The Phillies are a mess

Seems like their success last season was a bit of a mirage.

Once Nola and Wheeler get settled in, and once they get Harper back, they should be alright. Though they are not going to the World Series again, that's for sure.

If the Pirates didn’t have a top catching prospect Reynolds would definitely be a Jay rn

Oof... didn't think he'd get that much, lol.

Rendon put his hands on a fan. If this happened in the NBA or NFL the entire league would grind to a halt.

Well in fairness, there was no Malice in the Palace in baseball that I can remember, lol

That was some crazy stuff

Bullpen day for them tomorrow and then they face Gerrit Cole after that. They could very conceivably be 0-6 for their opening series at home.

People forget they almost choked away a playoff spot in September before they got unbelievably hot in October. They were never as good as they seemed when it came to their World Series run. Plus, now they’re missing Hoskins and Harper too.

Yeah the only reason they even made the playoffs was because the Brewers choked even harder.

That’s why all you gotta do is make it in, never know what will happen.

More playoff teams makes the regular season less relevant, less interesting for fans it is basically just about making money for owners

First person to go will be the PC. A couple more rounds through the rotation and if things don't improve, I can't see Walker staying here. There's too much money now in the rotation, this isn't a bunch of scraps put together anymore. This team, although with many holes, was assembled to now compete for the WS.

He grabbed his shirt, and i'm sure the douche fan deserved some lip service.

This reminded me of the time the Pacers charged the bleachers and started fighting fans.

Exchanging words is different than grabbing a dude’s shirt and taking a swipe at him. Think about what would happen if the roles were reversed.

Mike Milbury went into the stands and beat a fan with his own shoe.

Alex Verdugo rips Alek Manoah for his displays of disrespect

Alex Verdugo is pro-emotion on the baseball field.

But there’s a line, which he thinks Alek Manoah crosses.

The Toronto Blue Jays ace has indisputable talent. But what is up for debate is his on-field behavior, something that has at times come under fire. Perhaps most notably, clips went viral of him last summer barking at Franchy Cordero and Bobby Dalbec after striking them out.

He also drew the ire of the Yankees, specifically Gerrit Cole, a month later when he plunked Aaron Judge.

Manoah is a showman on the mound. And while that isn’t an inherently bad thing, Verdugo ripped Manoah on “Baseball Isn’t Boring,” specifically citing the incident last year.

“If it's a genuine reaction and it’s for the boys, not directed towards somebody, then yeah (it’s fine),” Verdugo said. “Like I’ll say it right now, I think Alek Manoah goes about it the wrong way, 100 percent I think he does. You can find videos of him, footage of him in Triple-A going like this to hitters. Last year, telling Franchy and Bobby like go sit, s*** like that and looking right at them.

“So it’s like, s*** like that just pisses me off. It’s not the way it should be played. It should be played like you’re celebrating it with your team, you’re not f***ing disrespecting another player who is – at the end of the day we’re just trying to compete, that’s it.”

There is a difference between being emotional and being disrespectful. Clearly, Verdugo thinks Manoah errs too often on the side of disrespect.

That's the problem, it doesn't have the talent to be a WS contender. It'll be lucky to be a playoff team. That's on the FO, but I agree, the scapegoats will be sacrificed first. That's how it goes.

Manoah is our new Stroman. I'd say he's a little less annoying. Isn't constantly monitoring twitter for any perceived slight as bad as Stroman.

don't call him fat though

Verdugo is an annoying ****, but he's right about Manoah. He needs to tone it down.

On the one hand, Mahoah's piss and vinegar is part of his success as a pitcher, but on the other hand, it can become a problem if he doesn't cool it with the theatrics.

If Alex Verdugo is upset then I'd say Manoah should just... keep being the same, lol.

If Verdugo's talking bad about you, it's probably a good thing. That guy's a tool.

I'm not dumb enough to f*** with Rendon in any capacity. That guy's scary looking.

I’m usually not a “get off my lawn” guy about baseball, but the Manoah stuff is bad for the sport.

Kids imitate pros and there’s no place for that stuff coming up
