Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 I would love having Bauer on this team. But this is where being the Canadian team backfires. Our management would be basically crucified for signing him. He will probably get work in Texas. His talent would be welcome, sure. But he’s the biggest douche in MLB by far and it isn’t even close. I would really prefer not having to root for him.

Was just Googling baseballs biggest douchebags and came across this on Frank Thomas FWIW: https://nypost.com/2022/10/27/frank-thomas-called-out-as-douchebag-by-ex-teammate-in-new-book/
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Wouldn't touch Bauer with a 10 ft pole. Even before this whole controversy of the alleged assault, the guy was never liked by his past teammates and has a few loose screws upstairs. The guy would be a locker room cancer, not something we need. This guy is a ticking time bomb. Thats not true. https://dodgersnation.com/dodgers-trevor-bauers-past-teammates-talk-about-his-personality/2021/02/07/
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 This is what I'm talking about right here. This isn't going to get a reaction out of anyone, unless a bored eye-roll is a reaction. This is just basic, pointless trolling. You do actually have the ability to discuss baseball intelligently, you just choose to do stuff like this and waste everyone's time. Did you forget about my Tapia posts? Those were very very popular.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 I imagine no team was in a hurry to trade for him as they’ll probably want a meeting like the LAD one. He’d be wise to at least concede he put himself in a very bad spot and he’s remorseful for that/won’t be doing that again
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Sexual assault aside, Bauer is a psycho douchebag headcase who would quickly poison the clubhouse vibe. Winning is nice but we also need to create a clubhouse where Vlad and Bo want to stay long term.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Well, the Jays clearly won't take advantage of adding a potential ace to their rotation for league minimum. Hopefully none of their direct competition take advantage of this rare opportunity either. Bauer has been a good pitcher, but I wouldn't give him the ace label. Career FIP of approx. 4. His last MLB pitch was June 2021, so it will be about 2 years between MLB appearances. He'll be 32 on Jan 17 and I don't want to see any birthday wishes on here. Hard to say how he would do after the layoff, and at an age when pitchers tend to decline. Depends on what kind of conditioning regimen he kept up.

Yeah, that's why I used the word "potential" Jim Either way, he's probably going to be incredible value for league minimum.

I suppose you could put "potential" for like half the pitchers in MLB None of us know how to evaluate his value. MLB teams are business first. Their objective is not to win the WS, but to make money. NY Mets excepted. So maybe he lands there.

He's a top 2 arm, anywhere. Nobody cares what he does for baseball through youtube, and his generosity in donations and kids. Funny that. Dude, had a problem with Gerrit Cole in University, who's the douche their? I haven't heard much from teammates otherwise? This is all an issue, because he is an idiot, and hooks up with randoms for S/M. I mean has he been Charged and Arrested for this heinous crime? NO. Has he payed his due in MLB? Yes. He's been convicted by social media and the like, absurd. Edited January 8, 2023 by Spanky99
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 I suppose you could put "potential" for like half the pitchers in MLB I suppose you could, but that would be f***ing idiotic. At least with Bauer, he's actually proven to be an ace pitcher in the past.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Jim's not looking at this logically. I hope. There's no definition of ace out there. I've never considered Bauer to be an ace. A #1 pitcher sure, but not on the ace level of guys like Verlander, Scherzer, Burnes, DeGrom, Cole.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 I used to like Bauer a lot. Yeah he was a heel who wasn’t for everyone but I liked his devotion to his craft and his use of advanced stats and progressive training techniques. After the sexual assault allegations I lost some respect for him. I don’t hate him for that but he’s no longer one of my favorite players. But now I hate him more than anyone in the league simply because of the endless and pointless debates that he causes. Hoping he signs somewhere soon, hopefully in Japan so we can quit talking about him.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 Kind of like your C and OF ish Those were highly relevant and productive discussions related directly to the team and I feel like I educated the board a lot in those threads.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 Going forward? Probably not, but who knows? I don’t think many people expected Corbin to be one of the worst pitchers in baseball. Ditto with Berrios
