Laika Community Moderator Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 I am a God fearing man. Win the next two and clinch then push Gausman back. Gausman-Berrios-Bassitt vs TBR or Berrios-Bassitt-Kikuchi/Ryu vs MIN ????
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Facing the Twins is basically a first round bye to the Divisional Series.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 That Texas game lastnight was a joke.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 (edited) I dont know how they would handle it... maybe like spring training here the regulars start and then half get replaced during the game. There's a case to made either way for keeping hitters timing up to speed vs resting guys that have nagging issues. Then there's the integrity of competition thing if that matters to them. Maybe they switch up the pitching rotation though. All we know from either team as far as SP goes is Civale vs Kikuchi tonight, next two are TBD on both sides. If you don't have a bye and you can't improve your post season positioning you really should be resting guys Would love to be able to rest Gausman, Bo, Springer and Chapman on Sunday Edited September 29, 2023 by G-Snarls
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 If the mariners sweep 3 and Houston wins 2, mariners win that division. Texas would be 3rd place in that division. In that scenario, we will have to get 2 wins? That gives Mariners 89, Houston 89, Texas 89. In that scenario Toronto needs to win 2. As otherwise it is the dreaded 4 way tie that is destined to happen anyway. I heard they already drafted Mike Wilner a statement to make after the four way tie. "Jays seasons ends for the second time in 3 years watching an out of town game on the jumbotron. J.P. Crawford ties it with the Mariners down to their last strike and Julio Rodriguez walks it off in dramatic fashion. Seattle is going wild and congratulations to the Mariners. And to all you negative Nancies I now concede the season is indeed over. But you know what? It wasn't over in May. It wasn't over in June. It wasn't over after getting swept by Texas. For the fourth year in a row every single inning the Jays played was meaningful. Get real people. They tied for the last playoff spot and they had to go to the second round of tie breakers. You literally cannot get closer than that. I'm old enough to remember 1987 and 1990 and what happened next. The Jays have averaged 90 wins the last three years. That's a damn good team. The sad thing is about contending, is just that, it's contending, no guarantee of anything. There will be some changes for next year, but not as many as some expect. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is 25 next year. Bo Bichette 26, they are headed into their best years. Kirk and Varsho are damn good players, and both way better hitters than they showed this year. Alec Manoah has some things to work through but is 26 and will get every chance to sort himself out. There is zero doubt in my mind they are a 90 win team again next year and with just a bit better luck will be playing deep into October. It was a great year, a fun year, and I'm already looking forward to another. See you in March" MW

Governator Community Moderator Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Lopez, Gray, Ryan, Johan out of the pen....The Twins are hitting the ball well... I would worry... Not to mention they got great pitching and we were 3-3 on the season against them. All that said, I'd rather face the Twins than any other team in the postseason.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Jays Playoff Scenarios: Win 2: 100% Win 1: 93% Win 0: 76% This is a lock folks. I say we win 1 game to try and set up a matchup with the Twins. We might even want to win 0. You must be new to baseball
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Seems like Aroldis Chapman is throwing games every other night but you look at his numbers and you're like wait.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 The ALDS will be easy to make.

Laika Community Moderator Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 They can still win 1 and clinch tonight if Seattle loses Yeah that's the best case scenario. Clinch tonight then throw the final 2 games on purpose.
