Predicting the market 3 years from now is a fools game. If MLB went to roto umps the catcher position will change considerably. It is a fine deal but again all the risk is on Atlanta. Not enough upside for me

You can look at historical data, trends, and know that if X type of player is getting X amount of dollars in 2022, the chances of the same X getting equal or less in three years is very low. Baseball salaries have not historically trended downward.

Rich Hill signed with the Pirates, 1 year at $8 million.

There has to be some kind of handshake during the CBA process that they would spend some of the welfare money

I guess he's a trade deadline candidate if he pitches well in the first half. A move back to the NL should help and he can be dominant when healthy, though his best days are behind him now. Don't think we see the Rich Hill when he was with the Dodgers. He did post a 3.92 FIP and 1.8 WAR last season so meh he wasn't that bad.

Gross. I'd rather Kluber for the extra 2 Million.

Yeah agreed for durability purposes especially. He would have been a nice No. 5 here in Toronto, though it's not the end of the world. Still some solid arms available and as we get closer to ST, maybe prices on those arms start to go down if they remain unsigned.

Dick Mountain keeps on riding.

Texas has Degrom and like 8 viable #3-4 SP, either now or coming up

Rangers success in 2023 will heavily rely on deGrom making 30 starts. If he doesn't, it's likely another lost season.

Idk. Depends what offense can do. There’s upside

So I did some random reading/watching about that ridiculous 1884 season from Old Hoss Radbourn and figured that he had to be #1 single season highest WAR of all time. Turns out he was #2:

I just had a laugh over the mugshots and how one of these things is not like the rest (for multiple reasons).

Then I had to think how absolutely ridiculous that 1985 Gooden season had to have been that the only comparables are Ruth and pitchers that threw 600 innings in a year. He blows Ohtani away, blows Bonds away. The only one that comes close that was recent enough for most of us to witness it was Clemens when he was a Jay. How the hell did this dude not make it into the HOF after that season at age 20? I know how people talk about Bellinger or the tragedy around Jose Fernandez and wasted opportunity but I don't think we will ever see a flame out on the level of Dwight Gooden again.

Yeah agreed. If both Seager and Semien return to their old form, along with some of their young bats continuing to take a step forward. Still their success will ride on deGrom and their other starters. They have some nice rotation depth, though durability and health are a concern especially with deGrom and Heaney.

I love learning about those old old timers from the dead ball era. My interest was piqued in them after finally watching the Ken Burns documentary.

Both the Rangers and Angels look significantly better than last year. Unfortunately for them they will be battling each other for third place in the division

How did Gooden not make the Hall? It’s called cocaine.

Yeah I like what the Angels have done a lot. It was a responsible offseason that netted them a SP and some much needed depth.

I count 4

Of my head head Gray, Heaney, Perez, Odorizzi, and Dunning. The latter are passable 4s. Then they have guys on the cusp. I didn’t pimp it, just said they’ll have solid depth. Jays after 4 are shaky. Not really counting RT and such as he’s not knocking on the door

We’ll see how all those extensions turn out. Should have plenty of good outcomes but some of them will turn out to be duds. Olson extension not looking so hot for example.

Yeah Olson's isn't looking that hot. Lets see if Acuna can return to his MVP caliber form. Riley should be alright but not completely sold on him. I love Strider but arms are so fragile.

Overall though he did the right thing and locked up the Braves core pieces for the long term at very reasonable team friendly contracts.

Heaney, Eovaldi, Gray, Perez.

Odorizzi meh. Dunning has some upside and could be included.

I’ve always sought Odorizzi as a depth SP in fantasy so I could have a little bias but lifetime ERA of 4 and FIP only slightly higher. He’s better than a number 5 I think when he’s healthy, but seems like the latter is a tall order

The other guys were prospects but I didn’t realize how bad Cole Winn was. Thought he was still solid. Leiter I thought would in the mix if he pitches better. Owen White is the other guy

If dunning or Odorizzi are a 3/4 on your team you’re going to have a real bad time

Marlins acquire another cute slap hitting infielder. That woman just cannot help herself can she?

Pretty good deal actually. Segura is likely to be a 2-3 WAR player over a full season.

Yeah she likes to collect all kinds of slap hitting infielders. From the worthless (Joe Panik) to the serviceable (Wendle) to the ones that are actually good (Segura). She even likes slap hitting prospects (the one we traded to her I can't remember his name).
