Managers are always the scapegoat for bad front office performance.

I don’t see how you fire the manager and not the pitching coach. That’s been the problem.

I don’t think this has anything to do with performance, more so that Charlie has lost the clubhouse. You could see it yesterday between him and Vlad. He just sits and doesn’t do or say s***.

Now maybe you could argue that the team’s performance is a byproduct of his poor leadership, and maybe that is correct. Either way though I don’t think he has control of the clubhouse and he’s too laid-back to be a MLB manager.

Personally - I had no issue with Charlie this year. I don't really blame him for the results. I believe most of the calls, direction and decisions are collectively made by the FO, high performance team and the coaching staff. That said, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it and we've seen these types of moves work before. Whether it's a new voice in the clubhouse, or simply the players taking a look in the mirror that their s***** play just caused someone to lose his job (and taking that personally) - they turn it on and start winning.

Fingers crossed that's what happens.

Charlie seems like a good guy. He served his purpose and I’m not going to celebrate someone losing their job, but this is the right call. Something had to give and the Jays need someone else to lead this team.

Exactly how I feel. Hard ot celebrate Montoyo losing his job when he seems like a great human being. BUT from a pure baseball standpoint, which is mostly what I care about, this needed to happen.

This season wasn't all his fault because i feel most of the moves made are in conjuction with Shatkins but we need a Manager who is taken more seriously and gets listened to when he speaks like a true leader. From the outside, felt like the players run the clubhouse and enough of that crap.

I’d like this front office to pay more attention to performance.

Missed the game, what happened between Vlad and Montoyo last night?

Vlad f***ed up and made an error with his foot placement on a play at 1st. He was signaling to the dugout not to challenge the call but they still did and it cost them. Next two innings there were 2 plays that they could have challenged that would have been overturned. Vladdy was visibly upset after the 1st challenge failed when he told them not to.

I am sincerely shocked, not disappointed, but shocked. Shatkins must be feeling some pressure from above.

It must be all that media pressure that Barker and Blair put on him.

Never thought this day would come. Truly thought Chuckles was cemented into his role as cheerleader for the foreseeable future. Atta boy Shapiro nice alpha move

I was expecting him to be fired if they missed the playoffs. I suppose they don’t want it to get to that point. Nice.

Definitely buyers at the deadline

One upside of this is that you only get to fire so many managers. So, maybe if we tank to the end of the season we might get some changes in the FO.

I’m not saying it’s the pitching coaches problem. I’m saying pitching is the problem and the manager is way down the list of people who could be responsible for that.

Ah - that's not really what you wrote, but if that's what you meant than OK. You said you're surprised the pitching coach wasn't fired because that's been the problem....haha. All good.

Montoyo will be back working in the Rays org in no time. He's never going to be a manager again, but he'll still be in baseball, I'm sure.

Can’t wait for all the juicy drama to come out over the next few days/weeks

Already started - Mariners' fans taking credit for breaking the Jays and getting Montoyo fired, lol

Yea, I didn’t write it very clearly. Sorry about that.

They can have credit, however CM's in game decisions is what got him fired.

The Jays would have to miss the playoffs entirely for Schneider not to be named the full time manager after this season, IMO. Seems like more of a formality, but I guess we will see. The last time the Jays were looking for a manager it was in a season where they were expecting to tank hard after being bad for 2 straight years. The job should be a lot more attractive now than it was then, so hopefully they do an actual search at the end of the season. Maybe Schneider ends up being the right call regardless. We will see.

Can we make a list of players who are that affected by their manager not being rah rah that they forget that performance = money and not re-sign them.
