JFD Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 Vlad should focus on barreling everything to right field until pitchers are afraid to pitch him away
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 At what point can we admit Berrios is a huge disappointment. For this season. Holy s*** with the sunshine up the ass crew. He’s been putrid

He’s been putrid He’s definitely been bad. Looking at his entire body of work, he should be a lot better than this. Even last season he was pretty good for us, especially down the stretch vs the Yankees. Massive disappointment so far this year. Hope turns it around soon. I don’t expect him to be this bad going forward

He wasn’t an Ace. But it was pretty safe to say he was going to pitch atleast like #3 the next 5 seasons. A lot ot his numbers jump out of you for being historically bad but he’s just not missing bats the way he has in the past.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 Ground ball rate down 10%, lowest Swst% of his career, highest EV and most barrels ever. All of this in the midst of the worst hitting environment he’s pitched in. Weird. I don’t know why he sucks right now but hopefully we get a second half Berrios that lowers his ERA to the career norm of 4.00

I think I looked two weeks ago and couldn't find anything obvious. Velo and movement all seem normal. I guess his command could just be off but that still makes you ask why.

I haven't looked into it much Maybe something is his delivery changed, maybe he knows his wife is banging some other guy. He just sucks rn. Its up to the people getting paid to fix it to figure it out. But if there was an obvious solution, he wouldn’t be still dropping feces on field regularly
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 Tipping pitches possibly, but most likely its location / command.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 Was poking around the Bisons pitching stats, and I'm wondering when does Jeremy Beasley get another kick at the can with the Jays? He seems to have gotten a handle on his control issues with a 2.7 BB/9 and is still sporting a 10.46 K/9 with a 1.01 ERA / 3.02 FIP in 26.2 innings.

I had made the same observation how he looks to have ironed out his command issues. He looks to be serving as a multi inning reliever which would likely be of great use. Merryweather is a prime candidate to be sent back down to AAA given how ineffective he's been.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 Captain Kirk all of a sudden a 116 wRC+ and enhanced D value if he is needed for a deal. 8.9% K rate. Tattoo even scored 4 runs last night. Speed!
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 Berrios is no ace, but can be a solid No. 2/3 with a little more jazz. Wish he could get his K/9 up and I wouldn't be too worried. If he can do what AJ Burnett did here over his contract, I'll be happy!
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 Long season folks. There are other pitchers out there underperforming expectations. The lower FB velocity may simply be an adjustment to try and get better command and build from there.

If Berrios was like 34 or 35, would worry a bit, though he's still only 28. As long as he's healthy and there is no underlying health concern with his elbow or shoulder, I think he'll make the adjustments.

That’s what I’m concerned with in regards is velo being down in ideal conditions yesterday
