Chapman homered for the third game in a row.

Saw him smoke a hit off Skenes fastball. Up to 1.4 WAR and wRC+ 117 $18M AAV starting to look better for SFG.

I hope he does well as he’s an easy guy to root for. I’m not disappointed they didn’t sign him though, too risky

Or maybe he’s an excellent example of leaving the org and immediately seeing results

Would have liked him on 3/54 deal he signed for with Giants.

$5M AAV a year more than Turner one year deal, and he can actually play 3B. Makes IKF more redundant. Projected higher offensively as well.

Lol yeah because it's not like Matt Chapman had 6.9 fWAR in his two seasons as a blue jay.

Had to leave this disaster of an org to finally see some success

Offensively* but I thought that was obvious

Matt Chapman career wRC+ 118

Matt Chapman Bluejay wRC+ 115

Matt Chapman current wRC+ 117

Thank goodness he escaped the clutches of the worst org in MLB

Chapman also posted a 101 wRC+ in his final season in Oakland. So I don't quite get it - in 2018 Oakland "coached" him to a 139 wRC+, but then two years later they "ruined" him to a 101 wRC+ season? Then the Jays "coached" him to a 118 wRC+ season, but then "ruined" him to a 110 wRC+ season?

Its almost as if he is simply an incredibly streaky hitter not only year over year, but also within the season itself. That couldn't be it, could it?

Well not quite immediate. He had 86 wRC+ in March/April

Chappy didn't want to sign here, EOS.

Please post a link from Chappy and or Boras saying he didn’t want to sign with the Jays.

It was reported in ST prior to a game as Zwelling and BNS were reporting on him, Toronto offered him over a 100M and came back offering him more than SF, he simply didn't want to play here. I'm not pulling these reports out of my ass, lol.

Read and saw all that plus Blair etc. Lot more to the story. Roger’s has a very high spin rate.

Yeah, of course there's more to it we aren't privy to, but he wanted to play in the Bay Area and rejoined with Melvin... no one saw FA cratering as it did, but Boras f***ed up bigtime, I feel the teams that got players late at cheap money simply got lucky...

Back in November, TSN’s Scott Mitchell reported that Chapman had at some point turned down an extension offer worth more than $100MM over four or five years. Mitchell added more detail in a post on X earlier today, saying the Blue Jays’ offer was actually a six-year pact worth $120MM.

The Blue Jays offered Matt Chapman a two-year contract before he signed with the Giants, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Given how long Chapman lingered on the market, it isn’t surprising that the Jays made a late bid to gauge his interest in a return to Toronto, even if Chapman’s “first choice” as per Heyman was reuniting with his old manager Bob Melvin in San Francisco. It can probably be assumed that the Blue Jays’ offer contained a player opt-out after the 2024 season, given how Chapman’s eventual three-year deal with the Giants has opt-outs after each of the first two years, plus both sides have a mutual option for the 2027 season. Re-installing Chapman at third base would’ve solidified the Jays’ infield situation, even if it would’ve made for a crowded mix of players fighting for regular work at second base and in backup roles. Had Chapman re-signed, Justin Turner would’ve been limited to first base and DH at-bats, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Davis Schneider, and Santiago Espinal all would’ve been vying to be the right-handed hitting side of a second base platoon with Cavan Biggio.

My gut tells me Chapman didn't want to play for John Schneider. He didn't respect him.

I was given a different version of events than has been reported. There is a lot of grey around this, but money & term always talks. Thats how we got Martin and Springer lol. Rogers is very clever how they use their guys off the record "on background" to sprinkle out the message they want to send. That spreads like wildfire and becomes "fact".

We moved early to place a good portion of the $50M AAV investment budget FO had, which has an impact on room to move.

The one fact everyone agrees on is that Boras over promised and under delivered taking his guys to market. Anyway....we move on. All good. Chappy is not the messiah.

I felt embarrassed for Schneider when Chapman publicly berated him in the dugout for not ibb Ohtani. You could tell the players and coaches felt it too. That day I knew Chapman would not come back to this team if Schneider was the skipper, aav/term notwithstanding.

I still can't believe that the Jays showed 0 interest in signing Stroman. He would have been a great addition to the rotation and it would have been a grand-slam PR move. Imagine the excitement around the city if Stroman was brought back?

Shapiro's an absolute moron.

Moreno - 91 wRC+

LGJ - 86 wRC+

Who finishes the season the best of these 2?

Man - I feel bad for DBack fans. Go to the WS and this year you're watching your $42M man suck balls, your catcher of the future (#3 hitter during the playoffs) swing a limp noodle, you're superstar player hit like Billy Hamilton (65 wRC+) and your new 3rd baseman hit like Goins (71 wRC+).

Aside from the making the world series/success in the playoffs part Jays fans can relate to these type of disappointing seasons from key players on the roster.

What else is new?

Gee, let's check his credentials. Cleveland? Perennial champions?

Traded our best outfielder at the time, Randall Grichuk, for Ramiel Crapia. Grichuk is still contributing while Crapia is gone.

Then he traded Teoscar for Swanson. LOL. Now he's a sparkplug in the Dodgers' clubhouse and contributing big time... 6 RBIs tonight.

Dumb and dumber (Shatkins) have to go. Maybe Boy Schneider would be okay if he wasn't Shatkins' puppet.

____

Last week at the SkyDome a guy in the front row of our section had a sign that read, "It's time to go, Ross".

Within minutes multiple security were all over him, threatening ejection and banning if he didn't take the sign down. So much for freedom of speech and expression.

Pathetic.

What pathetic is equating Freedom Of Speech with a sign at a baseball game
