G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Another boring return by the A’s Beane seems to favour prospect volume
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Two. Already an extension candidate
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 I hope you guys know the return is going to be way more significant than any of you can imagine. 1) It always is 2) They're trying to save face after missing out on Freeman 3) It's the Toronto surplus charge Worst take of the thread? It's close, with a few other contenders
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 How is that an overpay? We clearly won that trade even if Chapman doesn't return to his 2018-2019 form. Beane sure loves trading good third basemen to the Blue Jays doesn't he?
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Question for the uninformed. Does this help in any way the players exposed for the rule 5 draft if that draft is still happening? I kept thinking that we were going to lose Kevin Smith if we didn't take him north to start the season as an example. As already answered, Rule 5 was cancelled this year, but to add to that, Kevin Smith wasn't exposed to the rule 5 draft. It's only players who aren't on the 40 man roster (which he was) and who have a certain amount of playing time (depending on if they were a high school, or college draftee, or IFA). Basically the only people who are ever exposed in the rule 5 are players that the vast majority of fans have never heard of, unless they're the types who dig through prospect lists. (We did have 2 guys who would have been exposed this season who were at least interesting...)
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Ramirez trade looks like what.. Moreno, Groshans +? Pearson? That's not worth it IMO. I think the most I would do is Kirk + Groshans + some lower tier guys like Kloffenstein + Leo Jimenez.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Ngl If we traded for Ramirez I Would literally die. It kinda makes sense at this point. If there's a Ramirez trade to be had and he's okay plying 2b... may as well pull the trigger and just attempt to restock the farm over the next 2 years.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Already an extension candidate Definitely, but will depend on how Groshans/Moreno/Martinez develop this year I'd suspect.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 This team is loaded...we eating boys, pennant here we come Best team in the AL East on paper right now Best offense Best starting rotation Middle of the road bullpen needs a little more work
bzapple Verified Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Beane seems to favour prospect volume Volume and also MLB ready pieces (for the most part). Even the A's are well known for trading their stars once they get expensive, I respect that they never do a complete teardown followed by several years of tanking. Most likely the A's are going to be mediocre but not horrible for the next couple years and then they'll be back in the contending picture once some prospects emerge and they find some of their usual diamond in the rough players like Laureano or Donaldson.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Best team in the AL East on paper right now Best offense Best starting rotation Middle of the road bullpen needs an upgrade I'm getting a shatkins tattoo....who is with me
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Yeah it makes sense. Even if Hoglund reaches MLB it's likely he's closer to a middle of the rotation guy than a SP1. And those guys are readily available on free agency every offseason. I would only really balk at trading Shane Baz types or someone like pre-debut Manoah who was major league ready. Hoglund was a good prospect to have but not untradeable by any means. Agreed King. He hasn’t even thrown a pro pitch yet. Just like Austin Martin sometimes these guys are most valuable to you in trade, not 5 years down the road. There’s a reason teams like the Dodgers develop prospects and trade them as currency. That’s the newest market inefficiency
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Definitely, but will depend on how Groshans/Moreno/Martinez develop this year I'd suspect. Agents: Boras Corporation

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 I love this trade It was the cleanest way to fill our biggest need without adding massively to the payroll Proespect cost perfectly reasonable
godJPA Verified Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Just your typical cliché sport athlete interview.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 I don't mean to be hyperbolic, but this team with Ramirez would have a shot at 105+ win territory with some luck and pitching health. The team as is could hit 105 wins with luck and pitching health. Ramirez would put them into 110+ territory
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Ramirez trade looks like what.. Moreno, Groshans +? Pearson? Yeah it has to have Moreno + other good pieces. If there is a way to do it without Moreno it probably is Groshans, Pearson, and Orelvis.
King Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 It's like one of those LoD trades where you pull off trading 4 middling assets for an above average to elite player. A MikeM special.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Yeah it has to have Moreno + other good pieces. If there is a way to do it without Moreno it probably is Groshans, Pearson, and Orelvis. Yup that’s probably what it takes to keep Moreno Is it worth it? Maybe if you can extend Chapman.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 I am friggin so happy. There were so many game changing errors at 3B last year and now we have a stud there. On top, there's hope you can get his bat back to normal after enough time to heal from hip surgery, there's no reason not to LOVE this deal. Yeah as much as I’m disappointed in not getting a sexy bat (to this point), you definitely can’t argue the team is a few wins better than last year with the move. Not only the errors but missed plays there that changed games
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Yeah it has to have Moreno + other good pieces. If there is a way to do it without Moreno it probably is Groshans, Pearson, and Orelvis. Biggio, Kirk, Gurriel & Groshans You think that does it? Then you sign Conforto to replace Gurriel.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Biggio, Kirk, Gurriel & Groshans You think that does it? Then you sign Conforto to replace Gurriel. I don’t think two years of Gurriel moves the needle that much
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 I don’t think two years of Gurriel moves the needle that much Maybe replace him with Pearson then. More control and higher ceiling. That's my best offer. And if they don't bite, turn around and offer it to Arizona for Marte.
jerb Verified Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Scott Mitchell @ScottyMitchTSN Charlie Montoyo is obviously beaming about adding Matt Chapman. Says he and Manny Machado are the best 3B defenders he’s seen. I asked him about how this helps Bo Bichette with positioning and he noted it could help them move the left side around a bit differently. #BlueJays
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 I don’t think two years of Gurriel moves the needle that much He's very cheap. That moves the needle for franchises like Cleveland.
BCZ Verified Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 8/10 on creepiness scale of Chapman's stache.
