Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 For arguments sake, if the Jays signed 2nd rounder Kasevich, 7th rounder Williams, 9th rounder Harrison for slot, they would be able to give Barriera just over $3.4M (that includes the 5% overage). I'm guessing there are still more savings that we'll see though.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 I used to use their tracker but a few of their numbers are sometimes off by small amounts and it triggers my OCD, lol. I'll fill in the blanks using their data for now though. Ya. Their number for Jennings is off from other #'s I've seen.

Maybe that would allow them to give Pace 300k and get him to sign .

But I could be completely off and he signs for slot.

I’m dreaming on Pace. I love guys like that who are pure athletes as late picks.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 BA has us locking up 2nd rounder Josh Kasevich for $997,500 ($219,200 under slot) AND 7th rounder Peyton Williams for $197,500 ($13,000) under slot. Just leaves Brandon Barriera and 9th rounder Devereaux Harrison to lock up for the first 10 rounds. We have just shy of $3.8m to sign both (that includes the 5% overage).
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 11th rounder Pat Gallagher signs for $125K 15th rounder Michael Turconi signs for $75K

Probably puts Barriera at around $3.7M, which is well overslot as originally reported. Another nice draft.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 So we have approximately $593,485 over slot to spend on Barriera and Pace if all reported numbers are correct.

Ehjays Verified Member Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 I think we sign all but for Rd 20 Pace and RD12 Nolan Perry Based on the Tweet earlier on.....you never kow he may sign by Toronto in final round of MLB draft Detroit Edison's Gregory Pace Jr. was expected to be selected early in the MLB draft. But the waiting game went from rounds to days for the Pace family, until he got selected in the final round. Detroit Edison baseball standout Greg Pace was projected to be selected in the top five rounds of the MLB draft this week. But the waiting game went from rounds to days for the Pace family, until he got selected in the final round by the Toronto Blue Jays. By Tuesday evening, Pace was watching episodes of Vampire Diaries when his name got called in the 2022 MLB draft. "I’m like are you sure?" Pace recalled as how he reacted when he heard the news. Truth is, while waiting for his name to get called, he watched every round for three days, but the final round. But sure enough, the Blue Jays did in fact call his name while his mom held out hope and watched the TV. LaQuitta, Greg's mother, screamed with joy as she heard the television say, "the Toronto Blue Jays select, Gregory Pace JR, an outfielder from Detroit Edison." "There were obviously feelings of disappointment, but at the end of the day I don’t think rounds matter," said Pace confidently. "I think we’re all reaching the same goal all going to the MLB one day." To know Greg Pace is to know that he is grounded, unassuming, and ready to work. "I'm just thankful that my name was in the draft and you just gotta take a chance that not a lot of people’s name got called," said Pace." It means a lot, a lot of joy, happiness. You look back at it, that's a lot of hard work paid off." "Outside of baseball one thing I do value is my family and friends and just looking at the people who were in my corner supporting me throughout the whole process, I couldn’t thank them enough" said Pace as he recalled the important of his "tight circle" of friends and family. So now it’s time to decide between playing at the University of Michigan where he committed or signing directly with Toronto and beginning his professional career at the age of 17. "If it’s me going pro right now, or me going to Ann Arbor for three years and then coming up… there are a lot of things that are out of my control, but I can control what I can," said Pace. "So whatever option is best for me and my family I think I’m going to go with it." Pace said he had a feeling throughout the recruiting process and sort of always knew it would be Toronto. The Blue Jays scout came to nearly every high school game of his and was approachable each time he saw Greg. "They're a young team, capable, they’re building a lot of structure and what are the odds it’s the team out of the country," Pace said with a smile. "So now I have to get a passport." So first step, get a passport. Second step, get to work. And to be in the position to prove himself, is a position Greg Pace said he is made for. "The journey is never easy. There will be a lot of obstacles that you have to go around, come around, but nothing is impossible," said Pace

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 Brandon Barriera signed for $3,597,500. If all numbers reported are correct, that would leave us with $71,285 over slot.
Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 If all numbers reported are correct, that would leave us with $71,285 over slot. Probably not enough to get pace to sign but I can hope.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 If all numbers reported are correct, that would leave us with $71,285 over slot. I show $79,605
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 It's kinda funny that the only player that we've heard from, that sounds like a 'No' with regards to signing, is the one Canadian we drafted. Pilon.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 Read that Nolan Perry's Insta shows that he's part of the Blue Jays organization. Could mean nothing, could mean something.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 Looks like 16th rounder Kale Davis is a No.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2022 Author Posted July 26, 2022 If all numbers reported are correct, that would leave us with $71,285 over slot. I show $79,605 Not sure if you guys have your numbers off or I do, but I'm getting $69,985 in the tracker. Also, it should be noted that these numbers are never going to be precise down to the dollar, and the reason Baseball America and MLB.com can report numbers that are off by a small fraction is because of this little-known rule: So if you're ever wondering why almost every single Blue Jays draft signing is exactly $2,500 off from a nice round number, it's because of this. They can give each player $2,500 as a contingency bonus and save that against their slot. So if one of these reporters is getting the bonus info from a player-side source, they might tell you the full amount, whereas if the source is team-side, you'll get the technically correct amount. In other words, Brandon Barriera, his family and his agent will tell you he signed for $3,600,000, because that's the number he receives. The Blue Jays-side sources will tell you he signed for $3,597,500. So for all we know, Tucker Toman's draft cap hit is $1,997,500 but the info we received on him says flat 2 million. Impossible to know exactly what the number is and exactly how much money the Jays have left to spend. Rarely matters though because it's not often you see the team spend up to their 5% overage cap down to the exact dollar.

That's the same link I got my numbers from. They must have updated it. Never seen them do that before. TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2022 Author Posted July 26, 2022 Alright, I've fixed up all the numbers in the OP. The Jays have $74,605 left overslot. In other words, they can still give one of the Round 11-20 guys a $200,000 signing bonus ($125,000 allowance + ~$72-75K overslot + $2,500 contingency bonus). Obviously, it would be incredible if that were somehow enough for Greg Pace but if not, hopefully they're able to grab one of the other guys.

It doesn't necessarily mean Pace isn't signing, they always release a bunch of signings in a big batch once a year and they have made signings afterwards a few times. That said, it's probably true in this instance since they managed to sign Perry. They must have used everything they had left to get him.
