wilko Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 I think the chances of Vlad dropping down the lineup is about the same chances as Springer earlier this season when he was awful
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 lmao... I feel I've eaten a few gummies while watching that.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 Mitch White last season with the Jays: 43 innings pitched. 37 runs allowed. 7.74era, 49 era+ He was not ok. If you really want a punch in the gut, take a look at how Nick Frasso is doing this year. Josh Towers 2006 numbers right there.

Ray Verified Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 So Bo Bichette is at 0 outs-above-average at SS thus far this season, which essentially means he's been average defensively. You can tell he's been better simply by the eye test too.

He looks like an average defender now and scores as an average defender on defensive metrics. Which is fine with the 130-150 wRC+ bat as shortstop.

In season eating, nutrition and exercise is vastly different than off season
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 Stuff like that is off-season work. In season eating, nutrition and exercise is vastly different than off season True but not as much anymore. Its a 6 month grind. A lot of baseball players today develop strict in season nutrition and physical exercise routines. They lay off a lot of heavy weight work but they do do stamina enhancing activity. Much like a lot of NHL players ride bikes between periods and after games. They have a grueling travel schedule but at least in baseball they have 81 home games and when they hit another city they are there 3/4 days which allows a bit more routine to exist over a lot of sports.

I still really think more and more players could see big improvements if they're willing to do the work in the off-season and I'm baffled more don't.

He was another one of those stat-scouting darlings from the Dodgers org.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 I'm aware, but also he was ok with the Dodgers. And he's been terrible since. So the hope was maybe he'd recapture whatever form he'd had while with the Dodgers. It took Stripling time to adjust in Toronto too. Changing organizations can be very difficult on some people and White's obviously been dealing with injuries. Burying him like he should be DFA'd is pretty short sighted (coming off a 1.3 WAR season). Par for the course on this board though.

Speaking of ex Blue Jays, I saw Dalton Pompey at the game last night walking through the flight deck area. Seemed to be there just as a fan with his GF. RIP Most guys do not turn it around

One guys I coach with a U8 AA is a cop in Toronto and he said Pompey just got hired on as a police officer (maybe in Mississauga or Hamilton? I forget). Anyway, they have a police baseball team that's going to the US to play in a tournament and Pompey is going to go play for them.

That's kinda crazy, from MLB baseball to police officer, IN an area where people might recognize you too.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 That's kind of cool tbh. Good for Pompey. A lot of guys who don't make it in baseball and aren't able to bank retirement money just end up as... used car salesmen, or baseball coaches in some fringe league or training facility where they probably make like $30k a year. It's kind of mature to just let the game go. Some guys can't. It's sad as f*** that he flopped though. He was a rock solid, multi-tool prospect. Made contact, played D, hit for some power, could steal bases. He excelled in the minors with great age vs. level figures. Projection systems probably loved him.

Doing what they do between periods and games is not for fitness, it's getting rid of lactic acid buildup in the muscles (mostly the legs) from constantly being at 75-100% effort in the game with minimal rest. Ball players wouldnt have that problem.

I forgot how highly touted he became that one year. Top 50 prospect across the board in 2015. https://www.thestar.com/sports/bluejays/2022/08/20/its-the-fall-for-dalton-pompey-the-former-blue-jays-outfielder-who-is-leaving-baseball-on-his-terms.html Seems like he's got a solid perspective on things though.

In season eating, nutrition and exercise is vastly different than off season Whether in season or off-season, Manoah has clearly been eating in a significant calorie surplus. If you are trying to put on lean mass (which he probably doesn't need to do), you do that in a very modest calorie surplus. Otherwise, he should be eating all year at maintenance calories relative to his activity level. He's fat because he's eating too much.
