Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 It's a damn shame we aren't playing better. We'd be within striking distance of the Yanks if we weren't completely s***ing the bed the past couple of weeks. Could have been a historic division comeback even greater than 2015. Ah well, wasn’t meant to be
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 As of May 10th, he has a 116 wRC+ and a .305/.329/.445 slash line. His defensive metrics are awful, but they are playing him out of position when he plays CF and defensive metrics are always a bit fickle...but he's earned playing time with his bat after a horrible start to the year. Tapia's No. 1 fan right here!
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 I'm angry about their non contributions because of health reasons when we could ha e really used them This remains to be seen?

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 This team is f***ed. I keep waiting for them to pull it all together, and just when it looks like they might pull away in the WC race, they turn into a bunch of f***ing useless losers again.

I keep waiting for them to pull it all together, and just when it looks like they might pull away in the WC race, they turn into a bunch of f***ing useless losers again. Its too bad. They are just good-not good enough. Perceived under performance or performance expectations were too high. Big money signings that haven't worked out - dead money or under expected performance. Glaring holes being glaring. Too RH'ed. Lack of contributing depth. Pen issues. Even though they have stayed relatively healthy. Anyone who expected a full season of Springer was overly optimistic. With the Braves winning last year some people clinging to "just get in and get hot at the right time". Sure. Thats possible not probable with the talent that will be faced. Even death row inmates have the feint hope clause to lean on.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 When did you become such a doomer? Thought you were smarter than this Smarter? Its just probabilities. If you want to have rose colored glasses on last season and this one, be my guest. Been a hard core fan of this team since the 80's. Always will be. Doesn't mean I'm going to be unrealistic. I didn't set the expectations for this team or say last year was the trailer and this year would be the movie. In that list what isnt accurate so far? Can it change over last part of season? Yes. Likely? Not really.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 Always love when a team is underperforming to expectations and fans inevitably start to bitch about it, that they get jumped on by other fans for it. Of course the natives are getting restless, this team has been an unbelievably inconsistent mess this season. f***ing frustrating. I mean, when dolts like Juniorf***face or whatever his name was are on here bitching constantly, that's different. Those types of knobs need to be roasted. With them it's never positive, always negative. The good news is, despite this teams inconsistency they are still positioned well, and one solid hot streak will have them playoff bound, and in the playoffs Yusei Kikuchi can go f*** himself in the club house while never getting near the mound.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 Just realized Pop can throw 99 with crazy movement.
M.E. Verified Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 My expectation is they drop out of the wildcard spots over the next week and then make a furious run to get the last wildcard. Now this is where I put on my homer glasses. Because they were so hot to get in they sweep through the playoffs (Rockies style from a bunch of years ago) and make the WS.

MikeM3 Verified Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 Just realized Pop can throw 99 with crazy movement. He almost literally gets no swing and miss in the zone. As soon as his velo dips it will be batting practice.
polar bear Verified Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 Why? Those guys healthy could be huge. LOL !!
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 He almost literally gets no swing and miss in the zone. As soon as his velo dips it will be batting practice. Great point. History shows us that no pitcher with lots of velocity ever improves as they reach their prime. This FO is f***ing useless! Please for the love of god - post here more please sir.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 https://www.fangraphs.com/standings/playoff-odds It is maddening that they're playing so poorly right now the Yankees have been slipping up for weeks on end right now
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 He almost literally gets no swing and miss in the zone. As soon as his velo dips it will be batting practice. And yet he's never had issues in the majors or minors giving up hard contact. He's also a 25 year old reliever, why on earth would anyone expect his velo to dip any time soon? Julian Merryweather is 30 and made of glass and yet his velocity has never decreased. Even SP and injury risk Ryu barely saw his velocity dip into his 30s, but 25 year old RP Zach Pop will and suddenly become BP, sure.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 Guys, guys - don't make fun of the Mike Wilner Bronies group (MikeM3, Jays333, terpfan99, JFD, 5ToolPhenom, jaysblue, etc.). Highly intelligent Jays fans need a place to vent about this team and we can't expect them to put together logical, fact based arguments when they are in this state of mind.

His slider rates well on fancy metrics, just can't control it. I could see him harnessing that one offseason and becoming a very different reliever.

For all we know Pop could change his training program and come back next year throwing HARDER.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 Going to the game tonight. First time at the Dome in over a decade. Not super thrilled that it's a Kikuchi start, but maybe he'll have one of those ones where he's actually sharp. Also, it would be super nice if the bats f***ing show up (I've heard Springer may be active tonight, so that's good...) Whelp...
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 Whelp... I hope you're happy with yourself.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 I hope you're happy with yourself. Don't worry, the odds of me going to another game in the NEXT decade are pretty slim...

Facts are literally completely on my side regarding zone contact %. Please show me a good reliever with that number or a reliever that even exists! 23% CSW! He's basically Alex Colome.

Aren't we allowed to be critical and question some decisions made by this organization or any other organization for that matter? I know some posters overreact and vent way too much in the GDT threads, though some of us actually have been rational and logical in our criticism and observations of the Blue Jays this season. You on the other hand have blinkers on when discussing this team. You're probably the biggest homer on this board reaching Mike Wilner levels and you never are open to considering other possibilities or accepting logical criticism. To be honest its quite annoying.
