Taking a step back, even if what Atkins said was 100% true, he went about it in an extremely toxic and self serving way.

It is clear to any observer that his priority is protecting himself above all else. His words today will undoubtedly impact the culture of this team going forward, and can only be resolved if he is fired.

From today onwards, every coach/player will know that this front office will protect itself first and foremost when facing adversity. I'm sure that will do wonders for the on field product.

Yea hiring first time mlb managers who obviously have little power and then pinning the blame on them screams terrible culture.

Which makes sense. Weird underperformance in hitting. Always feel like not hitting our potential. Sounds like a bad culture to me.

Yeah it's difficult to see it any other way anymore

Or Atkins is being completely truthful and JS is just a piss poor manager with zero intuition or feel for the game. Hope JS learns from the last two seasons and asserts some dominance next season because he is coming back Jays fans.

He hired two of those in a row then. 100% of his manager hires are duds if that is true.

If Atkins is being completely truthful then JS would have been fired already, and not announcing his return.

The rots much deeper than revolving door managers Charlie and JS will solve. That’s become more exposed today. The person who hired them both has to be accountable.

I'm not 100% sure that everything has been decided

I don't think Shapiro is a snap decision maker. And anything coming from Rogers down would be slow - corporate process

Come on. You're not that naive. If that's really JS own decision, he would had been fired already. This is basically just Atkins trying to protect himself.

Shapiro would be considered a hero if he fires Atkins now. I’m holding out hope that it’s still on the table. Atkins usually gives corporate BS answers so for him to be more scorched earth than usual might be a sign that he’s feeling some heat.

This is the one time Rogers being obsessed with optics might be a good thing because Jays fans and even some media aren’t having Atkins and Schneider right now.

RIGHT!!

If the truth is, this was all the dugouts decision, then obviously JS cant read the game. One of the 2 have to be gone. This is not acceptable.

Funny that jays twitter now post anything about that presser.

I guess they know what they will get if they do.

Man ballard might be thanking the jays from his grave. He soon will no longer be known for the worst managed team in toronto's history

Just throwing it out there. In my opinion they should both be gone.

Also Don mattingly has to be gone. He should have turned to Schneider during that game and said have you lost your f****** mind?

I have no reason not to believe Atkins. Obviously it was Schneider all the way, real dumb manager.

Okay

I’d have a ton more respect for Atkins if he gave the rationale for the decision, and then stood by it.

If i was ownership, i’d want to know why the dude in a uniform in the dugout is making these decisions when i’m paying all this money for my front office. Either hire someone who makes better decisions (either in the FO or the dugout), or stand by the decision that the process came to. The idea that the manager makes the decisions with basically no active input from the front office is INSANE. That’s fireable to me. One bad decision in one playoff game where scored zero runs is meaningless compared to that.

There’s no way. Too many people like Shulman, Buck, etc have said the opposite.

So they have a lie detector up their asses? Give me a break.

Its more like they aren’t idiots and know that they didn’t hire a minor league manager and give them 1990s manager power.

Produce a quote where any of them said that Atkins made the call.

"we know it wasn't your call"

Dan Schulman on what the players said to Schneider after the game (paraphrasing)... he was on Blair & Barker

At the letters most recent podcast is interesting. I think released before Atkin’s press conference.

On John Schneider, they talk a bit about how he is part of an organizational philosophy, part of a ‘collective’, and doesn’t deserve individual blame.

One of them also said (can never tell which is which) he had a bad year, and the other disagreed.

I’m very interested in hearing the next podcast now Atkins threw Schneider under the bus.

I can't believe both Akins and John are both returning. This is a massive off-season for them.

That’s not really what he did, it’s a weird interpretation of what Atkins said. The entire quote from Atkins seems to be getting lost in all the fans’ whining
