John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2023 Author Posted May 24, 2023 (edited) They were being called overrated going into the year and not feared long-term last year. Don’t revise history Don't conflate opinions of other people with mine. If you want to call Baltimore a WS contender, that's fine. Ditto Texas. That's not my opinion, nor was it my opinion that Baltimore and Texas would be trash. My early ST opinion on Texas was that they could be either really good or really bad depending on things breaking right or wrong for them in their highly variable and injury prone roster. So far it's definitely landed in their favour as they beat up on a ton of soft teams and been very healthy overall, save for DeGrom. They've lost series to Atlanta and Baltimore, and won a series vs the Yankees. That's about the extent of their season facing good teams. Texas hasn't had even 2 consecutive series so far against good teams. Theyre doing well, as they should be, but you dont learn anything about a team whos played that many softies early on. As for Baltimore, there's clear red flags with the starting rotation. Pen is solid in the back end. Offense can bludgeon people. They haven't had a bad stretch yet. They will. We'll see what they are and how they react when that happens. Just like we're seeing what the Jays are and how they are reacting in their current bad stretch. Edited May 24, 2023 by John_Havok
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 You spent all offseason pumping the tires of the Mets, Phillies, and Padres along with Texas. False. I’ve merely said as a blanket statement that I can admire owners that aren’t afraid to lose money to put a good product on the field

The fact that I don’t mind the bogus rape claims doesn’t reflect anything to baseball acumen. For the record, I never thought for a second TOR would ever entertain signing him

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Just watching a bit of the As and Red Sox...man Paxton can still pitch. He just struck out Trout and Ohtani. The big question with Pax...how long can he stay healthy this time. Hopefully he can hold it together for his sake. I can't stand the Sox, but I've always liked Paxton.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 BAL will not go away coming back to lead 9-5 after being down 5-1 against Nestor. In the AL East, every single game matters.

Gunnar Henderson now up to .206 .340 .390 or so after a slow start. Every Baltimore prospect walks a tonne and hits for power. So are able to carry a .200 average for a while and still contribute. Henderson is a 22 year old prospect and Cavan Biggio a 28 year old failure, but they have similar skill sets (Henderson obviously more skilled with a super high ceiling). I think Toronto should release Biggio and hope he gets picked up by a good organization and then see what they do with him. If Biggio goes back to being a .240 .370 .400 contributor that will be a clear signal that something is seriously wrong with this organization, and mass firings can begin.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Red Sox are now moving Kluber to the pen I still don't understand how they're holding it together so far Blue Jays should trade for Kluber. Shapiro and Atkins are familiar with him.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 I wouldn't consider the Rangers or the Orioles World Series contenders at this moment in time. If they make the Postseason, sure they can go on a run like we saw the Phillies did last Postseason, so anything could happen. I maybe only consider 4 - 5 teams World Series contenders (Braves, Dodgers, Astros, Rays) but even still they could all get knocked out in the DS or CS.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Blue Jays should trade for Kluber. Shapiro and Atkins are familiar with him. If it was 2014 Kluber and not cooked Kluber.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 If it was 2014 Kluber and not cooked Kluber. Shapiro and Atkins can bring back the 2014 Kluber. Especially with the state of the art pitching lab the Jays have in Dunedin!

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Does the lab have a built in time machine? Should have Elon Musk build one. Imagine the rotation and bullpen the Jays could have!

A guy can’t be walking at a 16% clip if he can’t hit. It wasn’t sustainable. The Jays didn’t just suddenly tell him to stop walking. Doesn’t have anything to do with the org
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Author Posted May 25, 2023 Just something funny i found... On November 20, 1884 — The National League agrees to allow overhand pitching, but rules that pitchers must keep both feet on the ground throughout their pitching motion in order to reduce the velocity of their pitches. They still must throw the ball at the height requested by the batter. In addition, teams are now required to supply a separate bench for each club at their park to limit inter-team fraternization. That's right folks, the pitcher had to throw the pitch where the hitter wanted it, and could only throw overhand if both feet remained on the ground during his motion, to limit velocity. My god baseball games would never end if this was still in place today.
