Wouldn't Espinal make more sense batting lead off rather than Chapman? Maybe Chapman has good career numbers vs Yarborough.

That seems to be the logic behind it.

I'm pretty excited to have Jansen back. Takes the pressure off Kirk so maybe he can focus on his hitting. Should help some of the pitchers a lot as Jansen just outclasses Kirk and Collins on D. And Jansen's bat looks interesting this year.

Collins filled in admirably and as long as he's on the roster having a left handed pinch hit option with pop is nice

So there are some downstream effects. Having him back and productive could help in a couple other ways

Who had Espinal leading the team in fWAR with 1.2 by mid-May? Very cool.

Gausman has double that.

But if you mean strictly offensive players…I think we all did. Vlad who?

This autopsy in the media about the Brett Gardner signing attempt is annoying. I do not want Brett Gardner for any million.

Surely we can do better in adding depth on a team that wants to win the WS.

Best lineup of the year for today's game. Vladdy finally hitting second is what I desperately wanted.

Yeah

How many games have been lost with Vladdy waiting on deck?

Well if he isnt full of s*** then thats the first thing I can say I am really impressed with Gardner for doing. We dodged a bullet there.

What's a little concerning is that Shatkins actually made the offer.

0 runs merp.

This team is frustrating to watch right now

Vlad hasn’t really been hitting much the past couple weeks anyways, does it even matter?

Yes it does, he hasn't been last years Vlad yet, but he's on a 12/13 game hit streak and still hit well above average in the last 2 weeks, that's silly, the more AB's the better.

This is true. He’s clearly off right now (this hitting streak includes more than a few ground ball singles) but he’s still the best hitter on the team.

Lets see how long he lasts in the 2 hole this time

Springer, LGJ, Chapman and Tapia have been black-holes in this time frame... like WOOF, bad. I love Vlad in the 2 hole. These f***ers need to get it together like, yesterday. :(

I know it doesn't seem like he's been his normal self, but he has a 132 wRC+ in the past 2 weeks. What's weird is that he only has 3 extra base hits in that time.

Strikes me as so indicative of our offensive woes to lose at the Trop yesterday on an inning set up by 2 LHH (Lowe & Franco) who flicked soft singles away on 2 good pitches away by Manaoh. Then an E by our best defender who has been great. Boom 3-0. A lead which seems insurmountable these days.

While we celebrate EV, and for good reason, sometimes you just have to take what the pitchers are giving you for the scoreboard sake.

Seriously how does Jeffrey Springs shut down Toronto's offense?

The Jays hitters are all headcases right now. They need multiple sports psychologists.

Things are so weird. Is it possible the ball is not only dead but wildly inconsistent?

Vlad hit 3 line drives yesterday, all with EVs of around 95. On TV all looked squared up. Maybe he's just missing them and it's hard to tell on TV? Manoah said something about balls being inconsistent and some feeling squishy.

Or maybe in some stadiums balls are humidored too much? Like maybe the Rays are doing this on purpose and they know it. An exit velocity approach is a fools errand against highly humidor treated balls. lol. Not that I know much about this.

What happens if you put a ball in a humidor and crank up the settings? Could a clever team use this to their advantage? Let the other team hit drives that will go no where, while they know it's a fools errand so just try to slap singles the other way?

Its a possibility. MLB should be policing/enforcing a set humidity rate but I wouldn’t be surprised if they haven’t been monitoring it. We already know the league is extremely inept.

I have a feeling the whole humidor thing was rolled out in the first place so that MLB can tweak the humidity settings throughout the season and bump offense up or down on command.

The question is, are they even policing the humidor settings in each stadium? Is this the Umpire’s job, or the equipment manager? If its the latter… we already know teams cheat in convoluted ways

Can you imagine a football changing from year to year and in some years a QB can only throw it 40 yards, and in others 60? Or a basketball that bounces differently from year to year...

I don’t know about this whole ball thing.

These are some of the scores from Sunday’s games.

Cardinals 15 -6 over the Giants

Astros 8-0 over the Nationals

Padres 7-3 over the Braves

Mariners 8-7 over the Mets

Brewers 7-3 over the Marlins

Rangers 7-1 over the Red sox

Tigers 5-1 over the Orioles

Yankees 5-1 over the White Sox

Maybe it is us and not all the other reasons thrown around here as to why we are losing.

It's most likely both. We suck, and the ball sucks.

Starting to see more high scoring games. Even the Dodgers/Phillies series was very high scoring for the first two games.

Also, most bats who had awful starts are starting to come around over their last 6 or 7 games. I've noticed that from even just reading fantasy notes on Fantrax haha.

The Jays are just stuck in a rut right now. Losing 3 of 4 in Cleveland, the Yankees and playing at the Trop. Tampa can throw out at any arm and shut down the Jays bats.

Hoping with the Jays back at home, playing against the Mariners, they can get their bats rolling.

We are actually completely average in terms of American League hitting. Mid pack in everything.

Scores were a tad higher one day. Overall AL average hitter is .230 .300 .368 or so... overall NL hitter is .237 .313 .383, which is a little better.

Who controls the balls? If they home team does, it's super easy to pick and choose which balls go out for the home team and which for the away team.

Not suggesting this is happening, just wondering aloud who even watches this?
