Yes its been quite a ride for him recently

He's pretty good I believe, weird, he reminded me of a better Cimber.

I’m guessing 13/520 as max deal, maybe 12/500

You're high, lol.

He'll have pitching tags to his deal, and will crush 700M with those bonuses.

You know, it's been reported that the Cubs were in at 500 +... they've fallen out of the dibs, it seems. Hmmm.......

Ohtani's agent is going to do his job, and get him the most until Shohei says so at the end of negotiations to what team he's had in mind the whole time. It'll be sick money.

I think Ohtani's deal will end up being closer to $600m than $500m. If he didn't have to miss 2024 as a pitcher and could have marketed himself as a two way player, then it would have cleared $600m, IMO. You're not going to see this type of FA for a long time. Between the uniqueness of his talent + the revenue he can generate, this will be a massive contract. Wouldn't shock me if there's an opt out after year 2 so he can re-enter the market in 2026 after presumably pitching an entire season in 2025, but that depends on what his goals are.

Easily clear 600, he'll end up with 100M in bonuses this time through.

His contract will be a cool read, haha!

Ohtani will be lucky if someone gives him more than 550m. He will be lucky to see 500 innings the rest of his career and I would bet the under on that. Someone may give incentives if he can stay healthy and pitch 5+ years but would be shocked if someone is going to guarantee something like 60m over a decade.

If having him was such a great revenue generator you’d think the angels chart for total generated wouldn’t look the same as pretty much any other team the last 20 years

I bet there at least 10 teams that would pay him 60M to DH for 2024

Yeah it sounds crazy for a DH but the short term commitment has to be so damn appealing that it would create a premium on the AAV.

Not really a fan of these Reds moves.

They never spend money but I think the way to go would be to wait out the market some and then try and find deals toward the end. Striking on sizable deals for mediocre talent like Pagan and Martinez makes the team better but they need to make their bullets count.

I saw the Andre Dawson thing mentioned here but just read an article on it. I always thought the player got to pick his hat. Like McGriff recently. Guess not obviously

42M on Pagán and Martinez is a waste. They’ll be paying these two what Sonny Gray makes next year.

Kind of smells like the Jays signing Tanner Roark in 2019-2020 offseason. A demonstrated willingness to begin spending, so a good sign generally, but not necessarily a good use of money. Of course Toronto also signed Ryu that offseason and then made bigger moves in the following years. We will see if the Reds follow up these oatmeal signings with a more significant move, or maybe a bigger move next offseason. They should! But they probably won't because they are poor.
