I just don’t see which team they’d beat for a WC spot…

Jays/Yanks will likely take 1 WC spot

Seattle probably gets one

Then you have Twins/Rays/Cleveland/Chisox which are all clearly better than the Angels

I don’t see it

Fangraphs projections predict:

Yankees

Astros

Blue Jays

Rays

Mariners

Angels

Guardians

Rangers

PECOTA shows the Angels ahead of Mariners but behind Twins

A clock has no business being in a baseball game... NONE. They are ruining the game for the sake of shortening the time it takes to play it. Rush rush rush.... how f***ing stupid is that. And two throws only to first base, another stupid rule.

I don't see the Angels as tangibly worse than any of Seattle/TB/CLE/CWS. If they stay reasonably healthy. They're really solid 1-9 right now (with the exception of Walsh, probably), and their bench of Urshela/Stassi/Fletcher/Phillips is actually decent.

Ohtani/Anderson/Sandoval/Detmers is a legit top-4.

Things get dicey if Trout or Ohtani miss significant time or they get no production from spots in the rotation after Ohtani.

We’ll see I guess. It would be nice for them to make it

I'd be perfectly happy to see them make a WC spot over Seattle and Texas. :)

I really like their offseason. They added Renfroe, Drury, Urshela and Phillips to the lineup/bench along with O'Hoppe at last year's deadline. Add in Rendon who gave them nothing last year and that's going to be a colossal improvement with basically 6 guys being added to last year's lineup/bench. In most of those cases those 6 will be replacing negative WAR players.

On the pitching side they added Tyler Anderson (coming off a 4 WAR season) and a couple of mid bullpen pieces in Estevez and Matt Moore. Altogether, that's a TON of additions in one offseason.

As for the rotation depth don't forget Jose Suarez who is a legit backend rotation piece too so 1-5 they are pretty solid. They've also got some decent depth with Tucker Davidson (probably the last guy in their 6 man rotation) Silseth, Chris Rodriguez, Griffin Canning, and others in AAA and AA who could give them something. That won't really "wow" anyone but if you compare it to the depth around the league it's probably better than most.

They are definitely WC contenders.

Angels did a good job filling the cracks this offseason and raising the floor of their team. They went from stars and scrubs to starts and major league regulars throughout the lineup.

If you're a kid with a short attention span it fits the bill for you. A baseball game with thinking and strategy is not for you so you just want rush rush action. Bringing up extremes like Dolis is a poor argument. I appreciate all the nuances of the game in a relaxed atmosphere. The game was never intended to include a clock that will penalize players. Where are the historical statistics for that?

I am not trying to convince anyone but I will sure expose the stupidity of it all.

Goddamn you're a whiny baby. We get that you're a crotchety old f***er who is completely resistant to change but honestly man you'll be so much better off once you just accept the new reality of the pitch clock and move on. I don't get all of the bitching and moaning about this change, it's like you enjoy watching batters constantly adjusting their batting gloves, pitchers shaking off the catcher 10 times in a row, 8 pick off attempts in at bat, and all of the other assorted s*** that does nothing but serve to slow the game down.

Well, can’t try to lowball anyone when you have the guy in both leagues you’re in

Shintaro Fujinami is 6'6 and sitting 97-98 with a wipeout split at 91 and a slider he uses a fair bit. He's also walked three guys in a row. He must have no command at all to have signed for 3.2M or whatever.

command has been so bad historically that I think he's been up and down between their minor leagues, every year.

On BR, JPCL is the main NPB "Central League" and JPWL is one of their minor league circuits, the "Western League"

Shut up or I’ll start talking about the board NBA dynasty where I was #1 Week 1 to finish

Can’t blame the blue there. I’d do what I’m paid for and go home. Pretty funny though. I’ve never seen that

Is that that quiet quitting nonsense that people keep talking about?

That's different.

yes they had the catcher call balls and strikes. No sense framing, you get the call you want.

Probably was the best called half inning yet this year.

Spring training is a different breed.

In the old days, players would run laps in the outfield to get back into playing shape. DURING the game.

This was already happening to pitchers multiple times per game because batters could call time, infinitely

Is your only function on this forum now to repost the weird Twitter guy who finds the small handful of violations that occur and acts like they’re the death of the sport?

Seriously. That play literally happens every game.

He has to be trolling at this point. No way he's that dumb. This was happening all the time under the old rules with the batter calling time up until the very last second.

I had to unfollow that dude, dude was an excellent follow with quirky stats and stuff, but he's gone full toe JaysAllMighty.
