Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Casuals only care about hitting the ball over the fence. If ball don't go far they cry The best hitters tend to hit a lot of homeruns…
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 What changed from last season this year?? He managed to put up a solid year with the same holes in his swing no? I'm sure it's our hitting coach telling him that he should swing at more high pitches. /s Sometimes it takes the league a bit longer to adjust, find and expose a hitters holes.

There’s evidence (verbal) that the coaches tried to get him to go oppo more to start the year. Idk why you have to be so obtuse about this s***. The reality is we don’t know, so either answer is plausible.

TorontonianJD Verified Member Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Why are you so scared over a bat? They're just flying hamsters. Maybe because they can kill you? https://beta.ctvnews.ca/local/vancouver-island/2019/7/16/1_4510597.html
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Contagion? That was bird flu I believe I do not think there was a bat in that movie but ... was there? Yes the virus started from a bat and pig
TorontonianJD Verified Member Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 I am at place right now where I hope the Jays trade Vladdy in the offseason. There may be an organization out there that still believe he is special and the Jays may win big in the trade. I agree. He needs to go. I also can’t stand the ice baths and think most players do too.

I was advocating trading during the past off-season. Unfortunately, I think it is too late to trade him now unless it is meant to be a pure salary dump. There is no way you get anything useful for him today.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Trade him for Mountcastle. That may actually work

Yeah, Vlad's next two seasons are going to be expensive, and he's basically been a replacement level player this season. Hell, coming into today's game, if you combined his WAR from 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023, it would still be less than Bichette's 2023 WAR alone. I know Vlad has a big name, and it wouldn't shock me if he has a 2021 type of season at least once in the next two years (likely 2025 when he has financial incentive to shape up), but you have to weigh that against the cost of his next two seasons and what they could potentially get for him combined with the fact that there's a chance that this is just what he is. With that said, I don't think there's a chance in hell the Jays, specifically Atkins, will ever trade him.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Man, Jays were taken behind the woodshed this series. :/

Yeah, something is definitely not right. They tried changing managers, same s***. It's narrowing down to one thing, incompetent GM. If Shapiro has any brains inside that massive f***ing forehead of his, he'll cut ties with his buddy and think of his own career. I also feel the Shatkins relationship is a conflict of interest and we the fans don't deserve this.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Vlad wont be traded because teams will only want him for .75 on the dollar, thinking they can make some mechanical changes and those statcast numbers will start translating. The front office isnt making that trade. Jays just have to hope he can figure out here.

He will be worth .50 cents on the dollar if you keep holding onto him hoping to rebound back into 2021 form which no other Season he has even resembled that player.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Jays missed a great chance cashing in on Chapman at the deadline. Dead weight now. Just a walking K like Kirk, Springer, Varsho, Dejong

Just a walking K like Kirk, Springer, Varsho, Dejong Can't sell when they were 2 up on a playoff spot obviously. However if this year is destined to end with a wimper I kind of wish the Jays were more like where the Angels are and sold into a seller market. It would suck if this mediocre team happened to be at a deceptive 'high' point August first but crashes a week into August. I could easilly see them getting swept by the Red Sox and then the Red Sox schedule is a joke, so 1 week from now their playoff odds are like 15%.

Definitely a tough decision, but it just doesn't look like that have anything going. The hitting is at a low despite the singles boosting their numbers in general. They can't score runs or hit HRs in the updated stadium, they can't hit with runners on base, their pitching is holding them on, but just barely. With about 4 options in the minors that could play in the infield it would have been smart to shop Chapman to the real contenders. If the Jays fall out that would be a huge missed opportunity

I feel like we’re witnessing first hand how a team full of “nice guys” actually plays out at the major league level. Atkins made such a big deal about character and make up and they’ve assembled a team full of dudes who are great guys, obviously! But they would never in a million years bring in a guy like Donaldson or Bautista who have that competitive drive and fire because they’re “*******s”. It’s made for a very frustrating product on the field. Imagine an ancient army full of goof ball Vlad Jrs and Alejandro Kirks along with the unseasoned chicken breast that is Matt Chapman, versus a legion of Viking Donaldsons and tactical, fiery Bautistas. I think I know who I would place my money on.

Sorrow Verified Member Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Davis Schneider getting his contract selected to the Jays tomorrow according to mlbtraderumours. I'm hoping for an Espinal option. I'll assume Lukes is getting DFAd. It's a bit of a shame guys like Lukes and Clement haven't had any opportunity when they're called up. Lukes has a 10.9 walk rate and 7.6 k rate with a 139 wRC+ in AAA and clement 141 wRC+ 10.2bb and 3.5k-rate. Yet we have zero issues running Espinal and Biggio out for 350 below replacement at bats.
