So... is Vladdy a 3B then? Or are we going to have an ill-advised DH/1B platoon?

 

FWIW, Yesterday Vladdy was working out at 3rd, Hazel and Shi were laughing saying the coaches were yelling to the media, "Dont read to much into this we want to keep him fresh there"

Well there’s the Left-Handed slugger we covet. Not the one I expected but I can’t complain. Vlad switching positions again is not my favourite option though. I really hope hes not DHing every day.

 

He's the slugger that we deserve, but not the one we need right now.

It makes way more sense to aquire a 3B of course

 

That lineup would make up for some subpar defense. I guess I worry about the middle If defense though on top of it. Yeah. It's just a somewhat messy infield if it's 1B Freeman, 2B Biggio, SS Bichette, 3B Vlad, utility If Espinal

I think it's a pretty shrewd move from a WAR accumulation standpoint. Defense seems to be a concern but Atkins headfaking and going all in on offense by adding Freeman accumulates so much more WAR for this team than anything else we could realistically do, short of trading for J-Ram.

 

Adding Freeman's 4.5 WAR to first and then kicking Vlad's 6 WAR over to third (does his WAR drop much from this?) just maximizes the amount of talent we have on the roster. The defense will suck but the lineup is just so much better and with the DH spot still there we can still limit Vlad's games at 3B some. We could consider someone like Matt Chapman but he's not as good as Freeman and we'd have to give up assets.

 

Now Freeman takes 6 years like many are saying this makes less sense, but I could see the Jays trying to get Freeman to bite on a Bauer-type of contract which would be perfect.

Give him 6 years, front load it, then an opt out aftger the front loaded portion.

 

Something like 6 years 180, but make the first 3 years ... 37 million (just picking a number) with an optout after 3 - leaving 3/69 left ...... or first 2 years 40 million each, leaving 4/100 left. If he's still raking, he likely opts out and the Jays then got the best remaining years out of him anyways.

Vladdy is a generational superstar, they’re not going to be making him DH more than the occasional spot. If FF comes, he’s going to 3b

In order to beat the Dodgers you have to become the Dodgers I guess. Maybe Ted is just trying to piss off his sisters. I'm spending a s*** ton on the Jays and there's nothing you two or Mom or anyone can do about it.
