So what's with all the Hagen Danner scuttlebutt I'm hearing? Has he been called up and who does he replace?

Speculation is Manoah and they end the 6-man rotation keeping Manoah as strictly depth. Or he could just replace Francis.

With off days coming it's not possible to continue the 6 man rotation. Two extra days rest is too much. Also Schneider is clearly struggling to manage with a 7 man bullpen. Has to be a Manoah option.

Do not despair. This Indians series sucked but it was a 5-2 road trip while dealing with numerous injuries.

The reinforcements are coming soon (Bo, KK, Romano, Richards and Green).

We have 3 off days in the next two weeks. 7 off days over the final 7 weeks of the season. Given that, it's time to dump the 6th starter. We've got a stacked bullpen 1-8 and the 8th bullpen guy is going to be more useful to us than the 6th starter.

Ryu has looked serviceable and with the Mariners nipping at our heels it's time to send Manoah to AAA. I'd much rather have that 8th reliever (Jay Jackson or Genesis who have both been very good) than Manoah and the same holds true for the 9th reliever (Francis has looked like a very good long reliever).

Rotation:

1. Gausman

2. Berrios

3. Bassit

4. Kikuchi (L)

5. Ryu (L)

Minors- Manoah

Bullpen:

CL-Romano

SU- Hicks

SU- Mayza (L)

MR- Garcia

MR- Green

MR- Richards

MR- Jackson

MR- Cabrera (L)

LR/Sept- Francis

Minors- Pearson

That's one hell of a pitching staff to close out this season. Combine it with elite defense and some hitting that will SURELY be better with RISP eventually and that team has got to be able to make it in as the 3rd WC.

And if it does that could set things up nicely with the Twins in the first round (they suck) and the Rangers (hello old friends) in the 2nd. There's still a legitimate path to the WS here.

All comes down to some core players on this team actually performing - Springer, Vlad, Varsho, and Kirk.

Pitching wise if healthy, the Jays are good down the stretch and in the Postseason. I agree it's better to go with a 5-man rotation now and send Manoah back down to the minors. Can't be wasting or throwing games on him anymore. Better rolling with Ryu in the rotation.

Bullpen wise, once Romano and Green come back, that bullpen definitely looks great on paper. I'm really liking Cabrera as a sleeper guy as well.

Would rather play the Twins in the WC matchup instead of the Astros or Rays. Also, would rather go through the Rangers in the ALDS like you said.

All the Jays need to do is to stay healthy, play good baseball down the stretch, and hope some of their core players figure it out in time for the Postseason. Have to play these games still, so hopefully they don't pull the foot off the gas! Keep rolling!

I'm not sure if you call it retirement when no teams offer you employment, but his last MLB at bat was in 2018. I think its just a nice gesture by the team to have him retire a Jay.

Cole Hamels just announced his retirement also. He threw 1 game in 2020, after a solid 2019 season. I just looked it up and I guess he was actually trying a comeback with the Padres this year.

There should be a Jose Bautista statue outside of the Rogers Centre

Commemorating all of his championships for the team?

It's a team game, even Barry Bonds in Roided up Playstation mode couldn't carry his team to a championship. Joey was a beast. He rose to the occasion in several key moments.

I would kill to have somebody like Joey Bats on our team right now. He was a master of his craft and took his job seriously. He was a killer. He demanded respect and was unapologetic to anybody who didn't like the cut of his jib.

I wish he would teach Vladdy how to hit a f***ing cookie.

I think Bautista would also make a great manager down the road.

This was because they were off 4 out of 12 days starting Thursday. He will be back probably at the latest 9/1 or 9/8 depending on how things go up here and for him...and with Ryu

No more dangling the carrot please. The guy just needs some consistency and needs to work on his mechanics with the pitch clock and rack up whiffs on all his pitches. No more promise of big league starts until 2024.

Still can’t believe they brought him back up instead of giving someone like Francis a chance to start some games. Hopefully he’s done for the rest of the season. If they need a SP just bring up RT and have him pitch 3 innings after an opener or something if he can’t be stretched out too long.

Ya man. It made no sense and seemed desperate

Bringing Manoah back for what was basically a month kind of worked out.

He gave us 6 starts where the team went 4-2. He averaged 4.8 innings per start and had a 4.91 ERA with a similar FIP. That definitely stinks but there are teams using worse starters than that. He ate some innings during the dog days of summer when we didn't have many off days.

Would Bowden Francis have done any better? Maybe. But it was also probably worth seeing if Manoah could get back to anywhere close to what he was prior. It's pretty clear he's not and with Ryu back it makes sense to send him back down.

See you next year pal (hopefully AT LEAST 20 pounds lighter).

My guess is they placated to him or the players on the big league team who wanted him back with them.

Either way, it wasn't beneficial to him. He did have that 1 good start vs Boston, so maybe that's not entirely true, that good start could have helped his confidence moving forward.

That said, he needs extensive work on his body, his cardio, his spin rate and velo. His velo and spin has dipped every season since his debut, and he's young, so that shouldn't happen, unless his offseason work is causing issues.

Yeah

When they called him back up there was a lot of criticism of the FO. How could they think he is fixed already!?

But it turns out they just kind of needed a starter and he was the s***** AAAA quality pitcher they could go to.

We can only hope. There's so many underperforming fat guys this season (Manoah, Vlad, Kirk, Barriera, etc) that it should be a wake up call for the FO to actually acknowledge the herd of elephants in the room, pun intended.

These are professionals, blessed with the talent to get paid tons of money to play a fun sport. You have enough money to have personal chefs, dieticians and personal trainers to get in shape and stay in shape. And even if they aren't using their own money for this, the team needs to highly encourage the use of the performance complex which provides all of that.

Insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results.

I'm sure the team tries to push good habits on them but they are employees not pets.

Some players are just lost causes and struggle with their weight just like normal people do (they are still people after all). Others struggle with alcohol and drugs too.

I've read several stories about the Giants and Red Sox and how they tried to work with Pablo Sandoval. They would put two handlers in his hotel room each night and he would still find a way to sneak out and go eat a large pizza all to himself.

It helped stabilize the rotation until Ryu came back and he was probably a bit better than anyone in Buffalo would have been

I wouldn't say it was necessarily great for Manoah himself
