I’m just now learning that Katoh is a person, and not the prospect projection system from like 8 years ago.

the projection system was named after him, literally him

Because everything else he does outside of line-up construction and maybe BP management is reportedly amazing. Great with communication and players love him. As per Ross Atkins and Shapiro themselves, intangibles like that matter most with manager.

So he's Cito Gaston.

Did we convince Conforto to get his vaccine? Is he incoming, because this doesn't make a lot of sense unless this true.

I think the FO just likes Katoh better

If I had to choose, I think I would sooner read about Bird than read about some guy wearing Robbie Rays old pants

Those pants are magic. Katoh will win the Cy Young this year.

My best guess is some other teams liked what they saw with Bird and told his agent they could give him a more concrete role than what the Jays had to offer and so they asked out. Shatkins would likely honor that type of request.

lol, BNS left out the most important bit of context in his original tweet:

So we were speculating for nothing. This wasn't a Blue Bird decision, it was a Greg Bird decision.

Read the second BNS tweet I linked above, lol.

Bird just signed a minor league deal with the Yankees. So much for your speculation, it was a Blue Jays decision. I tried telling you the guy was trash.

a) I'm having a hard time figuring out why you're so emotional and combative about this.

B) How does Greg Bird signing with the Yankees prove anything? In fact, this tweet actually implies the opposite of what you're insinuating:

Should have added him to the team and given him some early season reps when needed. The upside was far greater than the alternative we chose.

Bird would have stayed with us if we added him to the 40-man roster, but we chose not to do that. When we opted not to add him to the 40-man he chose to opt out of his minor league deal and sign with the Yankees. I am pretty sure this is what happened.

Seems like we just liked GK more.

How often will the Jays need a power hitter in the late innings looking for a bomb compared to needing a pinch runner, good glove with versatility?

I suspect the later 10x + more than needing a bomb.

Really is a no brainer.

You said that other teams were going to offer a more "concrete" role and that his agent asked out and Atkins "honored" that request. Complete ******** all the way around. AAA fodder for the Yankees is not a more concrete role than being AAA fodder for the Blue Jays.

Then you said that it was Greg Bird's decision to leave, not the Jays. That's not really true either. If he had made the team he wouldn't/couldn't have left but the Jays chose two stiffs in Collins and Katoh over him and were only willing to send him to Buffalo.

Then you doubled down by lol'ing me and let me tell you something my friend, no one lol's me on this board and gets away with it (unless it's an lol from one of my many hilarious jokes or board memes). Everyone knows that. I'm the sheriff of this board and not even the mods will mess with me. Greg Bird is trash and a .900 OPS against Spring Training pitchers shouldn't sway anyone's opinion on that.

Even on a minor league deal with a hope of breaking out with the team at some point, it doesn't really make sense to me why he would pick the Yankees over the Jays. The Blue Jays only have Vladdy at first, who they will likely DH like 30 times this year anyway. And they don't actually have a traditional DH.

The Yankees have Rizzo and LeMahieu at first and Stanton at DH. He has no chance of breaking through with them unless there are multiple injuries or they decide they want him up exclusively as a lefty bench-bat in pinch-hit situations. That still feels counter-intuitive since one of the Yankees' only lefty bats is at the position he plays.

Maybe he just really wanted to be a Yankee again.

Either way, regardless of how we got here, I'm glad he's out because the more I thought about it yesterday, the more I felt that the Jays didn't need a one-dimensional guy on a roster that is so flexible and needs to be able to move guys around. It doesn't really matter to me what team he picked.

It's too early in the morning for this cringe.

First of all, I didn't say other teams were going to offer him a more concrete role. I said I was guessing that was happening. Ironic choice to put words in my mouth before going off about "complete ********." I also retracted that comment when the news came out that Bird himself opted out.

Secondly, the Blue Jays still haven't made a decision on their 40th roster spot. It's possible they did tell him he wasn't making it or maybe he and his agent just read the tea leaves, but there is no real proof yet that the Jays told him they were sending him to Buffalo. What we do know is that Bird himself elected to opt-out and sign the same deal he had with the Jays elsewhere. He made a choice.

And even if we find out that the Blue Jays hated him, told him he had no chance of breaking with the club and said "it'd probably be more graceful if you just opted out before we cut you," you know what that would mean? Nothing. Because it doesn't matter. Because I'm just some random on a forum that was speculating on what happened before we had the information, which is all anyone does on a discussion forum. You absolute weirdo.

Splitting hairs

Fake news. It's going to be Katoh.

Come on bro, Greg Bird is going to play for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders lmao. If that isn't proof enough that the Jays weren't putting him on the big league roster then I don't know what is.

You were stanning Greg Bird over a .900 OPS in Spring Training so you were dead wrong about both his talent level and the way in which he was exiled to Scranton, PA. So your speculation was dead wrong. Pointing out to someone that their take was completely wrong also happens on discussion forums.

You absolute weirdo.

You can call me weird but I think you're weird for thinking Greg Bird is an MLB talent.

You know that injuries and days off happen all the time in baseball right?

When the f*** did I stan Greg Bird? I said I thought he was a lock for the roster because of the team's current composition, not because I actually give a s*** about Greg Bird. I'm one of the few people here that's actually aware of him being a regular Spring King and doing nothing to parlay that into actual regular-season success.

Find something better to do with your time, douchebag.

You went on a multiple-page tangent based entirely on the misconception that I was a Greg Bird stan and now you're sitting there awkwardly realizing you need to develop better reading comprehension skills, lmao.

Yeah, you really dunked on me.

Honestly I see what people are saying but not sure if Greg Bird is the hilll to die on. The Jays bench has been ass for a better part of a decade. Even the playoffs teams had s*** benches. It would be nice to have a guy you can bring in and go yard or slot into your lineup and not think twice about it like the Dodgers. Instead we found the American Munenori Kawasaki in Katoh or whatever the f*** his name is. I’m sure his tight pants will be good for team morale I guess.
