BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 I wonder if he is using a different bat or something Like a nerf bat maybe?
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 Article on Vlady's 2023 season from MLB.com https://www.mlb.com/news/explaining-vladimir-guerrero-jr-confusing-2023-season I think Mike Petriello reads the BJMB:cool: Interesting piece which in the end provides no definitive insights. The dagger in the heart was this particular part about his home/road splits: A .682 OPS is unacceptable for a bat-first player like Guerrero; it is essentially light-hitting Chicago outfielder Andrew Benintendi.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 Went to 4 games last week in 2 separate trips to TOR and we went 1-3 vs Cubs & PHI. I heard a new mantra that I need to follow as a Jays fan to keep perspective and ensure my sanity as SEA pulls up to 0.5 games back: "Happiness = Reality minus Expectations" So we are having an excellent season. All is hunky-dory. We are in a playoff spot, best pitching staff in baseball and the best is yet to come. Try to enjoy the ride.
bluejaysinternNo5 Verified Member Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 Vlad just reminds me too much of Kendrys Morales and I don’t like it. From 2015-2019 Morales had a wOBA of .333 but an xwOBA of .372 because he hit the ball hard. Here me out: Morales has a fraction of the talent of Vladdy so Morales’ 2009 (his age 26 season) where he hit 34 home runs for 3.7 WAR is equivalent to Vlad’s 2021 (age 22) season, adjusting for talent.

Kendrys was coming off that 4 WAR season in '09 with a 136 wRC+ and was hitting pretty well in 2010 when he wrecked his knee on home plate after a grand slam HR celebration. Who knows how good he might have been without that freak injury? He never really got back to the player he was except in an outlier 2015. Vlad has not had a major injury in his career to deal with fortunately. When you look at his career numbers its eerily similar to Vlad's career numbers. I hope Kendrys is not the ghost of Vlad's Christmas future.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 I went to see the Jays play in Cincy back in 2011. Saw Jo Jo Reyes, Brandon Morrow and Carlos Villanueva pitch haha. Jays took 2 of 3 and every game was pretty darn close.

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 Why wouldn't Bo be in the lineup for tonight? Why's he say Saturday? maybe just to give him one more day off
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 Going to be one of the three: 1. Schneider optioned 2. Espinal optioned 3. DeJong DFA'd I think they'll probably option Schneider. He never plays anyway (Biggio is just too damn good to bench according to the geniuses of BJMB). Espinal is the 2nd choice. DeJong the safest.

They really should NOT option Schneider. If Bo is healthy then Espinal and DeJong are completely redundant because both are just light bat, left side defenders. At least Schneids is a viable RHB platoon or pinch hit option. 100% I would be optioning Espinal because I'd want to keep DeJong in the fold in case Bo's knee blows up in a week.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 It will 100% be Schneider going down. I’ll be shocked if it’s anything other than that.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 It will 100% be Schneider going down. I’ll be shocked if it’s anything other than that. I agree, it's disappointing, but it makes sense. He hasn't been playing for a week now really, and it's not his fault. It should be DeJong tbh. Espinal isn't as good defensively, but, if Bo's back, Espinal can ride the pine mostly anyway. DeJong is pure trash.
keggy Verified Member Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 Espinal might end up staying because Chapman is dinged up at 3B. DeJong can probably handle 3B but he hasn't played a single MLB game there. Biggio is unplayable there other than emergencies. No idea about Schneider. Jackson might be getting optioned because Francis already been optioned 4 times this year.

Holding on to DeJong who just put up a -1.0 WAR in 2 weeks when you’re leading the WC by half a game is insanity, but vetrin presents and I guess whatever prospect they gave up for him is going to hold more weight.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 I would option Espinal as well. But he's not as bad as people on the board make him out to be. If you use arbitrary start points like everyone does with Biggio he's been mostly fine (he started of 2 for 33 and since April 17th he's been fine). He's only 150 ABs away from being a regular 2 WAR player since he started his career. But DeJong is a true SS and Bo might need to DH or have some days off. Schneider is good and should be playing more. So Espinal is the odd man out. But if all they do is sit Schneider like they've been doing the past week (and idk how his playing time situation gets any better with all these guys returning) then I'd option him.

The Jays are on there several times for one, but it actually has some good shows. Will discuss further on the TV show thread in the OT Forum.

Yes, they have good shows but I dislike their Jays broadcasting, last one Jays were at home and all they talked about was the other team and cheering for them. They dislike the Jays.
