The Blue Jays checked in on Isiah Kiner-Falefa, but with DeJong acquired, presumably IKF no longer fits. Jays sought SS depth with star Bo Bichette out (Bichette is not expected out too long)

Oh man, great news.

Justin Verlander has been traded to the #Astros!

Wait, you are saying that a dude who can pull off the splits at first base isn't flexible enough to be an elite hitter? I've seen some really weird takes but that one takes the cake.

What the f*** are you talking about? Flexibility is much more than simply the ability to do the splits. In Vlad's case, it's much more of a problem in his upper body. In his breakout year, Vlad was much better at using the whole field for extra bases (A little bit like Bo, who has much less raw power than Vlad, but is one of the most explosive hitters in the league and you can see it in his ability to adapt to pitches deep into count). Vlad looks like he can only pull for power now. The oppo bombs and doubles feel like they are gone.

jerb's fast, lol.

He's our version of Bob Munden, fastest gunman in the west. You can't develop a reputation as one of the very best posters on this board, while offering up almost ZERO opinions if you're posting tweets while being late to the party.

For Drew Gilbert and Ryan Clifford. Seems like a lot to give up, unless the Mets are sending money as well.

2 of his last 3 home runs have been oppo shots.....there goes your theory.

Especially when they also could have just re-signed him for the $$$ which they're now going to give him anyway

There has to be money going to the Astros to help cover next year's salary. He's also taken a step back since signing that contract.

Are the Mets sending some money to the Astros? I mean really otherwise, it's kind of ridiculous to not sign a guy in the winter and then deal what may be your two best prospects for him months later.

Yes almost certainly

Astos aren't dumb. Wouldn't trade for a player that they had, who is now on a contract they wouldn't have given him voluntarily.

There must be a ton of Steven Cohen bucks coming back in the deal

and the vesting option for 2025 if he pitches >140 innings next year.

Big price, but my god - having Justin Verlander starting playoff games for your team must feel amazing. I'm glad to see Max and Verlander back on playoff teams, but wish both were in the NL!

New market strategy:

Outbid everyone in the off season for a free agent

Trade that free agent plus cash at the deadline for top prospects

Essentially buying prospects. And here I thought the Mets were dumn.

Isn't this what everyone does in every MLB game? Loll

Still no reports of cash going to Houston in the Verlander deal? Wouldn’t make much sense for them to balk at his price in free agency last offseason then move two good prospects for the full contract a few months later.

Basically 2 top 100 players. Lots of money incoming.
