Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 I don't have a problem with losing a game, I have a big problem with losing games they're leading 6-1. No less because a pitcher I've repeatedly said was crap proved himself to be crap once again. When are these teams going to learn not to sign players to long term contracts based off of 1 good season? At least they did the right thing with Semien he'll never have another year anything like last year the Rangers can eat that mistake If you think Ryu only had 1 good season before the Jays signed him, you need to get your eyes checked. Or your head. Probably your head.
Signal Verified Member Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 I would like to see the report card on this ump this afternoon. That game became almost unwatchable given his impact on the game.

I didn't get to watch, but Ben Wagner was just ripping on him the entire broadcast and he doesn't usually do that. Ryu always has trouble when the umpiring is poor.

Ryu always has trouble when the umpiring is poor. Ryu was not getting any close calls. Especially with some pitches at the knees/low in the zone, nothing called his way. Around the 5th inning the Ump started giving lefties a bunch of calls outside the zone on their arm side

Probably your head. Hey! Nasty guy. It is what he has done since he arrived in Toronto. Ryu (since he arrived) is basically a 3 inning pitcher. Maybe you should clear your head bud.

Scion Verified Member Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 If you look around the league alot of good SP are getting shelled in their first start. This is probably to be expected following a shorter spring training. As others have said this is not something to overreact to until we have a larger sample size to draw him.

Ryu is still drawing on last years sample size though
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 Gausman and Berrios I'm not worried about. Ryu I am worried about, he was very bad the last half of last season. And if a soft tosser isn't perfect he's ripe for the picking.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 Ryu is still drawing on last years sample size though Sure, maybe. But Ryu was great for the first 2 months last season and he looked great today until that 4th inning. I don’t think he’ll be as bad as last year but I don’t think he’ll be as good as 2020. Probably still manages a sub 4 ERA though

He's their 4th best SP (probably) - they just need him to be okay. An ERA between 4 and 4.5 would be acceptable as long as he's in most games and he stays mostly healthy. I would actually love a repeat of 2021 on the aggregate (but not the horrible August+September of course; just the end of season numbers).
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 Im sick of people who think you have to win every game. Playoff teams still lose 60+ games bro. Every team has their problems. The Brewers “elite” rotation has looked bad so far Yeah, not like one game can make a difference as to whether or not we get into the playoffs.

Here ya go, and spoiler alert: Oh s***, that wasn't even yesterday, it was the day before At least I'm not wrong that the umpiring has been brutal all year.

At least they did the right thing with Semien he'll never have another year anything like last year the Rangers can eat that mistake Yay more stupid s*** from JimboFelix666. Ryu had one good season before signing? Just wondering what your criteria is for a good season as Ryu had WARS of 4.9, 4.0, 3.9, and another which would have averaged out to about 4 WAR over a full season of starts. Over his Blue Jays tenure he's obviously been trending in the wrong direction but still has decent overall numbers with a FIP of 3.77 and 4.3 WAR over 44 starts. I know this goes beyond your obviously limited level of understanding but a few bad months does not mean the entire time he's been a Jay has been bad. What makes you so sure Semien doesn't have more good years in him? He had a monster near MVP season in 2019, followed by an injury plagued 2020 and another near MVP level season in 2021. I know you're big on narrative without using logic or any kind of numbers to back up your hot takes but I still figured I would challenge you to actually discuss your opinions like somebody with an ounce of baseball acumen rather than somebody who forms your opinions based on Steve Simmons articles. I fully expect you to simply puff out your chest about how you speak the truth rather than a coherent debate though.

Yeah I noticed straight away this was for Saturday which wasn't nearly as big an issue as the s*** umpiring from yesterday.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 It's going to be chilly tonight. Around 11 celsius with winds blowing 8 Mph from right to left field.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 They just posted the one from yesterday... Yeah, it's also just brutal Holy s*** 81% called strike accuracy, that's absolutely brutal. But somehow Fletcher was even worse on Saturday.

I think Sunday was definitely worse. Almost a run and a half gifted to Texas, and all 3 of the worst calls were against the Jays. Feels good to be validated because that ump seemed f***ing awful

Feels good to be validated because that ump seemed f***ing awful I'm definitely not stating that the overall ump performance was worse on Saturday, simply remarking how the called strike accuracy managed to be worse than the paltry 81% accuracy on Sunday. With a proper umpiring performance who knows how Sunday's game ends up.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 They just posted the one from yesterday... Yeah, it's also just brutal You may see Ryu finish the 5th with 2 runs or something if the calls are made properly. A lot of ground balls found their way through holes a well. He looked alright, but dealt with a shitstorm of bad luck.

Ball bounces off his leg and goes right in the hole in the infield, probably the furthest it possibly could have gone away from the nearest infielder. Frustrating as hell.

By no means was he great of course, but so many calls that could have gone his way didn't, and when you force the soft tossers to throw meatballs to get stirke calls, they get hit around. I didn;t really see a problem with Jansen's framing either. That many missed calls is just an umpire that has very obvious holes in how he calls balls and strikes.
BuckHenry Verified Member Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 I thought the umping was brutal on Friday, Saturday and Sunday…. actually every game it got worse …. besides that though ; Texas earned the game Sunday … just barreled down and outhit us … they are a pretty good team . Taking 2/3 from them is not too shabby .
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
