Can't underestimate the psychological aspect for a pitcher struggling with command of going from a bases loaded walk to an inning ending strikeout. f*** that s***, f*** the Yankees, and f*** that umpire.

Yeah, Vlad draws that walk, and it's 1-0 Jays with the bases loaded, Biggio up (who has a great eye), and King struggling with his command. Could have been a completely different game. Or maybe it stays 1-0 and Romano blows it anyway. Who knows.

Yup. Suck it up and win tonight

I’m still stressing about making the playoffs, just win today against cole and we might be facing s***** Pitching rest of the way.

The third strike call on Vladdy with the bases loaded was an absolute kick in the balls. The complexion of the entire game is changed by that missed call.

Year in and year out the Yanks are tops in the AL with favoritism from missed calls. This year they have a whopping +16 runs from the umps while the Jays have - 6 runs. That's a 22 run difference over the course of the year, and to put that in perspective that number is equivalent to all the plus defence the Jays have received from KK (+12) and Varsho (+10) based on OAA.

A lot that is on JS. Umps know Boone will have a meltdown while the Jays will frown at them

Tonight's lineup. Looks like Babe Schneider lost his starting spot with his recent cold streak/regression.

Unfortunately, Davis Schneider had to keep a Barry Bonds on roids pace in order to stay in the lineup. Any regression was going to lead right back to the vetrins getting his playing time.

Like, do you really think Cavan Biggio and Whit Merrifield are going to take you to the promise land?

You probably need someone to get hot and hit 10 homers in 20 games to win the world series. Babe is the perfect candidate to do that.

LET HIM EAT.

Jays are trying to be the 2015 Royals with heavy BABIP emphasis and a strong bullpen. JS being Ned Yost isn't much of a stretch either.

But yeah it’s kind of irresponsible at this point not to play Babe. He’s one of the few HR threats in the entire roster, and even with the regression (which was bound to happen) he’s still putting up great numbers. Not sure what they expect from Whit specifically that’s going to help more than Davis can, aside from some singles that find holes.

There is this idea that Whit Merrifield can make contact so he is more competitive against good pitching. I think it's ********. He has a lot of really feeble plate appearances. He kind of reminds of Kevin Pillar at this point.

He hasn’t even looked BAD per say, I can remember that Boston game where he was smoking line drives to the outfield and ended up with 0 hits. He’s still having good/competitive at bats, but maybe the front office has noticed other teams exploiting a weakness in him lately.

Kinda makes me think they’re hiding him on the bench to keep his numbers up and hoping to trade him in the offseason.

Crazy that 4-9 will be replaced next season

Yeah definitely will be some changes to the lineup next season. Hopefully Atkins can swing a big trade and get lucky with some value FA signings like he did with Belt and KK.

Brandon Belt in the media asking for fan noise like "Winfield Wants Noise" in 1992, which exploded.

Trouble is 3 hits isn't going to get the fans making much noise. No player had to say this in 15/16 down the stretch or the playoffs. If anything it was "calm down and stop throwing beer cans".

Been going to games forever and seen some mediocre teams. This team is one of the most boring Jays teams to watch overall that I've seen unfortunately. Expectations and lack of consistent offence. Just my view.

Yeah I don't get that logic either. Just because you make contact doesn't mean it will be good contact. High contact low walk guys are just babip fluctuation value guys from week to week

I think most will agree this is the worst “good” Jays team we’ve ever seen. Could just be a byproduct of us being used to offense-first teams, when this team is clearly a pitching-first team.

Offensive teams are just more fun, plain and simple. See 2015 Jays, 2023 Rangers, etc.

I’d probably rather just have Varsho in there. Much more likely to pop a homer and he plays better D

100% this

I don't disagree. Varsho is a dead pull hitter and it's like the Jays want him going the other way all the time which he is terrible at. Usually ends up with soft flies and pop ups

I didn't say this team was mediocre. I said I've seen some mediocre teams since the 80's when I started going to Jays games, as in much worse than this one. Some of them were not as boring.

Ah gotcha. Yeah, this team is boring as hell to watch that's for sure.

They still gotta face King and Cole. Our lineup might not score a run off them the next 2 days.

Yup.

Its crazy how literally every hitter on the team seems to be trying to hit oppo more this year… hmmmm

And truthfully, it's not a bad skill to have. in certain situations with defenses lined up certain ways, and pitchers being able to hit their spots consistently, sure, a two strike approach that looks oppo isnt bad, but it simply cannot be the primary goal of a lineup the majority of the time, which certainly seems to be the approach being preached by the Jays hitting instruction team.

A pull heavy approach for nearly every hitter on the team just makes sense. Now that doesnt mean you go up looking to pull literally every pitch, you still have to be willing to take pitches and some strikes to get the one you want to let rip, and no, you wont be successful every time, but when you are successful, you do damage. creating runs wins games, and the most efficient way to create runs is pulling the ball with power.
