If you could guarantee me that atkins is gone if we miss the playoffs and replaced by guys from the Rays/Astros… I’ll take the L this season.

That's some f***ed up train of thought, man.

Schneider: I like to be aggressive, I like to have fun, and I believe the players are their best when comfortable.

Uh oh, everyone wanting a hardass is going to be disappointed.

Take the loss for one season in exchange for possibly reaching our upside.

Lame duck seasons are..... lame.

My simple question to one #BlueJays veteran regarding Montoyo: Surprised by this at all?

“No. That’s all I’ll say.”

Suffice to say - he'd lost the clubhouse and it was time to go. Anything beyond that is immaterial.

Time to move on.

Who is a Blue Jays veteran? Teo, Jansen and Mayza?

I have a feeling it was Phelps.

When Rogers charges everyone some of the highest prices in the world, they can afford to waste money like this. That extension was a joke from the start and looks even dumber now. Go look at most people's reaction when that news was announced lol

That’s commonplace when a manager is about to be a “lame duck”. The fact that it was only a one year extension should have been an indication to people that this was a make or break season for Charlie.

I think many of you are reading to much into this, it's simply a shakeup, the team isn't performing, that's it. Lets see how they respond.

This , you folk are addicted to drama.

Montoyo had to go to shake things up, but our terrible performance this year has more to do with the ineffective starters and bullpen pieces. That has more to do with the players and the GM that decided that these pitchers were good enough to contend this year

Rumour has it that a few days ago Montoyo was at Rogers head office and tripped over a router cable causing some “minor” network disruption. Needless to say it didn’t help his fortunes.

Montoyo was the reason they had to air the game on Apple TV!? At least the opening broadcaster knew how to pronounce Gausman as "Gassman".

Behind the scenes there were clearly problems that we knew little to nothing about

I think this wins the internet today.

Guy never came across as a leader of men. The late night Bongo playing didn't help his case. The Front Office better find a way to turn the season around if they want to stay employed.

I agree. I'm sure there were some other underlying minor irritants. I now expect if they can find a deal that makes sense one or two of their regulars will be in a deal. They are gonna shake the team up. Maybe McGriff and Fernandez? Hopefully Shatkins had also had enough of some of the on the field baserunning sloppiness etc. This does send a message. Heat does turn up on them now.

Despite what many of us (myself included) would like to believe, I don't think he was fired for his on the field managerial performance or how he handled the pitching staff/pen, the batting order, dugout discipline etc. If the team had a players only meeting just a week ago, perhaps out of that meeting came to light some players concerns about Montoyo, vis a vis, his leadership of the team and it trickled upwards to Shapiro/Atkins. This is an important year and the team has made a significant financial committment; money talks. They aren't messing around and cut the cord. If Schnieder makes the playoffs and wins a series he will likely be managing this team next year. If not, all options are on the table for a new manager next year.

Nah. From all reports so far, this road was started on prior to that. The bottom line was, he lost the room. How he lost the room doesnt really matter at this point. It was probably not just 1 thing, but a combination as that's how these things usually play out. He just wasnt the right guy, they finally realized it, gave him a chance to reclaim it over the past few weeks, realized it was futile and finally did somethign about it.

They hired him in the first place

Hurts to have to fire him but so be it

Exactly. Every manager in baseball today will be fired at some point or has been fired multiple times. It doesn't necessarily mean the hire was wrong in the first place, just that it's no longer right... now.
