Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Holy... Espy has an OPS North of 1 over the last 60 days, love to see it. Go kid!
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Holy... Espy has an OPS North of 1 over the last 60 days, love to see it. Go kid! Good for him. I suspect at some point he has seriously considered if he still had it in him to be a ML ballplayer. That must be incredibly hard for players. The guy was a really solid player for like 750 PA's and makes an All-Star game (whether he deserved it or not) and then it all falls apart. It must take some serious grit, determination and emotional intelligence to battle through those struggles and truly believe you can still perform at the ML level. I do hope for Espi that he's figured something out and finds his way at the ML level.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 LOL you found out because you just picked him up in fantasy baseball this morning. Yeah, clicked on last 60 days and he stuck out like a sore thumb, problem with that? He's a former Blue Jay, no?
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Yeah, clicked on last 60 days and he stuck out like a sore thumb, problem with that? He's a former Blue Jay, no? He's carving out a nice season for himself.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Holy... Espy has an OPS North of 1 over the last 60 days, love to see it. Go kid! Good for him but he was extremely redundant on this roster.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 He's carving out a nice season for himself. What is really too bad is his defense is no longer a plus. He'd have a long career as a MI utility player who crushes LHP and plays great defense at 3rd/SS/2nd. He's a lot more reliant on his bat now that his defense has declined.

It looked like he bulked up at some point, probably trying to add some power at the plate but sacrificed a fair bit of his range and flexibility on the defensive side.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 AAAAAAAAAaaaaaand he hit me a HR... lol
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 Kikuchi shoved again for the Astros, 12 k over 7 innings vs The Royals. Griffin Conine splashed his first career HR into the bay at San Fran.

Laika Community Moderator Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 So the Yankees did fix Mayza His velo is up to 2023 levels. No walks and 62% GB rate with them so far.

They have him pitching like a replacement level reliever so I guess that's an improvement. His stuff metrics are worse and he's averaging 3.38 K/9 but the command is better so he's at least usable.

They obviously love him given the package they gave up.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 It makes me sad to see Danny Jansen's stats for the season: .212/.297/.354 wRC+ 86

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 I love it. It will help make him more affordable to resign this offseason! Yeah it's hard not to see him rebounding big time from this season offensively. I'm much more concerned about the defensive decline as his metrics range from bad (-2 Statcast FRV) to downright awful (-9 DRS). All this is happening in a season where he largely managed to finally stay healthy.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 I love it. It will help make him more affordable to resign this offseason! Yeah would welcome Jansen back in a heartbeat. Nice to have a catching tandem of Kirk/Jansen and I think another catcher is needed anyways. The organization and pitching staff knows him well which is a huge plus versus bringing in a new catcher.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Jansen gets a hard pass from me. Kirk is miles better and an expensive backup C is a luxury this team cannot afford when we have so many holes to fill this offseason.

Yeah - I'd agree with that, assuming he's going to get $8M+ this offseason.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 I'm sure most people wanting to bring him back realize this, they just like him as fans (I do too) and are being positive about the idea. Didn't mean to sound like a crank.
