Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 If one of the OFers were to be moved, they could just as easily bring one in. Send Gurriel out for pitching. Trade a prospect for Benintendi. Exactly this
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Lol so Charlie was just the monkey that pointed at names on the lineup card
BlueJaysFever Verified Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 I have zero issues with Montoyo going, it seemed like he lost the players confidence. This article is a bit old but still managers don't really win or lose you games. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/most-managers-are-headed-to-the-hall-of-mediocrity/ That’s an overall decent article for quantifiable measures. The human element is probably more of a factor here. If a good guy, players coach who gets the team’s spirits up by being one of the guys suddenly loses that lustre, how do we measure that impact? Certainly seems important.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 99% chance there is going to be little that changes when it comes to in game strategy and lineup decisions, especially considering this: Well if that's true, Schneider needs to go too.
polar bear Verified Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Great news, hoping the stupid jacket, and the horseshit dugout antics go with him.
M.E. Verified Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Any examples of interim managers winning the world series or being very successful? The Phillies manager right now is an example of success
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Not gonna lie, I feel kinda bad for Charlie. Great dude and this has to be a terrible time for his family. Hope he lands on his feet. He'll be able to find work. Don't you worry.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Great news, hoping the stupid jacket, and the horseshit dugout antics go with him. Burn the jacket, tell Vlad no more gatorade showers until we’re back 10 games over .500
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 He'll be able to find work. Don't you worry. yeah, doing what? can't imagine him ever getting another MLB managing gig unless it's to guide the Rockies through a 5 year rebuild or something
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Another thing as well. He knew he had a weak bullpen. When a starter was rolling and had a good pitch count, he should have rode them an extra inning rather than taking them out after 5 or 6 innings. Again, the weak bullpen is on the FO, though Charlie should have understood and managed his roster accordingly. I think we all see and agree with that, but it remains to be seen if that was Charlie's call or the FO. We will be able to tell now with Schneider running things.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Great news, hoping the stupid jacket, and the horseshit dugout antics go with him. Might want to follow Monotyo if you want that. Bout to ramp up to another level
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 TBH Charlie should have been fired in 2020 after he let Giles die on the mound in the first series of the season when he was very clearly injured
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Not gonna lie, I feel kinda bad for Charlie. Great dude and this has to be a terrible time for his family. Hope he lands on his feet. At least he's got another 1.5 years of pay coming.
EdwinsParrot Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Didnt think it would happen, but im glad it finally happened. Super nice guy and all but the man was not fit to be the manager of an MLB team.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 99% chance there is going to be little that changes when it comes to in game strategy and lineup decisions, especially considering this: "So if he already does that now" then why the hell is he being hired. Clearly the job being done now was not good enough lol
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 yeah, doing what? can't imagine him ever getting another MLB managing gig unless it's to guide the Rockies through a 5 year rebuild or something He'll definitely land another job in baseball with an organization and could find himself another MLB managing opportunity a couple of years down the road perhaps.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Any chance we hire one of Maddon/Girardi?? Interesting timing for sure Managers are kind of like RBI's in 1998. When the players in front of them play great and do their jobs, than that player racks up RBI's and people think he's doing a good job. If the players in front of him suck, people think he sucks. Are Maddon and Girardi good managers? Angels and Phillies don't think so, but maybe it's just because the team in front of them sucks.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 "So if he already does that now" then why the hell is he being hired. Clearly the job being done now was not good enough lol That's ********, Atkins was pushing Charlie's buttons. Let's now see if Schneider is given full reign.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Bring on John Schneider! He's the correct choice. Already won championships managing the Vancouver Canadians (2011), Dunedin Blue Jays (2017) and NH Fishercats (2018). But is he the alpha who will tear a strip off players who make mental mistakes and errors? (I mean if he was, wouldn't he do that as the bench coach already? or was a muzzled by the presence of Alpha Montoyo?)
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 "So if he already does that now" then why the hell is he being hired. Clearly the job being done now was not good enough lol "Pretty much" doesn't mean fully and most likely speaks to some of the day to day easy things Monotyo probably didn't want to do
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 This was the beginning of the end: https://streamable.com/g79yl1
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Look, I think the nail in the coffin was the return from the road trip out west where he said he thought they played well. Shapiro saw that and lost his mind I bet. If you can’t recognize as a manager that there is a problem you are beyond hope. Shapiro probably went to Atkins and prompted the firing. “Our results are not commensurate with our investment” would have been uttered at some point. Charlie seems like a decent human being and I wish him well but as someone once said, “this isn’t the try hard league, this is the get it done league”. You think the FO fired him because of his PC response to the f***ing media? Really? C'mon man.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 "Pretty much" doesn't mean fully and most likely speaks to some of the day to day easy things Monotyo probably didn't want to do Like talking to players when they are spiraling - as with Vlad last night. I have yet to see (publicly, in the dugout) Charlie go to someone and talk to them other than pitchers to tell them, they are done for the night. Granted I don't see Cora/Boone do it either but I don't watch Yanks/Sox games as frequently as I do Jays games (which is every day). Cora, in an interview, told a reporter to piss off about questioning his managing decisions because 'I am the manager and this is how I do it'. Alek was pissed he got taken off? Charlie just walks away and Schneider & Walker talk to him. Gibbons, on the other hand, would address that s*** right there and then lol. Not sure which is the better way, but I kind of get the feeling Charlie wanted to be liked by everyone.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Well holy s***. This is the best news Ive heard all day
Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 I almost never notice managers talking to guys in the dugout. It’s usually seen as ‘showing up’ the player.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Don't know what impact this will have Some players might be upset But rhe roster will likely be used better no matter who takes over
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Already started - Mariners' fans taking credit for breaking the Jays and getting Montoyo fired, lol Should we find their forum and send them a thank you post?
