Yep, probably never see "smallgio" on here again

Of course we will, every single time he has an 0 for 4 or something, the JF54 type posters will be all over him with that.

Bo, Teo, Vlad, and Kirk are all studs that aren’t deserving of demeaning names. Crapia for Tapia seems warranted. Once you use that though, you can’t just use the same thing for Chapman. So work up something else for him

Tapia will never not be Tilapia.

When he came off DL last year same thing. Rinse and repeat

Biggio was barely ever fully healthy last season starting right from spring training. He recently stated that he feels the best physically that he's felt in years. The Bison's coaching staff has a long history of completely turning around the fortunes of struggling Jays hitters in the past, including Teo, Gurriel and Jansen, so hopefully the extra time in Buffalo had the same effect for Biggio. The early returns are very promising as he is having great at bats, leveraging elite plate discipline and making a lot of hard contact.

I actually like his nicknames on here given the immense swag he displays in game. Rocket Raimel and Skinny Predator/Skinny P are great.

For the record I want it known that I dubbed him Skinny Predator and reserve all rights with the aforementioned moniker should it become a marketable super hero franchise in the future.

The same applies to The Silver Fox for Trevor Richards.

Book kind of still out on those other names just like Biggio. Outside of Teo, who’s a stud. I was onboard the T-train when most were throwing his name out for middling SP bait. Lourdes I’ve always liked but it’s starting to become questionable what he is. DJ and Biggio I believe I’ve covered enough:)

Gurriel continues to be MLB's streakiest hitter. He at least was able to tread water this year during his down times at the plate compared to previous seasons. The newfound plate discipline is so out of character for him it seems as though a switch may have flipped for him. It's still a very small sample size but if he can continue to make good swing decisions like he has recently the sky is the limit offensively given the quality of his hit tool. We can only hope that Bo would also see the light and rein in some of the excessive aggressiveness at the plate, but that's unlikely to happen. Jansen's power surge looks legit to me. He also displays very good plate discipline, so if the home run surge continues I think he is going to start accumulating a lot of walks as he will be pitched very carefully.

Pretty sure we were saying this about Grichuk too.

Idk, I think we know what Gurriel is at this point. An extremely streaky hitter with a career 115 wRC+ and a cannon arm in LF

Also somewhat concerning for Gurriel is he's completely lost the homerun power he had.... similar to Grichuk again

For Gurriel, there was a discussion earlier on the broadcast that Martinez told him to move away from the plate a bit more - this improved his pitch recognition but the trade-off was power as his swing became way too long to connect to many pitches middle to away of the plate. Better pitch recognition (less Ks) + slap-hitting (more-so recently than early on in the season when he was still trying to hit for power and failing) has become his new thing.

I disagree that we have a true gauge on Gurriel at this point. He is still evolving and improving as a major league player. Something to keep in mind is that he missed a lot of time early on during his Jays minor league tenure, and as a result only has a total of 543 total games in North American professional baseball, or basically only 4 full seasons worth. Randal Grichuk for comparisons sake has played 927 games in MLB alone so we have a lot more data to rely on regarding his likely potential.

Within the last year Gurriel has improved tremendously as a defender, to the point where he has become a quality defender in left field despite looking like a little leaguer out there as recently as last season. He presently is sporting the best walk and strikeout rates of his major league career as well. I suspect the power is going to return eventually once he starts barreling up baseballs a bit more. His 3.8% homerun/flyball percentage is a long ways off of his career value of 16% and seems unlikely to stay that low. It's certainly possible that this is nothing more than a typical Gurriel hot streak and he continues to be a slightly above average offensive performer, but I can't recall him ever displaying the type of plate discipline that he has shown recently. Over the last two weeks he has been swinging at only 20.8% of pitches outside of the strike zone vs 33% for his career, hopefully he can keep this up.

I think there’s still a wide range of outcomes for LG but seems the high-end projections are fading away; or almost gone

Well it's either broken or it's not and apparently it's not so he's fine. It's not like a tweaked hammy where he could make it worse.

Not really. Sometimes guys stay in and later on they do an MRI and see some metacarpal tendon doesn’t look right and it’s 4-6 weeks or something. Hopefully not the case here

Absolutely nailed it.

You were right! I blame our fat trainer for clearing him to play. What the hell does he know about health and fitness anyway? Bummer to lose Jano like that he's been playing so well.

TBH it’s happened multiple times at this point (player stays in the game and ends up going on the DL after the game) that maybe we should look into finding a new athletic trainer.

But honestly yeah, having a fat/obese trainer is like having vegan chef.

Jansen was f***ed up, you could see his hand and finger trembling when they were testing him.

The problem is Danny Jansen is a huge alpha chad so when he says he wants to keep playing what is Bongos supposed to do? Boss him around? Lmao as if

I could be wrong about this (and I probably am) but I think the trembling is actually the trainer shaking/pulsating that area during their assessment.

I feel like I've seen that same type of trembling on several of their injury checks.

Also the other trainer has a second head growing out of his forehead! How can you take these guys seriously!?
