yeah just take out this game and the games Garcia blew up in, and damn those stats do change in a hurry and we have an elite pen!

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 5 straight games blowing leads Take those games away and that becomes a streak of not blowing any leads!

The pen, including the guy we just acquired in a trade for a nobody prospect, was pretty damn good. Swanson didn't look amazing but let's be honest here, he got BABIP'd.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Another game they should have won blown. Unreal
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Terrible loss. Schneider gassing our pen and not moving Whit to 2nd base is egregious. Schneider is infuriating. Same mistakes over and over.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 The fact that this team has major bullpen issues year after year after year is f***ing annoying. That’s what, 4 games blown in the past few days? And Romano almost blew the final Seattle game too. Major shift in the standings if they manage to win a couple of those. Frustrating team to say the least
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Schneider is infuriating. Same mistakes over and over. Definition of insanity

You do realize the very best bullpens in baseball will blow games over a 162 game season correct? Why are you looking at one game (or even the past 4-5 games) and drawing conclusions that the pen isn't good? If I've done this correctly, the bullpen is: 22nd in MLB in innings pitched (Schneider isn't taxing the bullpen compared to the rest of the league) 6th in MLB in xFIP 6th in MLB in WHIP 4th in MLB in K/9 4th in MLB in BB/9 2nd in MLB in K/BB 10th in MLB in wOBA And we're close to adding Chad Green, who's been one of the best RPers in baseball over the past 6 years. Baseball sucks sometimes - that's life. OK - bring on the claims of me being a homer please

Pen could be stellar for weeks at a time, but when a stretch like this happens, pen = bad. White can’t be DFA soon enough though. Bring on Green
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 26, 2023 Author Posted July 26, 2023 Thats disturbing

That’s what, 4 games blown in the past few days? And Romano almost blew the final Seattle game too. Major shift in the standings if they manage to win a couple of those. Frustrating team to say the least Yeah it's frustrating because year after year the bullpen never gets improved or better. They are lacking an elite setup guy in front of Romano and they have been for the last three years. The Jays have a solid core in place and it's a shame they're wasting their prime years of Bo, Vladdy, Gausman, Springer, Chapman, etc., because they won't address the bullpen properly. Will come to bite them in the Postseason. They missed the Postseason in 2021 by one game, and it cost them Game 2 in the WC series against Seattle. And this season like you said, is hurting them in the standings.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 When are they going to DFA Mitch White? Never.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Interesting after saying this a day or two ago... Lmao because I leave some constructive criticism of some things this team is lacking. Geez can't be critical of this team at all or everyone gets their pitch forks!

Baseball sucks sometimes - that's life. OK - bring on the claims of me being a homer please Yeah every bullpen blows leads, not denying that. I understand the bullpen hasn't been as bad as advertised but it's frustrating that they blow leads like this and I just don't trust this group to lock down a 2-1 or 3-2 game starting from the 6th inning on, especially against a good team in the Postseason. I hope Green can be the missing piece but again don't get all your hopes up and think he'll be the saviour. I hope he is, but let's see how he comes back from his injury. I still would try to go out there at the deadline to get insurance in case Green doesn't pan out.
Jays333 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 I just watched the end of the game. Swanson looks cooked from heavy over usage. Maybe he needs a phantom IL stint when Green comes back and we get a deadline acquisition. That play by Espy at 2nd was absolutely brutal. He needs to go at the trade deadline. Games on the line and he didn't even look into it. So casual. Also why in the world is Mitch White on this roster. Clear case of Atkins having too much pride to admit he f***ed that trade.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Lmao because I leave some constructive criticism of some things this team is lacking. Geez can't be critical of this team at all or everyone gets their pitch forks! Dude - you say you don't/won't spam GDT's and the very next day you rip off 3 negative posts in a row (twice) within the GDT...it's OK though - criticize all you want.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 I don’t recall anyone really blaming Swanson last night in totality. We all knew he was cooked. We were pissed at the roster construction that had a pitcher on the roster we could not use, (Atkins) and the damn taking out Whitt instead of Espinal. (JS). Also, we were complaining about it before the inevitable even happened. So, it was not like Monday morning QBing.

If you can point to anything, you can point to the core itself. Particularly Vlad, Kirk and Manoah. Those three have left about 6 wins on the table all by themselves. This has almost nothing to do with the bullpen.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 I’m surprised Vlad, Kirk and Alek left anything on the table tbh

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 I just watched the highlights. 1. Espy play was certainly questionable. Video didn't show a great view - if he comes up gunning on Smith - does he get him? 2. Why didn't KK slide into home with his f***ing feet? He would have been safe 3. I think KK catches that last ball more often than he doesn't. Tough one.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
