glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Never thought I'd miss Reese on April 12, but here we are.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Kirk ain't catching. That was my thought. How closely are you watching the game when you don't realize Kirk is Dhing and Kirk has an accurate arm.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Never thought I'd miss Reese on April 12, but here we are. The McGuire trade sure is puzzling.
BuckHenry Verified Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 I doubt if Montoya could run a whore house properly … why are some of these scrubs playing all the time … however some of our AllStars aren’t doing much better .
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Quite a decision to have this guy catching....
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Kirk ain't catching. Why the f*** not
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 It still baffles me that we are rotating catchers through DH instead of Biggio who can at least take walks to get on base. LET THE MAN HIT!
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Well, Kikuchi was better than Berrios and Ryu. Against a better team too
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Why the f*** not Because he caught yesterday, and he will likely catch 3 or 4 out of every 5 games. He did extremely well defensively yesterday as well, but as you pointed out he's fat, so you have to give him a rest every now and then.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 The McGuire trade sure is puzzling. McGuire had no options left, but that's still a puzzling move.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Author Posted April 13, 2022 Yeah and that data shows he's been fine and projects to be even better. But you know more than Ross Atkins I guess. yOu kNoW mOrE tHaN aTkInS i GuEsS Yeah, baseball front offices are totally infallible and can't make obvious mistakes. Joe Panik definitely didn't get 141 plate appearances with the Blue Jays last year.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 We need Moreno in the mix big time. well he's only played his first game of the season tonight and he won't come up until that 7th year is locked in. May 1ish? It all depends on how long Danny is out. Obliques can be tricky so if he's out an extended period we could well see Moreno.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 84 pitches for 3.1 IP. Not good enough, Kooch.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Best man up to get us a run here, lets hope.

Joe Panik definitely didn't get 141 plate appearances with the Blue Jays last year. The 3rd year was definitely risky, but maybe they think he can be a valuable bullpen arm as a fallback if he fails as a starter. 12 mil for a solid lefty reliever isn’t outrageous
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 84 pitches for 3.1 IP. Not good enough, Kooch. Didn't see much swing and miss there, he's not going to be efficient
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Nasty Nestor is out. Time to go to work.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 feels like Biggio should be batting if we're using a pinch hitter.
bzapple Verified Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Uh oh looks like Zack Collins might actually do some catching
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 just close your eyes and swing buddy
BuckHenry Verified Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 How about pinch hitting Biggio and they can still put in Collins ?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Heineman and Collins suck at baseball
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Didn't see much swing and miss there, he's not going to be efficient No. Deep counts. Frustrating guy to watch. Same as last year. Makes me realize once again what a steal of found money Matz was last year for a 5th. Also I hate Collins.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 There was no doubt Collins was going to K. I don't get not using Biggio. Probably the same result. Holmes is a tough pitcher, but still. Biggio had a nice spring. He's had 5 Plate appearances spread across 3 games. Espinal is playing out of his mind, so I get playing him over Biggio, but there was no reason for Collins to DH last night and he should have got the pinch hit last inning.

Joe Panik definitely didn't get 141 plate appearances with the Blue Jays last year. It was definitely risky (as most FA signings are) but Matz got the same AAV and an extra year. Just kind of the going price for a back of the rotation 2 WAR starter. The statcast data on his pitch movement and velocity as well as his projections all look good and it seems like Atkins has been on him for a while which makes me think he can unlock an extra gear from him. You're right, GM's aren't infallible but it seems like Atkins earned the benefit of the doubt for me. Time will tell! Cheers
