Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 As an example, we just signed Fluharty $125k underslot. That now "extra" money can be used to give Barriera (or anyone) an overslot signing.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 About $320k in savings so far if my mental math is accurate
InsideThePark Verified Member Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 Barriera will probably get close to 4 million which is almost a million overslot. If he failed to sign we wouldn't get the 3.08 million from his slot but the 0.92 million extra that we saved from other guys signing underslot that we were planning to give him could be alloted to a HS guy later. Essentially guys drafted as backup if something happened where you didn't end up signing your planned overslot guys. Think of the Mets last year. They planned on giving Rocker 2 million overslot at 10th overall. Because of medical issues they didn't sign him. They didn't draft any highly rated HS guys late in the draft as backup so they had nobody to give that extra 2 million to which means they basically wasted it. You want to avoid that by picking a potential overslot HS guy late.
Blazeit420 Verified Member Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 Just a few more punts and hopefully we'll have about 1.5 million in overslot. Will that be enough to sign Barriera and Toman?
InsideThePark Verified Member Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 Just a few more punts and hopefully we'll have about 1.5 million in overslot. Will that be enough to sign Barriera and Toman? Yes, this management has shown when they draft it's with a plan. They know how much it costs and all the top 12 guys will sign barring some weird unknown medical issue. The only question for the fanbase is whether they set themselves up with any extra money to sign some of the HS guys in round 11-20(besides the catcher who is confirmed to be signing)

We also have $400k+ if we decide to spend up to 5% over and pay the penalty. Spoiler alert... We always do.
Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 (edited) Kiley McDaniel with his draft breakdown. He has Toman and Barreria as his 15th and 16th overall players. He also has pace as a top 150 guy which confirms in my mind that he’s probably not signing. https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/34276506/did-your-team-ace-2022-mlb-draft-kiley-mcdaniel-recap-all-30-teams Edited July 23, 2022 by Dagagad

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Very interested to see what Toman signs for. I'm guessing somewhere between $1.5m - $2m
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 Cade and Tucker signed. Goodbye Groshans and his paper bat
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2022 Author Posted July 24, 2022 I could be wrong but McCarty getting 120K means the Jays used 100K out of their slot on an UFA. The limit for those guys I think is only 20K. Also, why was a guy worth 120K playing in D3?

Edit: https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/mlb-removes-20-000-cap-on-undrafted-free-agent-signing-bonuses/ Yea, it’s back to 125k.

Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 Nice, thanks. McCarty was 333 overall on one random Twitter ranking guy I follow’s list. I guess he’s a real dude. I’m surprised he had enough leverage to get 120k there. I’m also always surprised that mlb teams would nickel and dime guys out of that extra 5k too though. Or at least, I’m surprised that if he is good, that a few teams wouldn’t have all offered him 125 and he picked. 120 seems like a weird number.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2022 Author Posted July 24, 2022 Wait... Divsion 3... Is McCarty the guy I posted a tweet about in one of the draft threads a few months ago?

Holy s***, yes it is! I forgot his name. Never would have imagined that he would end up on the Blue Jays. I'm a lot more stoked about this pick up now, lol. https://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/9758-2022-MLB-Draft-Discussion-Thread?p=1602030&viewfull=1#post1602030

Those are some insane numbers regardless of where he played.
Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 As a point of reference for the Toman signing, they paid him 39th pick overall value.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 As a point of reference for the Toman signing, they paid him 39th pick overall value. Reasonable considering he was linked to is at 23.
Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 Reasonable considering he was linked to is at 23. He was rumored to want 2.5 so we might have got a discount which is pretty sweet.

I'll fill in the blanks using their data for now though.
