Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 It's not that bad, man... Quero's a top 100 spect ranked 84th and Kyle Bush is a 45 FV... Headshot of Edgar Quero 2. Edgar Quero C Ht: 5'11" | Wt: 170 | B-T: S-R Age: 20 BA Grade/Risk: 50/High Track Record: Quero emerged as a player to watch after shining with Cuba’s national team at the U-15 World Cup in Panama in 2018. The switch-hitting catcher signed with the Angels three years later in February 2021 for $200,000, five weeks before his 18th birthday. Quero made his pro debut in the Arizona Complex League that summer and quickly emerged as one of the league’s most intriguing prospects. He took that to another level in his full-season debut at Low-A Inland Empire in 2022, batting .312/.435/.530 with 17 home runs and 75 RBIs to win the California League MVP award. Scouting Report: Quero is firmly a bat-first catcher with a strong, sturdy 5-foot-11 frame. He has a good feel for the barrel and consistently makes hard contact from both sides of the plate with a short, flat swing. He is a disciplined hitter who rarely expands the zone and draws a large number of walks. Quero shows more selectivity from the right side while being more aggressive from the left side, where he shows off more power. He has above-average bat speed and has started to tap into his above-average raw power as he has matured physically, helping him project to be an above-average hitter who reaches 20-plus home runs. Quero has good defensive tools behind the plate with solid lateral movement and the ability to block balls in the dirt, but his receiving and game-calling need a lot of development to get to average. He has an average, accurate arm and threw out 25% of basestealers in his full-season debut. The Future: Quero’s bat makes him promising, but he’ll need to refine his catching technique to become an everyday backstop in the major leagues. He’ll be just 20 years old on Opening Day and has time to make the necessary improvements. Scouting Grades: Hitting: 55. Power: 50. Speed: 40. Fielding: 45. Arm: 50 4. Ky Bush LHP Ht: 6'6" | Wt: 240 | B-T: L-L Age: 24 BA Grade/Risk: 45/Medium Track Record: An unsigned 40th-round pick by the Royals out of high school, Bush began his college career at Washington State but transferred out after a poor freshman season and turnover on the Cougars’ coaching staff. He spent the shortened 2020 season at Central Arizona JC and returned to Division I with Saint Mary’s as a junior in 2021. Bush saw his velocity spike and control improve with the Gaels to fly up draft boards and was selected by the Angels in the second round, No. 45 overall, in the 2021 draft. He signed for an over-slot $1,747,500 and rose quickly to Double-A for his full-season debut in 2022, where he anchored a dominant Rocket City rotation and was selected to represent the Angels at the Futures Game. Scouting Report: Bush is a big, hulking lefthander at 6-foot-6 and 240 pounds. His four-pitch mix is headlined by an above-average fastball that sits 93-94 mph and touches 96 with sinking action out of his high, three-quarters arm slot. His best secondary offering is a sharp, plus slider in the mid 80s with a late vertical break that gets swings and misses. Bush manipulates the speed and break of his slider and uses it best going down and away from lefthanded hitters and to the back foot of righthanded ones. Bush can generate swings and misses with his fringy, slow curveball and he has a feel for an average, fading changeup, but both remain inconsistent. He is a sneaky-good athlete given his large frame and throws strikes with average control out of repeatable delivery. The Future: Bush’s four-pitch mix and ability to throw strikes give him a chance to settle in as a quality back-of-the-rotation starter. He is in position to make his major league debut with the Angels in mid-to-late 2023. Scouting Grades: Fastball: 55. Curveball: 45. Slider: 60. Changeup: 50. Control: 50

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Might as well go for it Bahahahaha told yall
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 When I get pissed at Shatkins, we are always reminded that things could be a lot worse here lol. I feel so bad for Angels fans that Moreno backed out of selling the team. What an absolute moron. Team is almost certainly gonna be last place for several years now
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 I'm torn on what I want the Angels to accomplish. On one hand I'd like to see Ohtani and Trout in the playoffs and be successful; on the other I want this to blow up in the Angels' faces and watch them plummet in the standings.

Yea it would be great for baseball I just doubt they have enough to make a run, Gio barely moves the needle
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Yeah as a fan of the game, I would love to see for once an Angels team with Ohtani and Trout in the Postseason as long as it doesn't come at the expense of the Blue Jays. Its what baseball needs.

Its what baseball needs. I just think if Mike Trout comes back this Season he won't be the full Mike Trout. We have seen what hamate injuries have done to players power in the past. It usually takes over a year to regain it.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Brew Crew get Santana, Pirates get Jhonny Severino
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Kirk, Belt, Jano and Vlad drag that down.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Kirk, Belt, Jano and Vlad drag that down. Totally. I posted it for Yankee lols
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Biggio or Espinal for Jose Suarez. They're gonna give him away.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 37 year old 99 wRC+ 1B/DH For this guy... Severino is a power bat, with even more power than Johan Barrios from his 6-foot-2 frame with the bat speed and strength projection for more power coming. He's a switch-hitter who could have plus raw power from both sides of the plate, with more advanced hitting ability from the right side. He has shown a solid approach for his age, too, with the patience to draw walks and get himself into good counts. An average runner, Severino is an offensive-oriented infielder who might start off at shortstop but will likely move elsewhere, with a plus arm that would fit at third base.

Fangraphs doesnt even have him as a future 35+ yet, though he's super far off so that's not surprising ... saying "Currently an infielder, the 18-year-old Severino looks like a future right fielder. He’s a deep projection hitter with a plus arm." Straight salary dump for a lotto ticket.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Kirk, Belt, Jano and Vlad drag that down. Jano isn't slow.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Jano isn't slow. Not for a catcher, no. I'm just saying those guys drag it down.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Not for a catcher, no. I'm just saying those guys drag it down. He's slightly above league average for all positions. The guys on the Jays who are below average appear to be Kirk (by a large margin), Belt, Vladdy, Bo (that surprised me), and Espinal.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Not for a catcher, no. I'm just saying those guys drag it down. Footspeed breakdown of the Jays ... and ill throw in their Baserunning from savant's new baserunning metric
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Lots of runs lost on being thrown out... some of those are from the runners, others from Rivera being a moron...
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 I know, just adding to it. Not slamming it. Gotcha... likely a nothing burger of a trade. He's slightly above league average for all positions. The guys on the Jays who are below average appear to be Kirk (by a large margin), Belt, Vladdy, Bo (that surprised me), and Espinal. I recall now someone posting that about Bo in the offseason, surprised Jano's where he's at, noice... extend the man.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 No wonder Bo can't steal anymore. That decline in speed is shocking
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Kirk, Belt, Jano and Vlad drag that down. Kk, Merrifield, and Chapman drag it the other way. It all comes out in the wash.
