Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 Jays got a 15 game strech here against pretty subpar competition anything less than 10-5 during this stretch it’s going to be difficult to see then making the playoffs. And this really needs to be one of those runs where they win 8 or 9 games in a row.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 Vlad Jr. is going to nuke the Oakland A's this weekend. I can feel it. Bump
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 Bassitt talking about pitch-com tonight? Didn’t he throw 20 something scoreless innings in May the same he started tonight? Hard to fathom this conversation even exists half way through the season. He has been ok overall, and at times great, but it’s going to feel like a long 3/63.

Yeah I'm not feeling great about Bassitt's age 35 and 36 seasons at 21 mil a pop right now.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 Yeah I'm not feeling great about Bassitt's age 35 and 36 seasons at 21 mil a pop right now. As much as I like Bassitt, I never felt good about him getting paid that much given his age. Feels like an overpay for me by the Jays, but lets just hope he can be a 2 WAR pitcher every season.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 I will be in attendance for the first time in a few years. Hoping to see some Vladdy bombs. Hope you're buying the beers as well. See you this weekend!
John Balkabella Verified Member Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 (edited) Be honest. You think this team is going 40-30 or something like that with that offence and that pitching staff? Yes, of course it stems back to Shatkins not being able to draft/develop talent. It has been f***ing brutal. Times up. Edited June 24, 2023 by John Balkabella

Yes, of course it stems back to Shatkins not being able to draft/develop talent. It has been f***ing brutal. Times up. I mean...they are 41-36 and they've been playing like poo....going on a 40-30 run isn't inconceivable lol
John Balkabella Verified Member Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 Certainly conceivable. Likely, I don’t think so. Wearing out the starters, and it is telling, with the lack of rest. A good team would have a fifth starter tonight.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 Using the off days to push starters up is not something this FO has done often. I don’t know if it’s desperation or not trusting internal depth options. Maybe both. Maybe Francis sucks or is a RP long term but having him start a few games in place of Manoah should have been done. If you wonder why this FO can’t even luck their way into developing a SP, stuff like this is why.
Jays333 Verified Member Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 I think selling is definitely a way over reaction. We are within reach of a playoff spot so its not happening. Albeit its a playoff spot that has only existed for a couple years thats saving our ass, its still a playoff spot. However I dont think its an over reaction to say this team is trending backwards. When were suppose to be taking steps forward and getting closer to the goal its seems as if the team is trending in the opposite direction. 2 of our best players have had massive underperformances. We are clearly missing thump in the lineup and the improvement in defense doesn't seem to be making up the wins. In previous years when we had mediocre first halves the underlining numbers always showed we were better and bound to break out. Even those are trending in the wrong direction this season.

The underlying numbers do not suggest the team is going backwards. If you’re referring to the run differential, the lack of hitting with RISP is largely to blame there. When that regresses back towards the mean, the run differential getting better will follow. The same thing will happen to Texas who are running an otherworldly number when hitting with RISP. That will regress and their differential will not keep going as it is. Still a really good team though. Weirdly though, Texas record in 1 run games sucks. The Jays record in 1 run games is much better. Just weird things that numbers that may or may not mean anything. There’s not much the Jays can do right now with the Manoah situation other than manage it at the big league level as best they can until either he’s ready to come back, or figure out a trade to bring someone in - though the likelihood of that at this point of the season is extremely unlikely. Right now I’m sure Atkins is sacrificing any barnyard fowl or ruminant he can get his hands on hoping Manoah figures it out and quick. Even Ryu won’t be ready until August at the earliest.

Yah I get that, but when does it normalize? We are a couple games away from the half way point here. Is it completely out of the realm of possibility that these abnormal RISP numbers continue for the entirety of the season, or at least long enough for it to sink the team. I just feel like were running out of time for these corrections within the numbers to happen lol.

That's our ultimate Achilles heel and we're a long way from being good enough there.

It’s not really something that can be predicted, it might correct too late in the season to matter, or it might turn around tomorrow.

Exactly, RISP isn't a skillset, and anyone that thinks so can f*** right off, or never played the game.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 We just took possession of the WC3 spot. The playoffs will be easy to make.
