I imagine the vesting option is based on him not breaking down, so he’ll still pull a 10/270 if he doesn’t break down. Best he could do I guess

That’s insane.

I wonder if he has opt outs and stuff.

The medical concerns must be legitimate. Very concerning

He didn’t do too bad. He probably doesn’t want to go through this s*** again.

The vesting option is probably pretty cushy, not vesting in nearly disaster scenario.

He leaves maybe $40m on the table, 2 less years though

BREAKING: Shortstop Carlos Correa and the Minnesota Twins are finalizing a six-year, $200 million contract, sources tell ESPN. The deal has a vesting option that can max out at $270 million. It is pending physical.

Damnit, was hoping Jorge Polanco would get back SS eligibility on Fantrax.

This is f***ing crazy lol what a roller coaster.

Boras probably screwed CC out of a decent chunk of change by jumping ship to the Mets and spurning SF so quickly. Feel like SF would have renegotiated a new deal if Boras had given time.

He gave them 10 days?!

The Mets agreement was announced like 1-2 days after he had his physical. It was only 1 week between the two announcements. He had his physical Monday, by Tuesday night Boras had jumped ship and agreed with the Mets.

I specifically read Boras saying they had discussions of the issue prior and gave them 10 days to do the deal. Or maybe I dreamt it. :P

So the Mets offer required Correa to take an annual physical each year to guarantee the next year of the deal? That would be a ridiculous thing to sign.

If that was a real offer, can't imagine the union would have been happy with it.

Yeah, that's ridiculous, that's what vesting options are for.

This indicates how desperate Boras was. Creating arbitrary urgent deadlines is a typical scumbag sales move. He must know how damaged Correa's ankle is.

If this is progressive arthritis from his previous fracture, it could be career threatening, similar to the hip injury that ended Albert Belle's career.

If this is true, taking that short term show-me deal last year was a 100% idiot move by Boras and Correa. All of this is speculation though.

Your first mistake was listening to what Boras says. He also said there was nothing of concern. Then the Mets found concern. There was certainly not 10 days between the physical and the Mets announcement.

The cancelled press conference, info that there was issues with the physical, and Correa agreeing to a deal with the Mets all happened within like 24hrs.

Lets be honest here, Boras threw a hissy fit when they canceled the conference and went straight to Cohen. Pride and optics

In the end I’m glad he didn’t end up with the Mets. And he will continue to play Shortstop.

This report is suggesting the Mets offer was actually 6 years $157.5M? has anyone else confirmed this? He signed for MORE in Minny?

True. Cohen can suck a dick. Asking to re-up the physical each year is insulting and sets a pretty bad precedence for the players union

Seems legit:

Hmmmmmm so it wasn't the physical that killed the Mets deal, if Heyman's source is to be believed:

SFG - deal dead based on physical

NYM - deal dead based on Contract terms disagreement

MIN - TBD

Oh - so the first 6 years was guaranteed, but the last 6 years were conditional on passing an annual physical. Got it. That makes more sense.

Mets first offer was also cancelled because of the physical. On the re-negotiated deal they couldn't agree on contract terms.

I wonder if the yearly physical was to be just focused on his ankle/leg that was previously injured. Like if he had an arm injury or shoulder issue instead he'd still "pass" this annual physical.

Source: Trevor Story had internal brace surgery yesterday on his right elbow and is expected to miss time.

Red Sox confirm this as:

Story had internal bracing procedure of the right ulnar collateral ligament (elbow). Dr. Keith Meister performed the surgery at Texas Metroplex Institute in Arlington, Texas.

Chaim Bloom will talk today.

I get that, but Boras had said they had 10 days to sign, signed him and got cold feet. No big deal.
