jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Bullpen needs a serious overhaul. Nah they traded for Zach Pop and Anthony Bass at the trade deadline, this bullpen even got better!
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 These two games have been, without question, the worst performances in franchise history. Mistakes in all aspects of the game. No focus, no preparation, and no compete level. I was ashamed to even be wearing my jersey by the end of the game. It will be the last time I waste money on tickets for a while. I've been a big proponent of being patient over the past few years but BIG changes have to come this offseason. Players who don't care about winning, and there are clearly a lot of them, have to be moved out in favour of guys who are fully committed to winning. It may not be cheap or popular, but we will never achieve success with this group. I've never witnessed a team in any sport put on a performance as bad as I saw the last 2 nights. It was disgusting. Yeah something is fundamentally wrong with this team. Some changes do need to be made this offseason.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 So Raimel Tapia is the worst Blue Jay ever all things considered correct? There have been worse players by talent but cmon. Consider the context and plays. Horrendous result, bad player I love how we all hated the trade from the get go and knew he’d be getting way too much playtime. He was playing wayyy to much over the last couple weeks. Cost us huge today.
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 One of my favourite interview questions as a manager for sales teams is "what statement resonates more with you?" I love winning or I hate losing. This team does not hate losing. It loves winning but it doesn't HATE losing. Maybe this result changes some things for them but they have a lot to prove until they learn to have more fire in their bellies.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 '87 worse That was over a number of days as mentioned and the deciding game was a one run loss or very close game I believe. Today, was a bigger loss in context then any that I can recall and I have been watching since the 80’s.

Laika Community Moderator Posted October 9, 2022 Author Posted October 9, 2022 I swear to god I would kick Raimel Tapia in the nuts if I ran into him in person right now How did he not just make that catch Why did he act hurt when he wasn’t hurt Why did he not even try to catch that lazy pop fly down the line Legit, if Zimmer is on the roster and he replaces Merrifield the game ends like 9-6
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 9, 2022 Author Posted October 9, 2022 From the moment Tim Mayza entered the game he had perhaps the worst body language I’ve even seen from a pitcher. Like his dog just died. Sulking on the mount. Emo. Asking for misery.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 9, 2022 Author Posted October 9, 2022 8-1 They could have literally brought Kikuchi in and said finish the game kid and they would have almost certainly won it

BCZ Verified Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Tapia making the final out on the Jays season was almost a poetic way to end 2022. I just wish he would have reached 500 plate appearances during the regular season. The Jays certainly tried to get him there. hear! hear!

Weird move from an org that mostly has been serious about winning.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Worst loss in a playoff game in MLB since 1929. Setting the standards.

Bro just log off and stick with artificially inseminating cockroaches or some s*** lol. I've obviously had my run-ins with the guy, but since he spent the last couple of weeks dissing Seattle he can't mentally accept they are a decent ball club on par with the Jays. So he has to exaggerate how bad the Jays are to reconcile things. Castilla is pretty good. Bass may not be. The catcher Raleigh has power. Santana can still get big extra base hits (as we saw in July and today). Frazier isn't a .230 hitter. Their starting depth came in handy when they made Kirby a closer in a 1 run game. This f***ing sucks. Worse loss ever as the thread title says. But are they a unfixable flawed Jays team ever that won't know how to win? Probably a 9-5 win with one more swing and miss reliever.

Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 I just want someone to ask Schneider: why Mayza-Santana matchup (who thought that was a good idea) and why the lack of aggressive defensive substitutions when up by 7?

I want someone to actually hit him with the numbers. Ask him why he went with a lefty when his numbers are far better vs L. Ask follow up questions to the BS answers. Im sick of the media being so nice and easy on the players/managers. Call out the BS
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 I just got back to my hotel after attending the game. Not even really sure what to say but I think it would be therapeutic to at least share something. 1. Atkins traded for Bass at the deadline and the Mariners traded for Luis Castillo. Gabriel Moreno didn't log any playing time during the series while Jansen and Kirk, two talented Catchers in their prime, both played well. 2. Schneider rode Mayza like he was Munoz or something. Puzzling decision to turn Santana around like that. At this point in his career he's basically a platoon bat that should only face lefties. It put them right back in the game. 3. A lot of this was just dumb luck by the Mariners as their bloop hits fell but I feel like the Jays OFers could have caught some of them and they didn't. Both Tapia and Springer had a shot on some flyballs and they both failed. JBJ rode pine up until the point the game was tied at which point we needed his bat. He should have went into the game for Merrifield. If he does we probably win. Another odd choice by Schneider. 4. I'm blaming Schneider a lot and it's mostly the fault of the relievers (even Romano who let Adam Frazier and his .311 SLG line a double off him) but he did make some bad decisions and his post game comments were infuriating. He looks more no-nonsense than Montoyo but it's barely the case. He's another laid back player's manager. I think we should pay for a veteran manager with playoff experience. We have a talented core but we keep pissing away our chances. 5. I'm not really sure what the team sees in Tapia. He logged a ton of playing time this year and continued to do so in the playoffs. As much as they play him it seems like offering him arb is a possibility but I really hope they don't. He's a jack of no trades who does everything below average which makes him a terrible bench player.

Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Schneider said in the post-game that they were comfortable facing Santana as a RHH and Mayza is tough to get a homer off of but like no stats shows that... Santana is better RHH against LHP than LHH against RHP, and in his 49 IP, Mayza has a 25.9% HR/FB rate. What even, what the f*** like Mayza didn't even make a bad pitch but Santana read it all the way.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Worst part of it all (nobody wants to admin it) is the Jays didn't really make any obvious mistakes... the Mariners just got lucky AF. Really bad pitching from the bullpen all around though. And bad decisions by Schneider. But yeah they played fairly clean ball other than that Springer/Bo collision. Scored 9 runs. Weren’t swinging at junk (maybe George was). Even at the end against Kirby they looked good/comfortable. 99% win probability in the 5th. Mariners just have that magic this year.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Schneider said in the post-game that they were comfortable facing Santana as a RHH and Mayza is tough to get a homer off of Oh yes its been so long since Mayza gave up a homer. Can’t remember the last time he did. It would probably be hard to even find a video of Mayza giving up a homerun to a righty.

At least today was exciting for 5-6 innings. Yesterday was a f***ing snoozer. I feel like I wasted so much time watching this team, attending games, spending money on merch, etc. Definitely gonna cut back next year.
