Ehjays Verified Member Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 I think I pass on Reynolds if it's Tiedemann +. I don't trust that Reynolds is more than a 3-3.5 win OF anymore. No chance I trade RT for anyone ...I know he's only a prospect, I know Reynolds is very good, and I know Batter> pitcher but we need to keep our young guys and it starts with him on my no trade list.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 I agree. Also, the Blue Jays OF situation is not really that terrible. I think they will be at least as productive as 2022. Defense is much better Offense is worse Springer being healthy is, as always, the main variable

Okay, then we’re not getting Bryan Reynolds lol. Orelvis isn’t highly valued at all in the industry and Reynolds projects for 4 WAR and has three cheap years of control, you’re not gonna get him for scraps.

Except if you Springer gets hurt or KK has issues from his hip replacement etc... You have an OF of LGR, KK, Whitt, or Biggio... Or some mix of that... *Not that scary... to other teams, scary for us...

Were you asleep when we traded for JD? and then again when we traded for Chapman? Never say never.

Take the best OFer out of most (all?) lineups and suddenly the team doesn't look so strong. The fact we have Merrifield, Biggio and potentially Moreno who could fill in is actually a strength. I also fully expect we'll be adding a true 4th OFer before the offseason is complete.

Sorrow Verified Member Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 The biggest issue I have with Reynolds (and this goes for Vlad as well) is their projections are taking the 6+ win season into account and skewing high. That looks like an outlier for Reynolds (in my opinion), Reynolds is going to be 28 and there's a chance he has some physical decline going on. I'd be open to trading for him at a 4 win valuation but I feel like the ask if it is Tiedemann plus is going to be more of a 6 win player and what I see is not that. Vlad we saw this year is basically the Vlad from August on in 21 as well. His slug dropped .120 points when we stopped playing in MiLB stadiums and he had a 140 wRC+. I wouldn't be giving Vlad a 300M deal based on the last 1.5 seasons of play (a lot of the casual fanbase thinks this is a wonderful idea).
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Guy's, Reynolds' worth far more than you realize, for the very reasons Org said. He's really good, lol.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 I dont think his SLG is in any way reflective of playing in MiLB parks or MLB parks, his SLG sucks when he's beating balls into the ground vs getting them in the air.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Tiedemann is a 20 year old pitching prospect with 11 innings higher than A-Ball. Reynolds projects for 4 WAR and has 3 years of control left. In a vacuum I'd do that deal all day every day, THRICE* on Sundays. The Pirates would probably want Tiedemann+ and they'd be justified in seeking that. I just don't think it's sustainable to be signing big ticket FAs to fill the rotation every offseason so I'd rather the Jays try and patch the OF with a trade of a C or with a bargain FA signing. We've got to start building up some SP depth at some point. *I'm using the word "thrice" again because it was such a hit last time I did it.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Plus it's the Pirates I feel like they are pretty stingy with their trades though. They suck but it's not because they are easy to trade rape.

Tiedemann gets you to about half of what they expect back, I'll pass, for that reason alone.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 If Pittsburgh does a stupid and Oaklands away Reynolds the equivalent deal to Chapman/Donaldson would be something like... 45 FV hoglund 3rd ranked = Barger 40 FV smith 10th ranked = Macko 40 FV logue 16th ranked = Juenger 35+ FV snead 26th ranked = Pinto This assumes Toronto is resistant to adding Tiedemann or Barriera and Pitt scoffs at Orelvis as piece #1 but is in love with Barger for whatever f***ing reason lol.

But we absolutely do not need Bryan Reynolds if he's going to cost Tiedemann. Three years ago you probably wouldn’t trade Nate for just about anyone. If you can get an AS-level mlb player for 3 years on the cheap, it’s worth considering most guys. BR seems to have a few different outcomes though. I don’t know enough to have an opinion
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 I feel like they are pretty stingy with their trades though. They suck but it's not because they are easy to trade rape. Tell that to the Rays and the Chris Archer trade.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Tell that to the Rays and the Chris Archer trade. They got Cherington in 2019 a year after the Archer trade. Cherington was a decent GM in Boston and was apparently phenomenal in Toronto as the AGM.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Tell that to the Rays and the Chris Archer trade. Whole different FO! Got a keep up. The Pirates FO is one of the reasons the Jays became good.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Tell that to the Rays and the Chris Archer trade. Different FO man, I don't know why I have to keep telling you this. The biggest problem in Pittsburgh is their owner.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 The outfield is fine as is. We need SPs more than we need OFs. We have 1 outfielder signed past 2023, we have 4 rotation spots locked for the next several years. We can survive without another OF acquisition this year but absolutely need 2 new guys once 2024 rolls around. That being said im still not sure i’d give up Tiedeman for Reynolds… idk maybe. We said the same s*** about Pearson a couple years back. Prospects are prospects.

I don’t know enough to have an opinion What about Manoah? Should we have traded Manoah for an OF who did not crack 3 WAR in 600+ PA last season? Reynolds produced at an all-star level two years ago. Let's not ignore the 3 other seasons, including the last one, where he was merely above average. Edited December 22, 2022 by Captain_Obvious
