Cbert Verified Member Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Something to remember from 2015, as well, is that we not only made up those 8 games but finished 6 up on the Yankees. Obviously not the same teams caliber-wise as now, but making up 6 this month and 6 next month isn’t insurmountable. Really hoping it goes down to the wire!
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Interesting twitter thread. I posted a similar theory in a different thread that Bo seems to be sitting off speed instead of hunting fastballs. He has been rather abysmal doing damage on fastballs this season in particular. Aside from his loud debut season he never really did a ton of damage on fastballs anyway, but it's turned into a rather pronounced weakness in 2022. There's far too many times he's been fouling back fastballs in the middle of the plate which indicates he's late getting to these pitches. For a guy with a bat as quick as his this just shouldn't be happening so frequently.

It all seems rather indicative of someone who's trying to improve his patience at the plate and to reduce his O-Swing % (which he's done this year). Hopefully he finds the right balance.

I can't help but wonder if Dante Bichette's let the ball travel philosophy may have done more harm than good when it comes to Bo's (and possibly Vlad as well) results at the plate. For such young hitters they may be better off to sit fastball and adjust to offspeed as needed.

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Santiago Espinal is now playing worse than he did last year, in almost every way. So much for the new Espinal...

Feels like it’s been quite some time now that it’s been only his defense that’s effective. Whit Merrifield may have been a more important acquisition than I initially thought.

Whit Merrifield may have been a more important acquisition than I initially thought. It sucks. He looked so good in the first couple of months. Came in all jacked up, smoking baseballs, looking like a 15 HR infielder all of a sudden. Turns out he just made himself slower and he's a hacker now, with a barely noticeable uptick in power. Sigh. Anyone else notice all year that he runs funny now? Very unnatural, like his legs are too stiff or heavy.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 That's All Star Espinal to you. All Star Michael Saunders approves this message lol
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Get used to riding pine Espinal! You suck dude!

A guy on my softball team was yelling that we should trade Bo and make Espy the SS. Was trying to tell him maybe pump the brakes on that one lol.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Trevor Richards is back He’s been good other than that Pujols homerun
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Trevor Richards is back That’s why you can’t give up on him. His changeup is disgusting when he locates his fastball. That’s been the biggest issue compared to last year. He pitched way more effectively up in the strikezone last season. And his numbers are inflated due to some horrendous outings. But all the other numbers you look for in a great relief option are there. Hes the kind of guy that could be one of the best relievers in Baseball the first half and wouldn’t shock me at all. I just hope it’s with us not elsewhere

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Trevor Richards is back Why are we putting suspicious quotes around neck strain lol. Maybe he was playing kind of injured and that's why he was s*** before.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Another accolade for Romano! Go team!!
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Another accolade for Romano! This has much do with the stupid extra innings rule as anything else.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Also I just realized Mitch “f***ing” White isn’t even on the MLB Roster. He was optioned and placed on the Taxi Squad lol. f*** I hate that trade.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 He'll be activated today, dummy. They used the extra roster space like they should. Nah f*** Mitch White. Organizationally we came out with less swing and miss post trade deadline and it’s comical.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 (edited) Nah f*** Mitch White. Organizationally we came out with less swing and miss post trade deadline and it’s comical. Dumn. A+ hitters will swing at s*** MLB hitters won't even sniff, Bo Bichette aside. Mitch White struck out 11.41/9 as a 22 yr old in A+. Frasso a bit higher but don't forget MiLB has been contracted, so the overall level of talent in A+ today is less than it was when Mitch White pitched in A+. Edited August 6, 2022 by Jimcanuck

Tbh, Stripling's a FA and he'll probably get paid the way he is pitching this year. Mitch White is our new Stripling moving forward Edited August 6, 2022 by Solaxys
