"pressing" is a real thing some players do, you can see it in the numbers when you look at players who are traded or sign with new teams. they often do things like increase their o-swing% for a period of time. I think some teams actually factor this into their analysis - like if trading for Nick Castellanos on paper might by a 1 win upgrade you might assume he will underperform projections a bit because he is likely to press a bit in his new uniform.

I could see why a middle of the order hitter might start "pressing" a bit if the guy hitting behind them is RAIMEL f***ING TAPIA WHICH HAS LITERALLY HAPPENED WHAT THE f***ING f***!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean, thereÂ’s nothing in there that negates my logic if you put some thought into it.

Well, there is zero chance they are going to pitch Vlad any differently depending on whos behind him. They've got stats on how Vlad hits every pitch type and location and are going to be using that book.

Perhaps your point is that even though they pitch Vlad the same, Vlad will be more relaxed with Teo there, and have a better approach, thus better results.

If the latter is true that speaks really poorly of the Jays organization. Shouldn't he be mentally prepared for every at bat no matter who is behind him?

If what you are saying is true, guys can have a 'good' state of mind, and a bad state of mind, and something as simple as who else is in the lineup will change their approach. However in that case shouldn't the organization identify this, and work with them to make sure they are always in a great state of mind?

OK. So last year Teo was injured around the same time. Actually he had the Covid-19 virus.

Vlad had combinations of struggling Rowdy Tellez, Joe Panic, Cavan Biggio, and (at the time) a struggling Semien behind him.

I mean, OK. Maybe those guys are better than what he has now, but he was hitting great while Hernandez was gone.

So Vlad in April 2021 is like 'OK... I got Rowdy hitting .150 behind me... he's struggling, but he's a big boy, hit 20 bombs in 2019. Big guy, it's OK, and Cavan's back there too'

And now he's like 'f***. Gurriel, Chapman, Tapia. f***. I wish I had Joe Panik back. I'm going to swing at everything and hope I knock one of the outside pitches out to right like Bo does'

It's almost like this lineup is written as a joke, this team won't finish .500 if any of the big 4 miss any significant time. Teo will be back any day but if he or Vlad or Springer or Bo have anything go wrong we'll be right back to this pile of stool again. 0 % chance of winning tonight with the pitching matchup anyway

Also Bo being terrible in front can play into it too

When s*** is clicking and guys are moving around the bases you’ll definitely be more willing to take the walk.. that’s how I see it with a star player like Vlad anyways

Well, Laika's been in a slump lately. I think it's lack of intelligent posters, posting behind him. He's the type of guy who presses when he's the only good poster in a thread.

Just PM me your SIN and full name.. I'll take care of it.

Since you're Mr. SSS himself, Bo's been 7 for 16 with 4 XBH, 2 SB's and a walk, while pounding the ball for outs to boot in his last 4 games. STFU!

What is this good state of mind stuff anyway. Don’t equate “pressing” in sports to when you’re getting really upset someone keep sniping you in COD and your mom brings fresh brownies down to the basement to make you feel better.

Yeah but I hate guys who just camp. Sometimes you need the brownie sugar fix.

By good state of mind I mean, relaxed, sharp, prepared for the at bat, not trying to do too much. If you are pressing, you are not in a good state of mind.

Might be your lamest comment ever and that's saying something.

PayPal, Venmo and CashApp exist for a reason, old man.

Finding out that you have no conviction and can't back up any of the s*** you spew might be the least surprising development of the day.

Baseball is one tough business. Highs for Katoh and then this. I hope he gets picked up and gets more MLB time.

Happy to see Katoh got his first ML hit before this. I hope we can keep him in AAA somehow. Swiss army knife type.

I mean, Vlad is at 149 wRC. You’re not going to just totally approach it like the guy needs as overhaul. You’re not going to grossly overreact to a handful of games like a message board would. But sure, at a certain point I think you could point out the higher K rates and such. bB drop off from last year… tough to fault a more aggressive approach anyway. If Vlad is willing to take the walks, I don’t think that changes how pitchers would pitch to him now. And what good is a walk when you know there’s garbo behind you

Imagine hitting cleanup when the offense is struggling and you get up to the plate with runners on base and one out and you take a look at the on deck circle and what appears to be a women’s high school softball player is batting behind you. Yeah I might be pressing for a bit in that situation too lmao
