We have a huge bonus pool in this years draft given the loss of Semien and Ray. I feel like we’ll be able to replace someone of Hoglunds calibre this year.

Would still rather give up Hoglund than Tiedemmen.

This. Hoglund easily replaceable, in 4 months time

Espinal and Biggio platoon at 2B is another big outcome of this deal.

Other than Grichuk getting probably 400 AB, this team is perfectly constructed

Something else to consider is Chapman playin in Rogers Center instead of Oakland ...Based on Baseball Savant Park Factors. Oakland is the worst park to hit in. Toronto rated 22. So that may help Chapman as well.

Im really liking this deal. Now just sign Andrew Chafin

I think he signed with the Tigers today.

Dude already has 2 6 WAR seasons and he’s not even 29. Literally the best 3B glove in baseball and an above average bat. There’s nothing not to love here unless the cost is exorbitant.

And he makes our pitchers better.

Love the deal.

I will just put this here

Make a turn at Blue Jays Way and try not to shoot each other this time please.

Maybe replace him with Pearson then. More control and higher ceiling.

That's my best offer.

And if they don't bite, turn around and offer it to Arizona for Marte.

Gurriel sucks and we need Pearson in the bullpen (badly).

Yeah it looks great. Any criticisms about the position player construction are really just nitpicking. Like Grichuk could be upgraded, the 2B platoon could turn into a better guy, and I guess you could hope for an upgrade on Jansen (Moreno coming).

The rotation 1-5 is super good. Depth seems alright; Stripling-Pearson-Hatch-Kay-Francis seem to be good enough.

The bullpen is not amazing but is also not bad. I don't really know what to think of it. I kind of see it as Romano, then 4 or 5 serviceable guys. Fingers crossed Merryweather is good. Borucki is an expected zero from me.

He's very cheap. That moves the needle for franchises like Cleveland.

I don’t see why they would value two years of cheap Gurriel when they aren’t competing

Anyone else think the whole AA/Shapiro drama was wildly overblown??

I remember reports that Shap “chastised” AA for trading so many prospects away, yet Atkins is making similar moves. The Berrios trade was probably an overpay. Stroman trade wasn’t great. They gave up 2 very good prospects in this Chapman trade.

The biggest difference so far has been signing top-tier free agents like Springer, Semien, Ryu.

Remember all those reports that AA left because he wouldn’t have “full autonomy”??

Im starting to believe he was just pissed that Beeston got canned and hated Shapiro from the start.

I like the idea of Biggio/Espinal at 2B and Groshans and Martinez in the minors where they need to hit their way up to replace those 2 or supplant Chapman in 2024.

It's nice depth for the future.

Moreno also allows us to see if Kirk or Jansen raise their value during the season and could be traded later.

Holding onto Pearson in case Ryuor someone else goes down is good as well.

It could definitely have a similar effect as it did on Donaldson and Semien. That would be huge if Chapman became a heart of the order bat once again

They haven't really traded guys that they loved.

Martin was a depreciating prospect due to lack of power, and SWR lost velocity and was getting hammered in AA despite the swing and miss. Both of those guys dropped on prospect rankings after the season concluded.

Kevin Smith is only highly ranked on Keith Law's list as of now.

Hogland is the 1st guy of note they've traded and he's coming off an injury and is more control over stuff, at least right now.

AA would have traded Vlad and Bo for Yelich.

He likely would have traded Pearson and others by now as well.

Have always thought that

Beeston gave him lots of leeway

AA didn't want to work under Shapiro

Difference here is we actually have prospect depth now. Literally made the most of all our 1st round picks since they took over except Warmoth.

He wasn't pissed Beeston was canned, he was pissed he didn't get the President job.

Mmm yeah maybe that’s it too. I think maybe his ego was a bit inflated after 2015

I really hope Chapman gets back to hitting balls in the strike zone. Really that's his only problem the past 2 seasons. Walk rate still good, power still good, still swings at the right pitches and doesnt swing at the bad ones... but he's been swinging and missing strikes a lot more since the hip issues.

Jays have had success lately helping players make more contact and reduce their K%....let's hope that trend continues!

True, but they guys they've helped, the reasons havent been injury related. It's entirely possible that Chapman won't be able to swing the same way anymore. At worst though, he's still valuable based on his D, but i'd definitely love to get the real Chapman offensive powerhouse back also.

If Grichuk gets 400+ at-bats again I think bad things occurred and the Blue Jays didn’t make the playoffs. I can’t picture it.

#BlueJays GM Ross Atkins on Chapman trade: "I think one of the highlights of my day was just seeing some of the looks on the faces in our clubhouse, just how excited our team is to be adding someone of that calibre, with his reputation. Obviously a very good fit for us."

Projections have him at that amount

4th of and late inning RP are the team ‘weaknesses’ right now

Not really weaknesses, just if any more significant moves are made, it will be in these areas

I agree i think if we can find 1 more late inning RP i would be more comfortable..... I am scared for our pen i think it is ok (Mayza figured it out in the last half, Cimber is good, Romano took a big step last year, Garcia should be ok, Richards was decent, who knows what happens with Phelps).

But one late inning pitcher would solidify things though
