Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2022 Posted September 30, 2022 I actually like a lot of his analysis. He was breaking down economic value of hosting the wildcard = not much. He was telling the story on the owner demanding he signed Stanton, and how that went down. As in "whats your number?" Number given. Answer "done". The Berrios comment I hope to f*** he is just being a shock jock on. Guy sure has high praise for Shapiro. Which ep of the podcast was this?
Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 30, 2022 Posted September 30, 2022 Bring up Pearson and piggyback him to Mitch White's next start. Why not. On the one hand, Pearson is such an unknown. Even when he's been healthy, he's up and down and there isn't enough time to really take a look at him this year. On the other hand, if our pen is on fumes and we need some real gas, it's nice to have that arm to go to and take your chances with. Besides, if he's ever going to be a key contributor to this team, you need to throw him into these situations. But who would he replace? Pop? I guess, but Pop is good when we need ground balls or to keep dangerous hitters in the ball park. I won't blame Jays management either way on the Pearson decision.
CBlake Verified Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 If first place is wrapped by Tuesday , in my eyes Kikuchi gets the final game start. Let him eat up some innings and keep the bullpen to a nor al works load.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Author Posted October 1, 2022 Whit Merrifield looks more like his regular all-star version with every passing game. Castillo hasn't done much in KC, but is still young.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 I might be getting old but I find the celebration with 6 teams making the playoffs to be lame now lol.

I kinda agree, but still its hard to not smile watching the celebrations. I’m happy for them. Hope they continue playing well and can make it deeper into October

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 So if the Jays end up hosting the wild card games what time are the games going to start? I would assume the early games, is there any indication at what time those will be?
CBlake Verified Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 So if the Jays end up hosting the wild card games what time are the games going to start? Really will depend on who they are playing, there is no way it would be the earliest game if it's against the Mariners, thus having in at 9:30/10 am on the west coast. As of right now all the wild card games will be east/central time with two west-coast in the mix, so it will be interesting.

CBlake Verified Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 I would guess the start time would be somewhere between 12pm and 4pm In 2020 the four AL Wild Card game times were 2, 3, 5 and 7 pm eastern. The 3 pm game was at Oakland, so noon locally. If it goes along this line I would think it will be 3 pm for the Jays. Based on the current match ups as of today, I predict Ray at Indians 2 pm, Mariners at Blue Jays 3 pm, Phillies at Cardinals 5 pm and Padres at Mets 7 pm. Could see a few adjustments based on broadcast desires.

I guess we will see in a few days
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Author Posted October 1, 2022 Whatever time is the least desirable in terms of television ratings is when the Jays will play. Dan Shulman said as much during the broadcast.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Canadian viewers don't count towards ESPN's ratings, and the Jays don't have Ohtani or Judge or someone that ESPN can market to US audiences (Vlad isn't there yet), so they are not going to prioritize the Jays when filling out the time slots. If it's Jays/Tampa, then prepare for a 12:30 pm EST timeslot. If it's Jays/Mariners, then one would think they'll at least throw a bone to Seattle fans and start it at 3:30-4 PM EST (at the earliest) so it's a reasonable time on the west coast. If the Mets have to play in the WC round, then NY is definitely going to get the prime time slot given its market size. Then on the other side they'll have Pujols in St. Louis, so that will get attention too. It's the AL games that are going to be a bore for most of America since it will involve a Canadian team, two smaller market teams that can barely get 10k into their own stadiums, and the Mariners who if J-Rod plays might be the only team that a national audience in the US would care about given how long of a drought they had. The AL games are going to get the s*** time slots.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Jays will get the less desirable time for sure. I'm sure the game on Friday, so many tickets will be available on StubHub less than the Blue Jays box office if it's a 12:30PM start time.

I would generally agree, but don’t forget that first Jays/Tampa game in 2020 was at 7pm so you never know
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 I think we would all respect and applaud this decision by Buck. He's had a good run. Time to focus on his family and his health and let someone take the torch and introduce fans to the way the game is played today.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 This is a good move for everyone. Buck gets to focus on his health, and fans don't have to listen to baseball talk from 50 years ago like it's still relevant. Win/Win.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Buck is a really nice guy and always has been great with fans! Bumped into him in the elevator at the Ritz Carlton in Philly when the Jays were in town, saw we were from Toronto and he initiated conversation with me and my friend for the entire ride down. Wish him and his family all the best moving forward. He was a class act.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Yeah but there were only two wildcard matches correct? Now there are 4 total (2 in the AL and 2 in the NL). Nope it was 4 games that day. 2020 playoff schedule on September 29th: (All times in EST) Houston @ Minnesota - 2pm Whitesox @ Oakland - 3pm Jays @ Rays - 5pm Yankees @ Indians - 7pm
BCZ Verified Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 <3 Danny boy. Best hitter on the team right now, statistically speaking.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Never have seen the sustained offensive production from the C position that we have had in '22 in the history of the Jays. Jano's incredible season has been under the radar.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Author Posted October 2, 2022 The league's top 2 catchers in terms of wRC+ are Danny Jansen and Alejandro Kirk.
Masterbather Verified Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 The league's top 2 catchers in terms of wRC+ are Danny Jansen and Alejandro Kirk. It's hard to know how much having each other benefits both of them. How many catchers of their caliber get to enjoy split playing time behind the plate? Keeps them both relatively fresh.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 The league's top 2 catchers in terms of wRC+ are Danny Jansen and Alejandro Kirk. Pretty amazing. Best production at C we ever seen as Jays fans in their history. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy than Jano. He has battled injuries and poor offensive performance. I shared before, he volunteered to do a 2 day ball camp with my son's group in Jan of 2019. Nicest most easy going pro athlete I've ever met. Shared how much he picked up from Luke Maile. Without slagging Martin he was pretty clear who helped him the most. There was only 7 kids in the camp, so it was really interesting spending that much time with a guy chatting about catching some of the top guys on the planet. Lets hope he can keep it rolling. I'll never forget watching Borders win the MVP of the 92 World Series.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Playing both catchers at the same time has been the team's best lineup all season but we very rarely see Jansen DH'ing. Hopefully when Kirk catches Manoah in the playoffs, Jansen is at DH. There's really no excuse to not run that lineup for all 3 of the WC games and hopefully into a deeper playoff run. Only exception would be if Springer can't play the OF, but let's cross our fingers and hope he stays healthy from now until Friday.
