Also realizing this is the second time AA has f***ed the Athletics HARD in a trade.

First Donaldson now Murphy.

Yankees making their formal offer for Rodon

... Or something

He might be a land mine for them so I hope they go for it. 7 years 200 mil or something crazy.*

*But if the Jays sign him I reserve the right to change my mind.

Imagine if out of nowhere the Jays signed Rodon to a 7 year contract for 210 million and did what Atlanta did when they had the best rotation and still went out and signed Greg Maddux to a large deal!!!

What a f***ing statement that would be to the rest of the 29 other MLB teams including the Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Padres.... The Blue Jays.... "Lets....Play.... Ball"!!!!

Baseball Trade Values is not perfect. That being said, the A's f***ed up even if the young players they get all become stars. They could have asked for more.

I know but Sean Murphy is probably the 4th best Catcher in baseball (behind Kirk, Moreno and Jansen in that order) and the A's didn't even get a single Top 100 prospect. And Murphy has 3 years of control left too. Garbage franchise.

Seriously though, how does the A's go from asking the Cards for Nootbaar, Donovan and Graceffo to that clusterf***??? lmao Edited by Spanky99

I know you meant these 3 but yes the report stated the A's were asking for outfielder Lars Nootbaar, utility man Brendan Donovan and top pitching prospect Gordon Graceffo. That report had to be ********. Thats the same report that mentioned Jays with Nootbar or Helsley

Yeah, for Jansen. Murphy has a year more of control and is far more safe and valuable than, Jano. Also, I think I mentioned that report had to be BS, hahaha! Oh yeah, Donovan, not Varsho. Derp. Still, after asking for that they move on to that cripe, Term's correct, the A's are dumn.

Yeah here was my comment when I saw the return... :P

That's a real interesting trade. Those rumours of Oakland's ask on Murphy had to be ********, I think.

AA sweet talked the s*** outta them.

Actually, didn’t they get more of a haul in the Olson trade??? I just don’t understand why the Brewers were involved in this trade at all.

Yeah it could have been a leak from Cards people. Little bit of propaganda before they closed the deal on Contreras.

The Brewers come out like bandits, why the f*** didn't the A's take back Contreras? lol, so dumn.

Astros in talks for Varsho. Fuuuuuck. If Arizona moves him and he doesn’t come to us, I will be pissssed!

Astros will acquire Varsho and then flip him immediately to us for Danny J. Essentially a 3way.

It seems like William Contreras was the best centrepiece the A's could get, but they didn't want him because they have a couple of catchers in the pipeline.

So they called around.

Esteury Ruiz is really the lynchpin of the entire trade. I think he's a s***** slap hitter. But he's super divisive. There are people who think he is a blue chip prospect.

Ruiz is the Kevin Smith / Brett Lawrie of this deal for Oakland; the major league ready position player who they think can be a two way difference maker. Both of the Chapman and Donaldson trades flopped for Oakland largely on the failings of Lawrie and Smith (Hoglund could still salvage the Chapman deal...)

If Ruiz flops, this Murphy trade will probably be awful in hindsight. Obviously the A's also got three live arms, but they all have some warts. Maybe one of the arms turns into a mid rotation SP or a bullpen stud and then the thing looks okay in three years even if Ruiz is replacement level.

Tarnok, Salinas and Muller could end up something, but that return is barf.

Hahaha... they must've, though.

Or maybe not call them. Just looked at their team, holy pile of s***. Laureano maybe, but he's a righty bat and Gurriel might be better anyway.

Jays need to talk to the A's more

Would have been nice if the A's had a good young left handed hitting CF with a few years of control left. Could have gotten him for Otto Lopez, Hayden Juenger, and Mitch White rather than signing Kiermaier.

Oakland has two players that Steamer projects for more than 2 fWAR. Zero players projected for 3+. Absolutely embarrassing org.

Rays DFA Feyereisen

This is literally like the #LoD when you just have too many decent relievers and can't find a trade so you drop someone

He had surgery and is out until late summer at the earliest but he also has years of cheap control left and was quite good... would like this guy.

They'll probably be back in the playoffs in 2 years. In their 2014/15 trades they got Semien, Basset, Sean Manaea, and built the 2018-2021 winning team.

Even though they screwed up the Donaldson trade the process over that year worked as they got a playoff team again quickly.

So if they follow the usual pattern 2023 and 24 will be bad, the geniuses on this board will say how their process sucks, then they'll make the playoffs in 2025 with a bunch of surprises.

Oakland might have still been better than most teams at some things 8 years ago - Beane was a competent GM and they might have still had an information edge on most teams. Both of those advantages might be gone now. Almost everyone they acquired last offseason saw their value plummet in 2022.

Part of the Willy Adames trade too. That’s gotta sting

Adames kinda puts a chink in their armor and goes to show they’ve underperformed developing hitters. Even after his Bonds impression in the playoffs, RA has been disappointing with the bat for the most part. Wander will get going to be something but jury is out if one of the best hitters in baseball

I’ve posted on how bad all their 1st round and comp round draft picks for hitters have gone

If they were 1/4 as good as developing hitters as pitchers and defense, it would probably be a Patriots dynasty going.

The only thing they do better than most or any other teams is cycle through players aggressively, while properly evaluating them at the major league level.

So they will have guys like Seth Brown and Cole Irvin turn into 2 win players out of nowhere. That's a skill. It's not captured by prospect rankings or team projections.

Chris Bassitt is one great example. Wasn't Mark Canha a rule 5 pick?

Other than that which you might call "Dumpster Diving Skill" I am really not sure what else they do well anymore.

IIRC the situation with Adames was tough because he was open about not being able to see well at the Trop. His splits back that up: in his time with TB he had a 77 wRC+ at home and a 103 on the road.

Seems like it was a mistake to move Adames because they had Wander.

Yes I was gonna say this too. It’s documented he had difficulty seeing in that dump
